Thanks lots. Wish I had you on yt back in 71 when I started playing. Saw Montrose in 73. Had a silver guitar with a built in theremin for "Space Station #5". You don't find those everywhere. An American guitarist that made me go, "what the hell is this ?".

I really do like your style Shawn -- just the right amount of discussion about what is going on and great tone on the guitar. I think you get how to share the breakdown efficiently and realize that many of us have guitars in hand as we watch and don't need a lot of note by note hand holding. There's a ton of rock instruction on yt and your one of the best. Of course, once you get the main riff of many of these Montrose classics, you get paid in spades with knowing how to play the best rock tunes ever written.

Montrose discovered Sammy Hagar who went on to a great solo career as well as singing for Van Halen for awhile. The first 2 Montrose albums feature Sammy on vocals. I am a huge Montrose fan. The other band who had an impact from that time period is UFO with Michael Schenker on guitar. Check them out on KZbin.

Shawn, just stumbled on your channel. As a connoisseur of guitar instruction videos, yours are quite good. Doing stuff like Montrose and from the first Rush album is awesome and stuff many don't cover.

+Scott R Yeah Boyeee, Rockin' the good stuff. I have been teaching many years and try my best to explain it how it really goes. So many channels do not tell it like the artist plays it so I want to stay true to the source. Thanks for watching Scott. Now go practice until your fingers hurt and then practice some more.

I tried to learn it and it has a be-bop beat that is amazing. I will try to get back to it someday.

Back in the day, Montrose's first two albums were fantastic especially with Sammy Hagar's chops which made them both famous. I have a request but right off the top of my head , I'm only thinking Into the fire. I'll get back to you on that and I love your lessons and well taught. Thanks 😊

Great, no nonsense lesson, thank you. P.S. Did you ever post the solo lesson? Would love to try and have a go at that! Can't currently find any tabs that are even in the vicinity!
@ShawnStaplesFreeGuitarLessons6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I started that one and it is not easy. But since you brought it up it is time I start adding more solos. I am finishing UFO's Too Hot to Handle solo right now (Michael Scenker) but I will get to the solo of the Montrose song soon. Also we will start giving one guitar away to a subscriber every few months. You are already entered since you are a subscriber.

Ooops,I was wrong on those basic chords for Dr. Dr. They are all power chords (5 Chord) E, C, G, D. I put it on the list and have decided this is a good one to do so it will be sooner than I mentioned.
That's a compliment. LOL. I saw Y&T's farewell tour. It was amazing.
