Still watching! Quick question: Can you still use the Ring Mod as an extra oscillator if you don't have the CP-251? I got a Matriarch and I'm trying to use one of the amplifiers to control the cv, but still cannot get my Ring Mod to tune across the keyboard. Thank you so much for doing this!

It won’t track the keyboard properly unless you can tune it with an attenuator... if you’ve got the GM maybe use the KYBD out to the attenuator on the utilities panel of the Gm.

The attenuator will give you the correct volts per octave to track correctly combined with the tuning knob on the RM to get the right pitch.

I have a question about guitar ring modulators that no KZbinr presenting them has managed to answer. My question is this: What is happening exactly when I tune a guitar note so I can hear it at the RM's output? This is logically impossible since the RM's output is ONLY the sum and difference of my guitars frequency and the RM's internal oscillator MEANING the two input frequencies are not present anymore. SO how come I can still somehow hear the frequency of my note? Thank you.

When you tune it using the internal oscillator so you can hear the original signal you're most likely tuning it to an octave higher, but it 'feel's like its tuned eg for a 1kHz signal you tune the RM to 2kHz as it sounds in tune... BUT you're now getting 1+2 and 2-1... which gives a 1kHz and a 3kHz signal that sounds like you're listening to the original 1kHz. Try it using this plugin and a sine wave.

Bought one because I wanted to sound like a Dalek when Dr. Who was rebooted in 2005.....could never really find a musical use for it so sold it a couple of years later..

I get your point. I find it difficult to use as a tonal effect.. ie one following pitch, but it can do crazy things to your hi hats.

@@StarskyCarr funny thing is, the ring mod on the original ARP Odyssey is an amazing addition (probably what Billy Currie means when he says the Odyssey was the first "punk synth") and from Dave Spiers' recent demo of the CS80, the ring mod also makes the synth sound amazing....have you ever used the EHX ring mod pedal?

@@StarskyCarr I've got the minifooger flange which is great and was thinking of picking up the ring mod. Glad to see a fellow scouser is synth nerd haha I've just sold my Yamaha cs-50 to get hold of the new prophet 5, I'm hoping behringer produces the goods with thier clone of the CS-80. The monopoly seems pretty impressive judging by the demo/review you put out.

That's why I also prefer GM over other similar synths, its compact enough to fit on the desk with extra gear! On topic: Moogerfoogers are perfect additions to GM and not only because they fit the size, but how they naturally extend the sound and its like they were built for this synth in mind! A bit too pricey and not easily to find though... ;(
