I have always been in awe at this particular recording of Vissi d’arte because of her breath control during the long note. Everyone I ever heard singing this aria takes a breath before finishing that note but not Caballa. She was powerful!

Not intending to be mean, but how can it be your favourite aria when you don't even know how it's written. It's not "Vici d'arte" as you wrote it, but it's "Vissi d'arte" which means, "I lived for the arts".

Al margen de que hoy nadie canta así, he de decir que la unica que le ha dado-y no voy a entrar en la tecnica, la proyección de voz, la respiracion, ni los pianissimo, ni la voz de pecho, que la tenia, graves, que los tenia, etc.- solo Callas en sus mejores momentos y Caballé aun mejor, cantaron esta aria asi. Porque se trata de una mujer pidiendo clemencia y ella lo hace aqui. Bravisima Caballé. Para mi, esto es insuperable, porque aunque Callas era acojonante y Tebaldi y muy pocas mas en este rol, el despliegue emocional y tecnico que despliega esta mujer es insuperable.

Quand on est intelligent, musicienne, avec une bonne technique qui donne un soutien vocal parfait (technique traditionnelle italienne bien entendu), un souffle qu'elle a bien exercé depuis sa tendre enfance, eh bien cela donne le si bémol final aigu et ce qui suit sans respirer, avec un diminué et des pianissimos sans faille ! Cette technique est perdue de nos jours, je suis le seul à l'enseigner encore car apprise il y a fort longtemps....
