You can always control the folder index by mixing CV with your audio before the folder-remember that a folder is also a VCA. I only wish the Mavis had a bigger mixer or more envelopes. You can also generate more foldable harmonics by slewing your waves through the filter before the folder. Wavefolding is so much fun. ❤

Anyone know of a good desktop drone typa synth? Looking to make some pretty expansive drones on new tracks.
@jonpatchmodular2 жыл бұрын
Depending on what you're looking for but from personal experience and in this context, the Neutron is the right tool. Two nice, fat sounding VCO's, noise, a multimode filter, modulable analog BBD delay and overdrive offer a rich and very tweakable sound. The LFO, S&H, two envelopes, two attenuators (one of them a VCA) and a slew limiter allow great modulation potential. All that turns it into a great standalone drone unit or at most with some reverb or a modulation effect (lovely on phaser). But I'll gladly expose that the S&H and the slew limiter are NOT precise enough to use them for pitch signals. And there are no convenient FM inputs for the VCO's, just the v/o ins. Seriously, if you want something more premium look for something as versatile as the Neutrom or just make a modular synth. If you're looking more for a polysynth type deal then I don't know.
@montxsuz2 жыл бұрын
I have a Moog Werkstatt + CV Expander. I am wondering if there is value in adding a Moog Mavis to turn it into a 2 oscillator "stereo" synth. There are some good KZbin videos of people making good ambient music on the Werkstatt, nothing yet on using the two together. (I have a heap of other synths incl a few other semi-modulars. Mavis will join my DIY bench if I get it).

Always a good day when Moog announces a new synthesizer with an accompanying Hainbach-vid 🙌🏼
2 жыл бұрын
EVERYONE and their mother in synthesizer-youtube-land got a Mavis from Moog! I counted 9 (nine!) among my subscriptions, and all on the same day. I subscribed to those channels because I (used to) value their diversity and original individual approaches, but this kind of thing is happening more and more often and fosters a sheep mentality among youtubers and users alike. Every youtuber knows that publishing a bad review on the release date puts them at risk of being left out of the loop for future releases, which is bad news for their channel‘s monetization. Even if the manufacturers don’t spell it out...they don’t need to, because „baah-baah!“...The synth world needs their own Glenn Fricker.

Competition for the West Pest in the form of an affordable Moog? Yes please! Such exciting times for synth people! Edit: the lack of MIDI, a built-in sequencer, and specially CV modulation of the wave folder are a bit of a downer. Wave folders are fun, but in this package, it just doesn't bring enough to the table.
@ThisIsDownstate2 жыл бұрын
agreed. without those things i feel it's over priced. Slightly diff beasts i know, but for a cheaper price i think a crave is more useful and sounds great.
@BottleMakesMusic2 жыл бұрын
It's a nice synth, and the voicing seems OK. Filter definitely has a rich, wet "squelch" to it. On the other hand, the wavefolder is a bit "meh" TBH (I much prefer the sound of the WF in my 0-Coast). The lack of CV control is a bit of an oversight as is the absence of even a basic MIDI implementation. At that price point you're getting awfully close to MakeNoise territory, without some of the features.
