Looking at this video brought tears to my eyes. My Dad was a Montford Point Marine (USMC 1944-1950). Long before this video, he and I talked many times about his years as a Marine Corps Corporal. Shortly after his death in 2004, I acquired a copy of his service record. Amazing .. his memory was soo good. All of his assignments and tours that we talked about during his military years were in his service record. I am so blessed to have had him all of my life and he was indeed ... once a Marine - always a Marine!! He was so proud of me, his Navy Commander daughter. Thank you Dad. Yes, Dad is a recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal!

@@emmetts1899 , forgive me for the delay … TWO-year delay … in replying to your inquiry about how I was able to get my Dad the Congressional Gold Medal. By now, I really hope that you were successful in getting the Medal for your father. I live in Maryland and was put in touch with the local chapter of National Montford Point Marine Association of Washington, DC Chapter Six (DC-6). The process was easy to follow. The Chapter even had a celebration for my Dad and other families, that received the Medal. We had the honor to recognize a WWII Montford Point Marine, whose family brought him to the event. As mentioned in my original post, my father did not talk about the racism that he experienced, but he always talked, with utmost pride, about being a Marine. During our "fireside chats", I heard much, but it did not impact me until after his death and I ordered a copy of his service record. It was like, WOW! Dad was a Munitions Worker assigned to the 8th Marine Ammunition Co. His recollect was spot on!

These true Black Warriors of the Marine Corps are my real heroes, fight for equality and against all enemies home and abroad back then, as I as patriotic black male, I'm so proud of them and driven by them to do same thing as too. It's a shame that there is no movie out there that would bring their story to life. If I was both a veteran and a author, it would be my greatest mission in life.

Spike Lee listen up and please consider creating a movie on the Montford Point Marines because many of them will someday leave this earth to stay in their well-deserved heavenly home. Just a thought and suggestion only because you care, and so do I when it comes to telling the story right.

They always comment how professional, determined and how damn proud everyone should be of these marines. They were proud to serve with serve marines durning ww2, Korea and Vietnam. They called them. As late as 1963 while I was assigned to H and S Co. Third Battalion First Marines at Camp Schwab, Okinawa, our 106 mm Recoilless Rifle Platoon was billeted with the Flamethrower Platoon. We spend 14 months together in southeast Asia. The life expectancy of a flamethrower operator charging up a beach with 70 pounds of jellied gasoline on his back was known to be a historically short time. Every single member of that expendable outfit was black. We were teenaged and stupid, but we knew what it meant. Racism found a way to have its way.

It makes my resolve greater to keep informing people, especially those of us that feel as though we have arrived. These men could not vote, could not eat in restaurants could not try on clothing. Why would God Bless this systemically racist society. As a side note: after George Floyd murder the Pastor of our mixed church announced that 100 churches were preaching the same sermon; That God Ordained Authority. The same message preached in the churches on Plantations, not a sermon against murder or abuse of authority....but that Policeman had God's authority in their corner. What do you call those that fought for this country with NO country to claim them. Nothing as changed as of 2023.
