@British Knight the competitive nature of modern humans derives itself more from our present material conditions than anything biological. There is absolutely no credible scholarly work out there that definitively proves the natural state of the human mind, and all that can be accurately stated is that when humans are placed in a system that requires you to be competitive; they're going to be competitive. This is not the natural state of human beings, rather it is the present state of human beings. Do no be mistaken and assume capitalism is the natural state of things. Prior to capitalism and feudalism there was communalism, which in its practice demonstrated the capability of the human being to act in cooperation with the whole for the betterment of everyone. Not to mention that cooperation is what ultimately led humans to their advanced status.

If income inequality reaches a certain point, there will inevitably be theft. If people don't voluntarily accept that inequality that leads to their starvation, the people hoarding wealth will not sit idly by while the less affluent take back their resources. The more affluent will buy the services of violent people to protect their private property. What stops those that acquired too much wealth from violating the NAP?

@Muykle7 жыл бұрын
HowToComputer, You seem to be looking at a superficial definition of Communism. Communists, and Anarchists have a focus on who controls the means of production, not what degree that the government controls the economy. Communists want to seize control over the means of production and abolish private property (which is different than personal property). They want to take over the state and have the state take over the means of production. This period is called socialism. During this time, the state uses its power to fight off foreign threats and adjust people to life in autonomous collectives. Once everyone is in autonomous collectives, that government type will be called "communism". Anarchists all want to abolish all unjustified hierarchy. How they do this varies because there are so many brands of anarchy. Other than wishing to abolish hierarchy, Anarchists are divided on how things should be run and how their goals will be achieved. The end goal of Communism and Anarchism are the same thing: they want small autonomous regions with federalized representative leadership. (Some brands of anarchy disagree with this.) Libertarians and Ancaps sometimes find the ideas of Mutualism interesting. Mutualism is a form of anarchy that believes in using currency, but against the hoarding of resources.
@Muykle7 жыл бұрын
Please tell me. What anarchist groups are you talking about that killed millions? There are certainly weaknesses in anarchism, but it is not corruption. Can you apply the same metrics of death by capitalism? There are real issues with the Bolshevik revolution like the loss of farming knowlege that lead to starvation. There is starvation in our capitalist system. Do you count the wars and pollution, the political executions (which both capitalists and communists both did alot of)?

@@talkeetnatattoos This is an odd sweeping statement, as it really depends on which actors and comedians you're talking about. Ever watched actor and comedian George Carlin, for example? The best comedy has always been based in the truth, at least at some level, as it pokes fun at the truth, which the audience can recognise. Satire is a form of comedy that is universal and political in nature. It is useful for pointing out flaws in our ideas about politics in a way which is thought-provoking, humourous and understandable, which makes the message more likely to reach masses of people. Or is your problem with comedians or actors influencing political thought, actually that political ideas aren't legitimate unless spouted by some professor in a terribly intricate and clever way, so ordinary people (who don't have the time or energy to read mountains of political literature, and therefore are obviously not capable of making benevolent judgements or decisions for themselves) shouldn't be able to access or understand those ideas? I fear for the future of our children and their children (and so on, and so on) if we continue to allow a short-sighted greed-driven system to create ever-increasing poverty for the insane wealth of a few, and decimate our planet's resources in the process. I'm sure plenty of actors and comedians defend this system, but so do many learned political thinkers, doesn't mean any of them are justified or correct in doing so. No matter how an idea is introduced to you, it is always up to you to think for yourself and try to figure out what you believe.

I think the joke is more about the absurdity of "woke"/socially conscious/enlightened peasants. How on earth did they get so educated on their situation? _THEY CAN'T READ!_ Its a nice touch that- here's the kicker- Dennis is right. Anarcho-Syndicalism may not be your flavor of politics (it ain't mine), but Dennis is completely right about their circumstances. It is about class, its a feudal structure. Its a kingdom! That's absolutely a self-perpetuating autocracy. And Arthur most definitely got that crown by exploiting the peasants and hanging onto outdated dogma. So its also mocking our vision of arthurian legend, the past, and the middle ages altogether. Dennis is basically saying to us "you know this whole thing is kinda fucked, right?"

Autonomous collective requires land and the ability to pay taxes for said land. Its extremely difficult to legally do sustenance farming in many countries due to this. Also, after hippies started their communes, many states passed laws restricting certain numbers of unrelated people from living on the same property. Capitalism depends on our inability to freely grow our own food and provide for our own basic needs- it's not an accident that its hard to do this legally under a capitalist state. I know people struggling to start their communes. It's purposefully way harder than it needs to be due to taxes, laws, etc.

a better ending to the game of thrones: a bunch of peasants overthrow Cersei and install an anarcho-syndicalist commune in kings landing, where the standard of living improves for the small folk before Daenerys arrives to be crowned queen, Daenerys is unable to take the city because the peasants will stand for no rulers(they stormed the dragon pit and killed Rhaegal), so Daenerys burns kings landing in retaliation for their rejection of monarchism to protect her birthright as the queen of the seven kingdoms. thematically this would have made sense, Daenerys proclaims herself a "liberator" and breaker of chains, but when confronted with an ideology that threatens her birthright and privilege, she reveals to the world and the audience who she was all along, a monarchist wearing a hollow facade of liberation but rejecting actual liberation ideology when it threatens her quest for power that she feels entitled to as a white Targaryen woman.

The thing about kings is, sometimes you'd get lucky and have a really good one. And as a king, a supreme ruler not dependent on elections, he'd have near-absolute power and be able to do a lot of decent things. And then society would prosper and remain happy and stable for quite some time. But with CEOs, magnates and hedge fund billionaires, you never really get a good one, because there aren't any. Oh, maybe once in a while there's a sort of neutral one who tries to do cool things and sometimes succeeds, like Elon Musk or Steve Jobs. But mostly there's just an endless succession of bland, beady-eyed creeps--venal, arrogant, conscienceless, greedy, and megalomaniacal, and in charge of SO much power it's terrifying. I'd almost rather take my luck with a royal family, especially in this modern era when they are no longer able to lop off peoples' heads at will, AND a little nervous that we might lop off theirs.

Hilariously enough, this situation is rather common in the Medieval era. Though, mostly a jab at Hippie communes in the 1960's and 70's. At least the medieval commune being self-governed than a popular consensus of feudal overlord. Not to mention the lack of national identity, which this scene showed the villager's clueless about Britons, let alone Arthur. And Terry Jones is a medieval historian, who actually covered Peasant political and justice administration through the democratic council.

Let me just celebrate this sketch by nerding out a little to quote a favourite and inspired passage from Rudolf Rocker's classic *Anarcho*-*Syndicalism* : *Theory* *and* *Practice* : "Anarchism recognizes only the relative significance of ideas, institutions, and social forms. It is, therefore, not a fixed, self-enclosed social system, but rather a definite trend in the historic development of mankind, which in contrast with the intellectual guardianship of all clerical and governmental institutions, strives for the free unhindered unfolding of all the individual and social forces in life. Even freedom is only a relative, and not an absolute concept, since it tends constantly to become broader and to affect wider circles in more manifold ways. For the Anarchist, freedom is not an abstract philosophical concept, but the vital concrete possibility for every human being to bring to full development all the powers, capacities, and talents with with nature has endowed him, and turn them to social account. The less this natural development of man is influenced by ecclesiastical or political guardianship, the more efficient and harmonious will human personality become, the more will it become the measure of the intellectual culture of the society in which it has grown." Dennis: You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you! Arthur: Shut up! Dennis: I mean, if I went around saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away! Arthur: [grabs Dennis] Shut up! Will you shut up?!
