For those wondering, James and Mike fell out so James left. That's my understanding of it and it's probably a lot more complicated than that. I miss James's style so music, it really added to the techno/edm vibe that they had going, but Ethan, the new drummer, sounds awesome and I look forward to seeing what he brings in the future

I thought he added some kind of tone and harmonics to his drumming which I hope he explores. Otherwise, the normal sounding drumming he uses about a third of the time feels out of place.

To me James did far more than offer a rhythm, every beat was complementary to the rest of the music. And just loved watching him. He seemed so into it. But what do I know, the only thing I can play is a stereo.
@AvrahamAdler12 жыл бұрын
@@aaronb483 exactly. He held the groove so that the sax’s shone and he puts in subtle tasteful syncopation when needed (like when they’re breathing).

getting sick of all the comments on Hooch's new stuff being focused on the fucking old drummer. grow up, kids. things change. just be glad the band is still together and creating INCREDIBLE sounding music, pushing the boundaries of their own style and the brasshouse genre at large. this shit sounds AMAZING and the new drummer is holding it down like a rock

Also hearing. He was just a bit spicier, but being a new drummer is of course something different than being in a band for 10 years. So let's see what the new drummer will add to the band in the future.

Its helpful when circular breathing
@kennyriley21984 жыл бұрын
Ickbarr Bigelsteine but it seems like he does it every time he plays. Is he always circular breathing?
@mystikcid4 жыл бұрын
Kenny Riley he does while he’s circular breathing but he’s not always circular breathing. He’s done it for years, I asked him one time and it’s for him to achieve a different tone set and volume. If you’re in a classical setting it’s still proper to not as it will cause you to fall out of tune, in this setting its not as big of a deal as the sax sound is being processed anyway. They play for hours a day you kind of get to just do your own techniques for a whatever suits you at that point to be honest. :)
@RdCrestdBreegull4 жыл бұрын
Christian Edward Adams I’m a sax player and I always thought puffing your cheeks was a big no-no for the reasons you stated, but also your answer makes sense. So for most people it’s probably a bad idea, but this guy is clearly some type of expert and has probably just played for so many thousands of hours that he’s developed his own style or at least a specific style for playing with this band.
@Chronic.Pivoter4 жыл бұрын
@@RdCrestdBreegull, the main reason why circular breathing's a bad idea is because it affects articulation. But I don't see why it can't be used as a special effect. Puffing cheeks is more of a no-no for trumpet players, as far as I'm aware. On the saxophone, it affects the size of the oral cavity, but there's plenty of ways to "fix" it.

I still love Moon Hooch, don't misunderstand this comment, but does it seem that this is a lot more smooth jazz than one would expect? It's a deviation from the acid sound, maybe i'm just not keeping with the musical trends.

@lazylion4203 жыл бұрын
"maybe i'm just not keeping with the musical trends." yeah or maybe their personal evolution as a band has nothing to do with your expectations? they're clearly enjoying the new direction of their sound. it has nothing to do with trends. it's the music they feel like making, from their own soul. I think it's pretty awesome. so far I would say that Moon Hooch new stuff sounds better than Too Many Zooz new stuff, for instance.
