My father always said when selling a house that one should not be too greedy and should leave something for the next owner by which he meant to leave them some equity for when they are selling on. Don’t think many people think of it nowadays.

Looking forward to getting some of that asparagus! And we should be prepared to regard it as a luxury, pay for it and eat it rarely; it appalls me that in some parts of the world it's just another vegetable and they expect it all the year round and cheap to boot. Good news about the compensation from EDF.

Hi Jane, I love watching your shopping hauls and seeing your savings. Here in Australia, our supermarkets also have reward programs on an app. Last year I really tried to collect as many points as I could during the year by buying the nominated specials. For example, they occasionally give a few thousand points if you spend over a certain amount 2 weeks in a row. When they have this offer, we stock up on non-perishables to collect the huge points. We chose to save up our points to use at Christmas and I ended up having points worth $390.00 (about 235 Euros)!! We then did a huge Christmas shop with our 'free' money! So far this year I have $90.00 saved up.

I forgot it was Easter. I’ll probably be having curry for lunch because of it. Not religious so I shouldn’t be bothered really but I do like to have a family dinner every now and then so Easter usually means some time off for the workers in the house so make an effort. Oh well.

That's a great price for lamb. Today's ad in the central USA is 4.99/lb. The best price I have found it this year is 4.00/lb. I had the butcher slice the legs up into chunks so I can make stews easy. When you announce each price, It seems like it's cheaper there until you do the actual conversions to dollars. It's always good to see what other's are doing with the rising cost of living.

I bought 4 new york strips and they were 9.98 a lb. So I believe that would be almost $20 a lb kilo in france. I normally would never ever buy that but it was for an anniversary dinner. Still much cheaper then goingbout to dinner. We will get 4 meals out of this package. Our wedding anniversary and my husbands birthday are the same. He has done so well with eating less meat and I had saved for this meal over the past 4 months. It still gave me a chill to pay that amount.

The smoked bacon lardons look delicious I do a great pasta dish with them all you need for 2 people is 1 pack of them dry fried ,couple cloves garlic crushed, half a tub of crème fraiche ,2 teaspoons Dijon mustard. Cook some spaghetti . Mix all the sauce bits together add in some of the pasta water till it makes a coating sauce taste it you might need some extra mustard! Re heat gently .Add the pasta to the sauce mix in . Serve with some crusty bread . Happy Easter 🌷🌷

Bonjour from Quebec. I just love your haul videos. As you go through the items and the prices, I compare in my head the prices here in Quebec, with the exchange rate. Some items seem less expensive here and others not. For exemple, crème fraîche is easily $10.00 - $12,00 CAD a container here. I love creme fraîche, but at the price they are now selling it, I buy cream cheese and dilute with a bit of fresh cream. Not the same, but close enough;).PLease continue to share; it helps us all knowing that we're in the same boat and that there are options if one looks close enough.

What a great haul Jane and you have an awful lot for your money! (I'd expect no less of you..... 😊👍). The lamb legs especially look great and thats such a lot of lamb for future use. It's always such a buzz to see a haul from a French supermarket. Like you we just got the first of the local asparagus for the season and, although you can get it here in UK for most of the year, as you'd know, I wouldn't thank you for it. We're lucky to have a lovely little independent greengrocer whose prices are reasonable but I did baulk at the first of the Jersey Royal new potatoes which are currently retailing (for the foolish) at £4 per kilo! They will drop in price as soon as they are more readily available for the season. A very enjoyable video and a happy Easter to you both.

It's not cheap here. The average French worker takes home 1800€ a month.

Great video. I just got an email from my local supermarket chain and they’re adding the option of cash off purchases (previously had been points towards certain rewards items, such as cans of veggies). I was happy to see that!

In America. My grocery store, Krogers have an app that lets you put coupons on your shopper card and there's also items you can get cash off too.

😂😂 I want to come to your house to eat! Your food looks fantastic! And my goodness, I wish I had the prices that you had for New York strips. They are pretty much off our menu these days for us in the US... beef has skyrocketed😮

Mayonnaise in the US is exorbitant. It has ranged from $3.99 to $8.99. It went on sale recently for $2.99.

Great shopping haul Jane and Mike. That sirloin steak was a great price. I was a little shocked at the price of cucumbers in france, I thought 89p was expensive 😅. You did a really good shop on your fruit and veg, a lot of variety. May I ask what is the cashback app you use please? I'm wondering if I can get it in the UK. Kind regards Angeline ❤️ xx 🇬🇧

In uk the equvilent would be asda. Dont think other supermarkets do cash back.most of them do points, the only other way you could do it is with some banks etc do cashback cards ie santander.

Love this and thank you so much! I enjoy comparing prices with California! Do you know some prices are exactly the same-which I didn't expect, and of course most here are so much higher. We also pay so much more if we want organic, but I understand in much of Europe they don't use the chemicals we use here so no need for buying organic. Is that true where you live?

Your saving sistem is ingenious!! We spent holidays in France and I had the feeling that food over there is more expensive than in Germany, where we live. One of us is vegetarian, the other is flexitarian so we buy mainly produce, dairy, fruits and sometimes chicken/fish. We don't eat convenience food, frozen pizzas, french fries etc. Even though we make pasta sauces, pizza from scratch and sometimes our own bread and we spend an average of EUR 500 monthly in food + cleaning stuff. I am looking for ways to reduce our expenses. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Would it be cheaper to buy canned fish , mashed with a fork , add either or both low fat mayonnaise and a little low fat cream cheese , mashed well together instead of buying processed meats with a high salt content or using 0% fromage blanc instead of mayo and cream cheese. Canned fish can be used as a thick spread if only tiny amount of mayo and cream cheese is used or as a dip using a good tablespoon of mayonaise and cream cheese or fromage blanc with veg sticks . Feel free to add spices . I have made with canned tuna, sprats or small sardines and mackerel so far.
