I got hooked on wanting one when I heard Josef Skrzek from SBB doing his thing with it (late 70's great Polish trio). In my own opinion, nobody mastered Minimoog better than him. Under his fingers, it became a dynamic monster that superbly blended into SBB music that I still dig to this day. Nothing sounds like it. I have one sitting at Sweetwater waiting for me to pick up - finally! My lifetime dream. Another jewel in form of Taurus 3 I bought last year, I spent 3 years hunting for one, and this came out of the blue. I immediately bought it because I knew I might never get another shot at it. I didn't want to get it shipped to me - I want to pick it up in person. Hopefully in next two weeks.

Although I really love the minimoog sound and understand that the use premium quality materials, make it by hand and it will last forever. I think this is the new peak of the ridiculous price management by Moog. This clearly aims at collectors, hardcore fans or big studios or producers where money is not an issue. For all the rest: I strongly think that 99% of us wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference of an original minimoog sound or eg the Behringer models in most of modern music mixes. So sadly this I just a product where they try to make more money with a brand name and a 50 year old design.

@@Fallingoverbackwards there’s less craftsmanship involved, but the electronics would make up the price. I think people underestimate how difficult it is to replicate 50 year old analog hardware. To get an idea, think about re-creating the sound of a guitar made from an extinct tree, with nylon and resin that haven’t been produced for half a century. I think you could do everything you need in modern dance production with just this. Gen Z trance (or any other kind for that matter)? No problem. Garage/speed garage/future whatever? Yep. Fifty thousand flavours of techno? Yep. Hardgroove? You kidding me? What I'm really saying is you just sold me on the Minimoog. And I think this proves minimalist workflow is the way if you want to actually make tracks (that is, one synth only). I didn't think anyone could convince me on the Minimoog but you just did.

I'm all in favor of Moog building the Minimoog Model D constantly as ONE continious product in their line, simply because of the historic and music-cultural relevance. Just like the Volkswagen Käfer was produced for soooo long even though VW had other and more modern cars made at the same time. Because the demand for a Model D is just soooo high. Personally I'm not 100% a fan of the Mahargony wood but prefer the 70s caramel-coloured wood a lot more but to me there simply is NO ugly Minimoog. They are all beautiful, no matter what wood colour.
