I love how simple your setup is. Incredibly streamlined. Everything has a purpose. Minimal fluff. It’s all very well thought out. I particularly like how you stow everything prior to beach landings. Especially breaking down your rod & reel. It all made perfect sense. So many useful takeaways in this video!

I didn’t want any snags on my rails so I installed Scotty gear mounts, with quick release buttons, sideways, on the vertical wall inside the netted compartments. I have four mounts for a Minnie downrigger, two rod holders, and a fish finder hooked up to the Scotty mounts, with adjustable arms. There is still room in the compartment for small tools. The boat has been very successful catching Eagle Lake Trout, we are going again at the end of August. Same boat, Revo 13, with new MD 180 drive. Love it.

Teach him how to kayak fishing, he will buy a kayak, a car to transport a kayak, rods, fish finder, PFD, whistle, knife, nets, wetsuit, hooks, lines, more rods and reels, rod holder, go pro, radio, and a second and third kayak., Then lures, baits, gas, sand wheel, straps, parking fee, but the most important of all is his happiness. Hey Moo. How did you add the scotty lake troller mounting bracket on the right side wall of the kayak? I noticed that when mounting the bracket on the right sidewall of the kayak, the notch only allows for the lake troller downrigger to be mounted with the arm facing inside the kayak. Did you grind the notch off? I"m trying to figure out the right way to do this since I can't figure out a way to mount it on the sidewall so that when I fit in the downrigger, the arm is positioned to the outside (to the right of the kayak).
@MooMooOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
You are right the arm has to face inside the yak. Is that going to be a problem for you? I kind of like it this way so that it guarantees that the downrigger doesn't pop out by accident when changing the angle.
@arkster003 жыл бұрын
@@MooMooOutdoors The only thing is that I can't fish with it facing inside since the weight would be in the kayak haha. But with the way the Scotty 241 mount bracket is designed, if you were to transfix the bracket on the right sidewall of the kayak, the laketroller can only be inserted with the arm facing the wrong way. If I grind off the notch, I could make it fit. But I was curious how you managed that.
@MooMooOutdoors3 жыл бұрын

Hey moo. I’m asking about a kayak. I am 17 years old 5’10” 140, pretty small dude. I fish in Alaska. I live here and will primarily be fishing in lakes and mainly in and out of secluded bays in the ocean. ( such as prince William sound). I will be trolling for salmon, jigging and bottom fishing for halibut, rockfish, and lingcod. I will definitely not kayak when the swell and chop is bad. I definitely want a motor or peddle drive. My budget is around 2500 give or take a few hundred. The kayak also needs to be relatively light because I will be car topping on my bronco as well as topping it on a c-dory and getting a kayak on that is a pain in the ocean . I also would like it to be stable because I will be spearfishing from it as well so I need to easily be able to get in and out. I like old town and what they do but I am not secluded to them. What are your thoughts on a good kayak for my style. Kayak fishing is new to me as well. Thanks! It means a lot.

Couple of questions (now that I'm thinking about getting a kayak for fishing): Have you ever flipped in the ocean/how likely is that? What's the weight/height limit on this? Is it do-able if you're 5'8" 225 lb - 6'2" 295? How long did you practice kayaking before you felt comfortable adding fishing to all of the staying-afloat activities?
@MooMooOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I have not flipped in the ocean other than while surf launching and surf landing. Flipping is not very common but it can and will happen eventually. That's why I recommend all safety gear that I mention in my safety video. This kayak, Revo 13, has max capacity of 350 lbs which means it's really made for someone 250 or less. Once you get used to the kayak after a handful of times in freshwater and after self-rescue practice, you are good to go. Check out my safety videos.

Hey Moo how well does a Kayak handle an electric trolling motor and is it even worth the effort?

Electric motor works well in the lakes but out in the Ocean it's more of an assist rather than completely relying on it.

Hey Moo, how does the c tug fit under the revo? Looking to swap from a hobie 2trax with beach wheels as I dont like flipping it after it's been rigged up
@MooMooOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
It fits great. I was hesitant to buy hobie trax for years because of flipping the kayak when it's fully loaded. However, c-tug beach wheels are not as good as trax 2-30 wheels. I think it good as small wheels. There is an adaptor for the big wheels though.
