Hello there Yarn Lovers!
I’m super excited to be launching our next Mood Board MAL installment for Summer 2024. The theme is all about becoming the Architect of Emotion - choosing places and spaces that we visit to feel a certain way. Our mood boards will be of Architecture and the way things are constructed, focusing on details and features - and these will help us describe our feelings. These spaces should be human built places that we will use to inspire the boards and when done these boards will help us to make an item.

A few details about the Mood Boards and make that I may not have mentioned:
Works can be done in any yarn craft - e.g. Knit, Crochet, Tunisian, Weaving, to name a few.
Creations need to be completed within the running of the MAL June 6 to August 15, 2024.
All are welcome to participate - wherever you live.
All photo entries of the Mood Boards and Makes need to be emailed to [e-mail] no later than August 15, 2024 (midnight), as to be added into the slideshow presentation. The slideshow of mood boards and makes will be featured on the channel by the end of August 2024 to celebrate all the great work. By emailing in your photographic entries, you are agreeing to have your work displayed and give consent. All images and words represented in the mood boards should adhere to the guidelines of KZbin’s best practices - so please no controversial or offensive uses of these counterparts.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

I loved watching you present your mood board and explaining the thought process behind your choice of patterns and yarn. You had so many beautiful colors chosen for the Stained Glass mood board. You asked which color we were drawn to between the red and green, and my vote would be the red! It would be just the right color contrast needed with your color palette. Anyone who can knit Stephen West patterns is a Yarn God/dess in my estimation, Gary! Both shawls are stunning and breathe a sense of luxury whether in stitch design or colours. Since I’ve already had to lift my jaw back into position after the crocheted piece, I can say I am looking forward to the stained glass shawl with great anticipation. My personal colour choice would be the red… always RED! Like Bag-o-Day, I love a good red!

Those diamond with crescent moon tiles would make a great pattern for a wrap or throw! I love the plaster casts, and the accompanying shawl fit's the theme ~ gorgeous! And the wrought iron mixed with designs from the Master Architect. Thanks to Creative Gary for sharing his clever design ideas ~ so much beauty. I have enjoyed your previous videos on making your Yaga Yaga shawl and I love how it turned out. For the stained glass inspired shawl the crab apple red gives it a more stained glass feel. I usually gravitate towards rich greens like the jade one, but in this case the primary color of the red seemed better. Thank you for sharing all your lovely ideas, Gary!

I notice your lovely knit sweater vest…western Canada must be still chilly, perhaps? It’s the end of the first week of June in Colorado and we just put in our air conditioners…with 90 degree days I’m in shorts and t-shirts as I create and garden. Hi Terry - I do have a sketchbook that I scribble notes and drawings down in and that helps me retain the ideas. Only on the odd occasion would I mood board for a project, but I'm starting to think a collection of mood boards might make a nice coffee book for home.

Hi Gary, I am always amazed at the beautiful patterns you find! And I just recently rediscovered my love of charts, so I have those Polish patterns in my cart lol. I LOVE the 2 patterns you showed from them. For the stained glass inspired one which is gorgeous BTW, it makes me think of melting stain glass. But I would actually not choose either the Jad or Red although both beautiful. When looking at the multi color yarn I saw the purple and cream/tan. I would pull those colors out to harmonious with the others. What do you think?

Thanks for the colour suggestions - this does sound wonderful. Charts are so helpful when dealing with a designer that may write patterns in a different language - the use of the symbols bridge that gap.

To make sure I understand, pictures of mood and create something, like mountains for serenity, oceans for beauty calming, my daughter for love and joy, friends for happiness sharing then create let say a shawl using the colors from the pictures?

Hello friend, The steps in creating the mood board is to take photo clippings of architectural details from places you have a emotional connection with. For example if you love the dining room of your own home, take a snap shot of the light fitting, the bay window, the reading nook to add to the mood board. When that's done, choose a keyword to express the feeling (perhaps togetherness, joy, etc). It's all about the space and the architecture that you're recording to evoke the emotions. Then with your make - pick the colours from the mood board and/or the things that may translate into a pattern. (eg. Your dining room is a home from the 1970s and there's a crazy patterned wallpaper - you may find a pattern that looks like that wallpaper). I hope my description helps with the steps in the make along, but let me know if we need to chat more about it.

Hi there - you're choosing images and photos of architecture. It can be the details found in places you visit and the designs within the space - e.g. tiles, archways, staircases, fixtures etc. and then choose the feeling that you get from visiting them (put the "feeling" word on the board).
