DFAM my favorite analog machine, it is pure beauty. Here 30 min of me tweaking slowly the knobs of the monster. Memory man hazarai was used and some reverb was added on the Octatrack. / moog-dfam-analog-solo-...

This is so sick, great work on this machine. I use a DFAM myself in some of my techno but it's a tough beast to wrangle. So unpredictable, and little changes on the controls have such huge impact on the sound. You really show off how patience & restraint - slow, smooth changes - are what make this machine sing. Second the popular idea in comments that a huge pounding 4-on-the-floor kick would have made me leap out of my chair to dance at certain points :)

At 13:27 if you dropped in the right kick and some hi hats it would be blast off time. So many interesting detours would be possible in this gorgeous long form jam. Really impressive workout on the DFAM, very dynamic throughout, love the timing and subtle tweaks. Also aesthetically, this looks really great wide screen format. Just got the DFAM, SUB, and MOTHER, this is easily one of the best DFAM videos I've seen, subbed and liked. Very inspirational.

Imagine the amazing live sets you could play if you know what was going to come out of the DFAM! But I guess that would take away from the exploration and free form expression. Best advice is have another drum machine on hand for when you create a big build up so you can always get back to a beat when you need it. With that said the DFAM is easily my favorite synth!
@christophervincent772 жыл бұрын
I was having difficulty with the Dfam until I layered in my TR8. Even if you only line up one kick per cycle, it ties everything together and makes the DFam sit in the mix really well. Gets harder when you try to do anything outside of typical techno beats, but I'm a n00b and still learning.
@ghostinplainsight48032 жыл бұрын
@@christophervincent77 Yeah the TR8 would be perfect, sometimes you can dial in a nice kick, but I find it's better to make all the other sounds on the DFAM and have a solid reliable kick. also pair it up with Delay and Reverb to really fill in the sound, I have sends on the TR8s not sure about the TR8.

I’m coming back to listen to this every now and again. Sooo good! Did you use the memory man as a looper or as a delay only?
@andyexplorestheworld24673 жыл бұрын
This is a terrific sound. I've been researching DFAM and other options for a while and I am swaying towards DFAM. Just out of interest are you using the Octatrack to create the pulse and sequence the DFAM? It's one of the best sounds I've heard coming out of it for sure so congrats. I'm working on a dark noise project and i'm interested in DFAM also for making weird distorted noises and it looks good for that as well. Thanks for reading.
@perellovemusic3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, Octatrack just sending clock to dfam and adding reverb and delay.

@@perellovemusic Thank you. It's such a cool sounding machine. So the great sound is really the DFAM? I have other reverb and delay pedals.
@perellovemusic3 жыл бұрын
@@andyexplorestheworld2467 Yeap, pure dfam 🙏😋🙏 But it is not all that easy. The machine is unpredictable in many cases and it always hard for my to make it play well with others because of the pitch control. But that's also what makes it spacial. Dfam and mother 32 must to have combo. But of course it is great on its own.
@andyexplorestheworld24673 жыл бұрын
@@perellovemusic Thanks! I play a Lyra 8 and that is the same so unpredictable but again that's what makes it ace for sonic exploration. The DFAM is next on my list. I haven't managed to try one yet but the sound is out of this world. Just out of interest the stuff I make is much slower, can DFAM do very low BPM? Sorry for all the questions! It's really helpful
@macognia822 жыл бұрын
Hello, did you prerecord your tracks into a DAW or are you playing on multitrack mode? You got more than one sequence going on. I know there is two isolators, but it just sounds like there's more than two tracks going on. It's quite excellent!

DFAM is ok to do Minimal on its own but needs other machines for compos. Not keen on minimal myself as it gets a bit boring but some of the rifts are very interesting It`s missing something I don`t know what to call it, maybe "body", "atmosphere", "sub theme", "accompaniment", patching". Or simply layered with other sounds. Like "Ghost in plain site" says below, you don`t know whats comming out so needs composition, layering. It`s a series of rifts with the same beat, almost the definition of Minimal.

Complete newbie question.... In different setups I allways see a reverb add on. Why is that? Those Moog's are full of effects and stuff, so why the reverb? might seem a dumb question, sorry for that. thx for considering an answer.

actually, in this case you're right. the reverb is resonating and creating a constant tone which does detract from the DFAM. This is a great track though.
