Got mine in February and there's something special about sitting down with it, every single time. The simplicity of the machine just speaks to you, in a way. Sure, no one is gonna be able to tell if it's the minimoog, behringer or a plugin version in a mixed track, but the inspiration that strikes when you put your hands on the real deal is something else, and to me worth that hefty price tag. First thing I did when it arrived was creating a drum kit with it haha. It's in a video in my profile and comes with samples. That said, I do regret having to sell my Subsequent 37 to afford this beast. So at one time or another I will have to get one of those again. It's one of the most flexible monosynths out there.

@@scheetmcborsten7977 it's funny when something much cheaper is classified as a "toy" when it can get close sonically, whilst I can appreciated Moog, I sold all my Moog gear, just not for me. I had a Model D too, again wasn't my cup of tea, but this should never sway others what they like or not. Car debate: I'd take a Lotus Exige over any more expensive 5 second 60 mph car any time of the day, why? Once you have that 5 second result, it doesn't matter how much more you pay, you have it, so sonically speaking, a Model D can do a lot for very little and this is perfect for the majority of people out there.

Great quick view plus a few iconic sounds from this landmark synth. Hands down pinnacle of analog monosynths; the interface/workflow in particular have no equal. Materials, components and build quality are as good as it gets. The thing is all the same is true of the midimini v30 for $1800 less and it has even a few more capabilities. Plus I wonder among those who can actually afford it how many appreciate the reality of a truly old school synth vs. something like a sub37? Everyone decides for themselves, but for me personally this (as perfect as it is) vs. the SE + a hydrasynth deluxe or used summit is no contest...

If you're someone that needs the sound and interface of an exact model D with the Moog name on the label, then I suppose you're willing to pay the price tag. 🤔 It's dang near an artpiece at that price, but it does sound superb, and an ACTUAL minimoog will always be a experience of it's own. Same as using an actual Rhodes or Wurlitzer vs plugins. Thankfully we live in a golden era of synths where you can get 90+ percent of the way there to getting model D sounds in various physical and software synths, and at a wide range of prices. 🤘

@@daemonelectricity I had the matriarch for about a year and it's something completely different in comparison. Same with the Voyager. In my opinion after using all of them there is a thump, bang, sprrr and bonk in the Minimoog that just isn't present in the matriarch nor the Voyager. I do love them all though but for totally different tasks. A subsequent 37 + a Matriarch would probably be money best spent unless you have a really fat wallet. But like you said the matriarch might be the goat when we look back on this in about a decade or so.
@maudias

Guys, this is a purely emotional decision. Let’s be honest, with the quality of the plugins in the market today, we barely need any hardware synth. I bought mine the day Moog released it. I have the serial number 14 😂. And what do I have for $5k? 1) fat and iconic sounds of the historical Moog Model D; 2) an absolutely beautiful piece of hardware that I feel good by only looking at; 3) a piece of history, the same synth I heard being played by “monster” of music, many of them my idols. So, it’s really a lot of money and absolutely not justified by only the sounds it produces. If you’re only looking for that sound, there are quite many excellent options out there, soft or hardware. Does it make sense? I don’t play it that much, but when I tweak it and record something for a song, it’s pure pleasure. ❤
@grapevinegrave
@grapevinegrave Жыл бұрын
@@mrnolex I agree that the Matriarch is a beast in its own right. It doesn't replace the Minimoog, though it can probably do a lot of stuff that the Minimoog can't. When taking to account the price difference, I find that the Matriarch gives much more bang for your buck. It sounds beautiful unpatched, and with patches you can interact with modular and take it to another level. Seriously though at this price range I'd rather just go all in on a poly like the OB-X8. But I can't lie that I'm still at least a little bit tempted to sell a kidney and a couple other organs for a Minimoog.

I really love the Model D but also looking at the Voyager, by watching as many You Tube video's as I can it's still hard. I have a Moog One and the Sub 37 so what I hear is the Voyager sounds more like the Moog One flavor to me, and the Model D sounds so raw and so great, it makes me feel the next Synth in the Moog family should be the Model D. Yes, it´s amazing and yes, it´s pure heritage. But very pricey 😟. I know the Moog service is excellent, quality superb and my Matriarch and Subsequent37 will be kept forever. What's interesting is the fact that some of the new features of the Minimoog can be found on another synth ... by Behringer 😉. When you cancel the word "Poly" from the Poly D and you are using the Poly D in mono mode then you get very close to the Minimoog Model D 2022. I sold my Poly D to get another synth but the Poly D was a very good deal (despite the keyboard that wasn't bad but not of the same quality as my Moogs have).

@@Answersonapostcard it’s a plot designed by staffers at Moog to keep their vintage gear values artificially high. If you’re too dense to see that then go ahead and buy one? It’s called a racket. Maybe read a book before you start talking about the philosophies behind the free market.

@@gregbeaudry Its more like they’re giving people what they want AND trying to remain a profitable company at the same time? Everyone criticizes Roland for not making reissues of their vintage classics. But now Moog and Oberheim are the bad guys because they did what everyone asked for? And how does Moog benefit from somebody selling a vintage Moog at a ridiculous price on Ebay? Those synths are priced that way …or a Jupiter 8, or a CS-80 … because there is a very limited supply, and there ARE enough people willing to pay for them. When is the last time someone criticized Steinway for selling million dollar grand pianos? Should we be up in arms about the Japanese company that makes Stradivarius violins that sell for more than a million dollars … for a small piece of wood with strings? Should be people be mad at custom Ferraris that sell for millions because it drives up the price of vintage Ferraris? No offense, but that’s a really dum dum argument (that’s me being polite) Moog is a pretty small operation, they’re employee owned, and they have run into financial issues in the past. If cashing in on their legacy keeps the company moving along and buys them time and resources to develop and create new products for us (which is a LOT harder than just copying what someone else has done and getting a clone mass produced in China), then I would be happy to support Moog doing a premium re-issue of one of their older products every few years of so. Who wouldn’t be thrilled to see a new, stable version of the MemoryMoog come out? 100% worth the price.

@@79Glitch Moog isn't a small operation, they're not a 10 man team, they get things made in China and assembled in the US. They copy themselves and use China for manufacture, so again most your points are moot.

I have two real Model D’s. One is from 1981, other is a reissue from a handful of years ago. And I have the Behringer. The Behringer sounds 100% identical to the reissue, once you get used to dialing in the sounds.

Are you kidding? We tried one at a music store and it was nothing like the new minimoog. The behringer quality control is terrible also it had a much thinner sound than the real deal.

@@akamrkris Like I said, you have to get used to dialing in the sound. I had the same initial impression. The knobs are very small so it can be hard to tell what’s going on and if you’re not careful you can screw up your own sound without realizing why. I almost returned mine before I figured this out.
