Here's another clip from The Lost Performance - Live At Taverne De L'olympia, Paris 1970. The band really sings this song. No Lip sync. and this issue was resolved by Mike Pinder a few years ago. The vocals and flute are live. The rest is backing track which is why there is sometimes a double flute. Pinder is sitting at an organ and obviously not a Mellotron. this info was pass on by hostroute.

I can only hope Ray Thomas knew how much his contribution meant to the band’s fans. He wrote some of the very most hauntingly beautiful and engaging songs. This was one of them.

I remember being introduced to their music. My friends laid me on the floor, put a speaker on each side of my head, said, "You won't believe this", and proceeded to play their 3 existing albums. It was quite a journey. For a while The Beatles didn't exist, Zeppelin didn't exist, nor did anyone else exist. I was hooked. I've seen them 5 times and I believe that I'm better off for having listened to their music and especially their lyrics and also for learning to play their music on guitar.

One of their best songs...in my humble opinion. Go back to 1969 and sit with me in a room in a one horse town in TX. with nothing but thoughts and loneliness No drugs..not alcohol or ones of the earth and when you..like me today listen again...want to escape....do...just do...in your mind..because that is all we are allowed.

I always knew Justin Hayward was good looking, I just didn't know how gorgeous a man could be. Probably the prettiest man I have ever laid my eyes on. Glad I got to see this band live at the Mann Music Center on a warm summer evening in Philadelphia. I didn't realize Mike Pinder is still alive so I think as of today Hayward, Lodge & Pinder are still alive.

First time I saw them live was at the Hollywood Bowl on October 10th, 1996 with my gal pal Kristin. It was her birthday, and mine was the next day. No warm up band, just the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra doing a 20 minute or so medley of MB songs. When they were done, the whole place was on its feet applauding and whooping it up, whistling, etc for several minutes. The HBO members were flabbergasted at such a response, looking at each other in amazement at the effect they had created! They were obviously not used to crowd reactions like that, or so it seemed. We were close enough that you could see the expressions on their faces as they looked around and some nodded their head as they smiled. Pure freakin' MAGIC!! Then the Moodies came out and launched into their gig and brought the place down again. What a night that was, I'll never forget it. I saw them two more times, once again at the HB and then at the Universal Amphitheater in Universal City. If there was only one band that I could ever hear for the rest of my life, it would definitely be The Moody Blues, because they perform such a wide variety of music. They are one of the few bands that no one has covered any of their songs. Wonder why that is?? Randy

I've been a huge Moody Blues fan since the late 60s. This song (particularly the recorded version) highlights how, in my opinion, Justin Hayward had the most beautiful male voice ever in the history of pop/rock music. It's good to see that even now, there are so many of you out there who still understand and appreciate how incredible this music was, and sad to think that it's like will never again be created.

I listen to headphones when I ride my bicycle constantly and I ride nearly everyday 365 days a year, and the Moody Blues is like a soundtrack to my riding. I especially dig night time riding with lights of course, I feel like I'm in a space ship with them...escaping all the worldly troubles which are constant for most all adults. If it was not for the bike and the Moody Blues I think I"d be a pathetic waste.

I wore out the Live +5 album when I first got it 35 years ago, but didn't appreciate the guitar work on this song particularly until I listened to it with headphones. It is amazing and he is a truly underrated guitar virtuoso. If you don't believe me, look up legendary producer Tony Visconti's comments on his guitar work.

That it's a non-issue for you is just right and that it's a verifiable live track is also right for me. And lemme tell ya, playing the guitar parts and singing this sucker is NOT a cakewalk. Those are some seriously talented young men and we're lucky to have this video to prove it. Michelle

Points to consider: Hayward's voice fades in and out as he leans into the mike. The 2nd flute is Pinder's Chamberlin. Hayward's guitar has an internal mike. (Yes, they had them in 1970) NO echo on Hayward's voice. NO onstage monitors then and the band heard foldback from the mains. Crowd noises. Don't forget that. Been there, done that. I started playing professionally about the time these guys were hitting their peak. Michelle

@@jamesmcintyre2008 yes, but some of it is. The Moody Blues is a live performance band, always has been. It is unfortunate that parts of the sound was stolen. But I am happy to see at least a few of their live concert songs in this gig in France were saved. I have the DVD of this gig as well as the huge concert (like the USA's Woodstock in August 1969) wherein they appeared in front of thousands of people and they sounded great. Every gig they have done and was put on a DVD, I have bought, besides their albums, including DOFP. I have been to several of Justin Hayward's solo gigs and the small band sounds great. It really angers me that Duran Duran's new cd is entitled Future Past! Sound familiar? Now I like DD, been to their concerts, but I do not care for their title of their new album.

They born to this. They had to have been to be this good, with so many hits, and so good live. Back then bands didn't really try to sound like they did on the recording. I'm blown away right now.

I've seen the Moody Blues twice before...and sad to say WITHOUT Michael Pinder.... The flautist's solo along with Justin Haywards singing makes THIS a MOST relaxing and "escapist" from reality song that I have ever heard! Thank You for posting this MoodiesFan! BRAVO!

@hostroute Thanks for confirming this. There are several KZbin vids from this concert, and I have commented on severl of them that some of the music was dubbed, since we hear Pinder's Mellotron MkII but see him playing a Hammond B3. The singing however is clearly "live."
