Monumental defeat for Brexit sparks chaos

Theresa May's Brexit deal has been crushed by a record margin as British lawmakers rejected it by 432 votes to 202.
After eight days of parliamentary debate and 200 speeches, members of the House of Commons ignored the Prime Minister's final pleas and delivered a humiliating verdict on her plan to take Britain out of the European Union.
The result -- the worst parliamentary defeat for a British government in the modern era -- means the Prime Minister now faces a deep political crisis, with no clear path out of the mess.
Speaking moments after May's humiliating defeat, opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn put forward a motion of no confidence in May's government.
Corbyn said the challenge would allow the Commons to "give its verdict on the sheer incompetence of this Government."

Conservatives are only about conserving the fortunes and privileges of the rich. Conserving the property or rights of the hoi polloi, the plebs, the nation or the natural world, is directly against their interests. If you don't agree with the right wing, fit into their vision of society or the economy or just fail to be a profitable economic unit, the right has 3 possible responses. Conservatives don't care if you live or die. Fascists want you to die. Nazis will happily arrange your death.

People voted for Brexit based on populist sentiments and not factual evidence. I just don't know how the UK can win this situation, the most favorable terms for the UK were what they had in the EU. I understand patriotism and love for ones home, but the Brexit is bad for the EU but devastating for the UK. Citizens need to listen to professionals on this matter not their emotions. The UK has heavily survived on colonialism and thereafter commonwealth influence alongside solid trade ties with the EU block mostly in offering finical services. With these gone and motor industry completely decimated a great empire May fall.

Alan Heath THE PEOPLE HAVE HAD A VOTE, THE RESULT WAS TO LEAVE! Shove your 2nd referendum where the sun don't shine! To have a 2nd vote shows more disrespect to politics & the people than not delivering on the result! Example: if man United beat Torquay United and Torquay felt hard done too, would it be right for them to demand a re-match? NO IT WOULDN'T! The box that was ticked on the ballot was LEAVE or remain, it never said anything about deals nor nothing! And while project fear rages on let me point out Toyota have just invested £350M into there plant at Derby, clearly the Japanese can see through project fear! The only reason the likes of Land rover have moved is because the EU funded the move plus back handers, to me that's another reason to leave the Nazis created union of the dictatorship! Except the fact more people in the biggest ever vote in UK politics voted LEAVE! if you cant expect the result the streets have a song for you "dry you eyes mate" We'll be fine without the EU and that's a fact, the UK exports more than it imports for starters! And the EUs single market accounts for 7% of world trade, that means there's 93% of the world awaiting our departure!

@@jacobp.2024 Not sure if you've watched much of the British Parliament, but they are like this pretty much all the time.

To be fair, she's in a no-win position here. Europe had and has a vested interest in making Brexit as painful for the UK as possible. And it should have been pretty clear from the start that anything the British could negociate out of this would not be what the Brexiteers wanted, not even close. So there was no way this wasn't going to end up the way it did. That is not to say that her team didn't botch a good part of the negociations, and the politics around them in general. Reading what David Davis had to say about the negociations sounded laughably arrogant towards the EU. They seemed to not understand that the UK wasn't the one negociating from a position of strenth. But regardless, by this point, Teresa May is expected to steer a ship that is in fact dead in the water. With an iceberg drifting towards it. And I really don't envy her on that.

It‘s like watching theatre or a musical. The weirdly anachronistic mode of presentation overshadows the very urgent and relevant content - at least for me.

Theresa May's Brexit doesn't seem that far removed from Donald Trump's Border Wall.

Brexit was voted on in a referendum. That means the citizens of Britain voted for this. May was not PM at that time. What May is trying to do is come up with an exit plan (from the European Union.) Totally removed from trump's wall, that is of his making.

I was wondering if Russian bots would come here. Hey Vlad, nobody cares what you think. You are so stupid you let a little squirt steal all of your money and mistreat you. Just like all of your proletarian ancestors.
