+1954774 The Staffordshire branch could learn a thing or two from you
@mikekilo94767 жыл бұрын
@David; Your comment applies only to the south Staffordshire branch - since they deaffiliated from the Staffordshire County Society for Putting Things on Top of Other Things but Not very Much ; however, the north Staffordshire branch (which includes Cannock Chase and Rugeley) remain, to this day, firmly committed to not putting too many things on top of other things. I hope that clears that up.
@BrucknerMotet7 жыл бұрын
I am very much relieved to learn from Martin Kearns that the good people of North Staffordshire have not grown too complacent in their duties to the Society. And even if their members were to merely put one thing on top of another thing over the course of an entire year, that dutiful act would stand them in good stead in comparison to their slothful neighbors to the south. Good sir, I commend you for pointing out this crucial distinction, and may your branch thrive and succeed in placing no fewer than 1 thing on top of another thing and of course no more than too many things on top of other things. Because if your branch membership were to place more things on top of other things than just enough things, then the branch would be in great danger of being seen as an organization consisting of nothing but a bunch of silly persons.

I lived in London and attended college there in the early 70’s. This sketch, and all the comedy of MP, was a satire of British society and culture. What a great time to have been alive and in London. It’s a shame what they have done to old England.

+WondrousMoose Also how they are surrounded by cameras that shoot in 16mm film, rather than magnetic tape cameras when they are indoors (due to the limitations of said cameras)
@simontay48516 жыл бұрын
Why can't they use magnetic tape cameras outside.
@clarissamcpigeon78577 жыл бұрын
The whole 35mm indoors, 16mm outdoors thing was truly iconic and a very British way of doing film and TV productions back in the day. It stopped in the early 90s as the 35mm equipment became more viable for outdoor use.
@Uraby210Incorporated7 жыл бұрын
Surely it was videotape indoors, not 35mm film?
@ZigSputnik7 жыл бұрын
+Clarissa McPigeon You seem to have things badly muddled there. The studio stuff was recorded on 2" quadruplex video tape from video cameras and the exteriors used 16mm film. In the early 80s they started using portable video cameras for the exteriors and these had become the norm by the 90s.
@simontay48516 жыл бұрын
Why couldn't video tape cameras be used outside?
@banjochris6 жыл бұрын
You could but you had to bring multiple giant cameras and an outside broadcast van with a videotape recorder in it. VT was hard to edit in the '60s so you had to cut it "live" between a couple cameras and the recording machine was about the size of a VW bug. Much easier to take a 16MM film camera and sound equipment.
@oreokookie10006 жыл бұрын
Yes, your right...wally heider did alot of that shit in san fran. I believe monty used some 16mm, and alot of video. I don't recall any sit- coms using 35mm, it was wicked expensive in those days. We couldn't even afford 16 mm doin guerilla film making in the early 70's....well we were teenagers!
@MrTree177910 жыл бұрын
This show was simply insane, which is part of why I love it, and why it has endured. It's beyond funny, beyond social commentary. It dared not only to push the boundaries of what was allowed on TV, but to completely remove them. So, here's to Python: may they be watched and remembered for many future generations.

This joke wouldn't work today where the picture quality is just the same between studio and location shoot, was a very noticeable part of shows right up to the late 80s though, even into the 90s with some.
@mubd123412 жыл бұрын
For anyone who doesn't get the "we're on film" bit - before electronic video cameras became portable and video tape easily edited, scenes that were performed in locations outside a studio would be shot using 16mm film cameras and scanned back onto a video tape later. This was quite obvious to viewers because of the poorer quality, dirt on the film and slower frame rate compared to electronic video cameras.

If I may, I must express my concern that the Royal Society For Putting Things On Top Of Other Things may encounter difficulties in putting all things on top of other things. If you put a thing on top of another thing, them that thing that is not on top of another thing, and must be put on top of another thing. But if you remove it from under a thing, then that thing is no longer on top of another thing. I fear, dear sirs, that the mission to put things on top of other things is ultimately doomed to failure.
