1973, rochester ny, went to see J. Geils Band, foghat, and some unknown band called Montrose to open things up. they played the first album and absolutely blew my mind. that first album is 33 minutes of some of the best rock ever put on vinyl. I think you would all agree.

Summer '79, and since I was 'little brother' I got dibs when older sister married money and they just 'had to' upgrade the stock 80-watt Alpine tuner/cassette deck in their new Jaguar. With the deck came four 8" speakers that had to weigh 5 lbs(?) Whatever the weight, they were at least twice the heft of any car stereo speakers I'd ever seen/felt. Man, this deck ROCKED when they finally shoe-horned it into my Toyota Corolla. I had THE loudest, but still crystal-clear car stereo of anyone I knew. And along with shimmering highs with zero distortion, the speakers with the front/rear fader and mondo magnets made for DEEP rich bass, and thundering drums. Thanks sis! Led Zep, Boston, The Police, Dire Straights all had awesome songs. The Montrose record, front to back, every song just ROCKED! And on that deck, boy howdy ;-) I partied with friends, and vented teen angst on the steering wheel to the beats of ROCK CANDY, BAD MOTOR SCOOTER and virtually every other song on the album. They all rocked. Not a bad/filler track on the entire record. Young Haggar in full voice, classic cool rock guitar riffs, and powerful and tasteful rock drumming. I would have fallen in love with that record regardless.I just consider myself extra lucky to have heard it with the kind of fidelity and tone and raw power and energy that truly brings out all the best in the music. All my tapes and FM radio sounded just awesome on that thing. For a few years though, Montrose played 3:1 more than anything else.

Has absolutely kicked ass every time I've seen him - no matter the group behind him! His music has been the soundtrack to my life... Of the seven or eight times I've seen him (and the band(s)!!!) have never disappointed. Gets the blood pumping to this day!

Mona better than Bill Church? Are you kidding me. Bill Church was the best bass player Sammy ever had by far. Too bad that Sammy only made the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame under the Van Halen flag. His solo career was his best years. Van Halen = David Lee Roth. Sammy Hagar = Sammy Hagar.
