Feliz Navidad and Merry Christmas from beautiful Montezuma, Costa Rica! Today, a local tour guide named Mario, provides 3 unique experiences for us. A night trip to see the bioluminescence in Ballena Bay, a release of baby sea turtles, and a wonderful evening with a local woman who teaches us how to make traditional Costa Rican corn tortillas. We hope you enjoy and subscribe to follow along on our journey around the world. Safe travels and blessings to you and your family, John and Bev

L-o-n-g ago husband and I kayaked in Desolation Sound in Canada, on the inside of Vancouver Island. There was the glowing plankton in the water there, when we kayaked at night. It is indeed a thrilling, wondrous sight.

I agree with Julia that this may be one of your best videos yet! It’s more than a travel vlog of the Nicoya Peninsula. It’s a celebration of that all-inclusive and hard-to-translate “pura vida”. You guys do capture “pure life.” From the ephemeral heart in the sand to the explanation of the low stress tico lifestyle, you show us important lessons. The beautiful bioluminescence (which evaded your technology and growing skill to capture!) to the delicacy of life seen in the baby turtle release. My favorite sequence was the tortilla lesson. Sometimes something so “simple” is subtly complex! John, you seem to have the gift of the pat-pat. (Maybe even crossover potential with bongos! Lol). From beginning to end, this was an artfully crafted video. Great editing, Bev.

I loved that you had a local cooking lesson! Those are the best because food and knowing how it's prepared locally is such a fabulous way to get to know and appreciate a culture. A skill that will last a lifetime! Or at least create a MUCH greater appreciation for homemade tortillas!!

Looks like it was a wonderful experience! I would love if you posted the recipe. She explained really well. You both looked like pros.
@RetirementTravelers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. We don’t really have a recipe. It was just white corn meal and water. It appears that the key is the right consistency and keep adding a little water as you go. The next hurdle is the proper forming (notice that she used wax paper and turned the tortilla). The next trick is a HOT grill. The last trick was to cover up the tortilla after cooking in a dish towel and place inside a plastic bag. She mentioned that several times as very important. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas, John and Bev

Hello! New subscriber here! 🤗 Love your channel. My significant other and I travel internationally a lot also (we are in our late 20s, but your way of life is my retirement goal!). I wanted to ask: What did you all think of the town of Montezuma? We are planning a trip to Costa Rica and looking into where to go. It will be the shortest trip we have ever taken ( just 6 days, 5 nights.) We have a trip planned in 22 days to go back to England (yes I am counting it down haha), a trip to Hawaii in September, then Costa Rica in December, and then France in the Springtime. Is Montezuma convenient in terms of there being tours on sale in the town? How far was the bioluminescent bay from Montezuma? We are not party people, so we aren’t interested in crazy nightlife or anything like that, we are just looking for a town with easy access to the water and waterfalls/hills, etc... thank you in advance for your time! Like I said, I love your channel. 🤗

Thanks so much for following along. Montezuma is an interesting little town that is a bit remote. Enjoyable ferry ride from San Jose. Check out the description of the video and you will find Mario’s email. He is a great young guide who can help you with anything in the area. He took us to see the bioluminescence (about 30 minute drive from Montezuma). Hope this helps. John and Bev PS Don’t rule out Guatemala for another cool experience. Check out our Lake Atitlan video. What a cool place!
