Agree 100%. Really knowledgeable informant. I mostly fish the souther coast of Nc and south to Florida. My rule is, if it’s white capping, I don’t go. Having the proper gear and proper kayak for the situation is key. Stay safe!!!!

Nice vid. I like my yaks long and now that I'm an old and damaged man i use pontoons. And yes you can still end up in the drink. Maybe next year i won't forget to drop by at the Rock Wall Turney. I could walk over and say hi. Take care and stay safe.

I have to say the #1 most important piece of safety gear for me is a PFD...I don't fish the ocean, but lakes and rivers. I will admit I was bad about never wearing one...but almost never go out without it now...the key is to find one that fits you right and is comfortable to wear.
@MooMooOutdoorsКүн бұрын
Yes the key is the comfort. It should feel like wearing a outer layer clothing.

Great ambassador to kayak sport fishing. Nice coverage of safety and preventative danger. I love fishing my self. Hobie pa14 angler down under in Australia. Lost my hobie to fire. No one hurt. Now fishing in A seadoo fishpro trophy. Same rules apply to jetski fishing. Tight lines, safe fishing and sporting on the open waters. Enjoy your uploads.. 화이팅.....

Kayak fishing is skilled. If a man can surf the mavericks we can absolutely most certainly go kayak fishing. Never approach wakes and swells horizontal.
@MooMooOutdoorsКүн бұрын
Yes in general, you should face the wave head on. However, learning to brace/broach is a good idea when the wave hits you side ways unexpectedly

Great tips. I sunk my kayak in alligator infested waters due to a hull hatch malfunction. I was with a buddy and we had radios with us. He helped me get the water out of my hull and we made it back to shore. We were both wore out.

Hey Moo this is Martin Mansera I’m on a new iPad. . I check the ocean ,the swell the wind and I most definitely will not go out on a rough day. Plus, always wear your PFD never go alone have a VHF radio to radio for help. If need be hopefully you don’t have to use it.. plus there’s a few more safety tips but you mentioned them. Thank you. Keep making these great videos Moo 🙌🏼🤗🤙🏼🎣

kayak fishing in the ocean can be dangerous like any ocean use whether is from a boat, or in he surf. best advise: pay attention, pay attention, pay attention. and be prepared.
@JustAnMMAfan2 күн бұрын
appreciate the advice. I ordered two bilge pumps just now one for me and one for my brother we go out kayak fishing in the ocean a lot and i flipped my kayak once and he tried to help me and i accidently pulled him as well. He managed to get on his kayak and help me out but my kayak took in a lot of water and we did not have a bilge pump so i swam to the brake wall and just walked all the way back because my kayak was too heavy with water and was not stable. I told my brother to leave the kayak but he said "noway you're crazy that thing is expensive" so he tied it to his kayak and pulled my kayak to shore a very long way and from watching your video it clicked that i need those bilge pumps so thank you!
@MooMooOutdoors2 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your story. Stories like this helps people think about safety. Bilge pump came in handy for me 2 times. I was pump some water out and continue fishing and it came in handy for fellow kayaker a few times where I pumped the water out and they were able to get back to the land safely.

def great stuff Moo! Always good to consider the what can go wrong scenarios and way too many to list. Ie, I used to lanyard my poles then a surf reentry caused me to flip and those lanyards wrapped around me. Lucky to untangle but now I use foam around poles. Whatever your situation, always consider what can go wrong
@MooMooOutdoors2 күн бұрын
Yes, I try not to use lanyard/leash at all cost. I hear so many cases where people get tangled up.

We all need this. I want to buy a kayak, but am afraid of turning over. I guess start slow. Maybe lakes and river. Then short trips in calm bays Bodega and Tamales. And maybe Delta first. But it can get windy on the delta. I want a training wheel at first. Outrigger that is. Hahaha. Nice video. Nice to see, been some time
@MooMooOutdoors2 күн бұрын
Yes that's the right approach. One thing you have to be mindful in Tamales Bay is the tide. The current can rip on big tide change days.
@carlcalvin14792 күн бұрын
@MooMooOutdoors thanks. Yeah I'll start out slow. I think I've heard that before. But forgot thanks for the reminder. I haven't bought a kayak yet but leaning towards wilderness or a Hobie flipper drive. Just sold my 20' cuddy cabin. Storage was getting to expensive. Again nice to see you posting brother.
