What I love about Harrow as a villain is that when the tables are turned on him, and he's told his scales lack balance and he'll have to die, he accepts it instantly (in fact, HE says "then we must spare the world the pain I will cause"); we find a lot of times that the villain is a hypocrite when it comes to their "beliefs" that they preach to the hero, but Harrow holds true to his convictions there. It's a small moment, but it makes him infinitely more interesting to me than if he fought back or acted out when told his scales lack balance.

Ethan Hawke in an interview called his character "Saint Arthur." He was at least partly kidding, he knows Harrow is a villain, but that internal description is how Hawke figured Harrow saw himself.
@caelum9471

That's how you know the villain genuinely believes what hes doing is good. Like I can understand where Harrow and Ammit is coming from but they aren't thinking about the entire picture. I get it, if Ammit had her way, there would've never been a Hitler or a 9/11 or any of these horrible historical events, but Ammit needs to consider the possibility of change. The cure to "evil" isn't always death, not to mention Ammit's judgement in of itself is what *she* thinks is wrong. Something as simple as a child stealing candy from a store could be seen as "evil." Would she steal the soul of someone who commits suicide? What about when they put animals down who are too sick or injured and would live in pain? What about someone like the Punisher who kills people, like Ammit, but judges an individual differently than Ammit does? What if they disagree on whether or not a person should or shouldn't be killed for what they've done/are about to do?
@Pit_Wizard

What I find really interesting is that he both stays true to his convictions AND doesn't question it when his god immediately proves herself to be a complete hypocrite. Ammit apparently has no issue waiving her "judgement" when her own personal interests are on the line.

Marc was the main alter, Steven took the fear, and Jake took the beatings. It's why neither of them knew who kept getting involved and saving them with sheer brutality. Jake also has the "Boston" accent. He's the one that says "While it is tempting to accept your diagnosis, doc..." (37:18) in the last episode. He was ALSO the crazed one they never let out of the sarcophagus in Ep. 5. I'm so excited to see more of him. I love this show so much

This was a well done story. Honestly, I'd love to see more Layla/Scarlet Scarab in the future. I saw you made a face at Khonshu when he called Layla "little bug." This is a demeaning reference to "little scarab," which was what her father called her and what her superhero name is derived.

Although there hasn't been anything said about her future in the MCU, she's joining the ranks of characters like Harley Quinn, Renee Montoya and Terry McGinnis from Batman, and X-23, Phil Coulson, and Melinda May in that she's being brought over to the comics. I agree, too, that it would be great to see more of her when Moon Knight is inevitably brought back in future MCU entries

Jake Lockley was the third alter ego, the one who we only noticed after the people were dead or beaten and neither Marc or Steven know of is existence when they don't remember killing those people or beating Harrow. That third sarcopaghus in the Duat where Marc and Steven passed without opened it, it contained Jake. In the end, Khonshu honor his deal since he released Marc and Steven from being his avatar, but he didn't say anything about releasing Jake of being his avatar.

Moon Knight is a fun character in the comics. In most runs you have no idea if what is happening is real or in Mark's head or a manipulation by Khonsu. You don't figure out what is going on until the last few pages of the last issue. In one run everything that Mark went through ended up being a movie directed by Steven if I remember that right. This would be something fun to continue to see because they really leaned into the Dissociative Identity Disorder of the character and did not make fun of it. In the comics most of the heroes distrust Moon Knight because he is out of his mind. The only character Deadpool will not mess with.
@JcFerggy

My take is that Jake, the 3rd personality seen when they were on the boat in his own sarcophagus, was the personality that took the beatings from the mom. Mark says some weird things after leaving that memory. "You're not meant to see that. That's the whole point of you." But neither Mark nor Steven remember the beatings. I think Jake was a personality made specifically for the beatings, thinking he was a hardcore mobster type character. Roleplaying the beatings as torture sessions, with the goal of not talking or revealing his contacts.

Another thing I loved was Marc and Steven's interaction with Taweret. Taweret was great in this episode. Marc's mom was a cold-hearted snake. Steven calling Arthur Harrow Ned Flanders was funny. Yeah the hints were there in Ep 3 when Mark/Steven asked "Who did?" kill the 2 mercenaries before the kid fell off the cliff. Or when in episode 1, waking up with a bloody hand in the Alpine village. In the "mental hospital" scenes when Oscar Isaac is speaking with more of a New York accent and picks up the pyramid to stab, his more-deranged antics make some think it's that 3rd personality Jake. And also the sarcophagus they don't open in episode 4. Steven is the happy innocent one, Mark is the one that shoulders the guilt, and Jake might be the one that truly enjoys killing. Some theorize that while Mark created Steven to have a happy childhood, Jake was unknowingly created to take the blunt of the physical abuse from his mother (which is why Steven doesn't remember that).

Marc basically threatening himself and then punching himself in the face was also funny. On the emotional side though, Layla confronting Marc about her father and then seeing him shot really had me in the feels. At the same time, I enjoyed Layla's dynamic with Steven. It clearly differs from her current dynamic with Marc. Oscar got his real-life brother Michael on the show as a stand-in. Whenever Oscar was portraying Marc, Michael would portray Steven and vice versa. Then the post-production team worked their magic. Oscar did a lot of research going into this show. That included reading a book called A Fractured Mind. Author Robert Oxnam revealed in the book that he had eight alters living with him that he didn’t know about until he was in his 40’s. I recently got my sister to finish watching the show. I especially wanted her to watch episode 5 because I wanted her input about the show’s take on mental health. It sparked a conversation that went on for about half an hour. We talked about mental health in general because we both deal with our own struggles and know people who also struggle. She also helped me clarify who Marc was talking to when he said “I won’t give you that satisfaction.” I figured he was saying that to his father Elias because the latter wanted his son to grieve with him, but my sister said it made more sense he would be saying that to his mom Wendy. The reason why I say Marc was saying that to Elias was because even though he didn’t take part in the abuse the fact that he didn’t do anything about it makes him just as responsible as Wendy for the DID which to my understanding serves as a response to trauma or a coping mechanism. Regarding episode 6, they didn’t say it but Layla’s codename when she’s in her superhero costume is the Scarlet Scarab. Mohamed Diab’s daughter wanted to change her hairstyle because she didn’t see anyone in major media who looked like her, but now she’s proud to have her hairstyle after seeing Layla become the Scarlet Scarab. Imagine if Layla met Wanda and Sam. Scarlet Scarab meets the Scarlet Witch and gives Cap a flight for his money. And lastly, Oscar comes from a Guatemalan family. So when I saw him speaking Spanish as Jake, I freaked out with excitement and laughter because my parents are from Quetzaltenango which is in Southwestern Guatemala.

"personality" implies a personality disorder, which it isn't. DID is a form of complex PTSD developed during early childhood. Jake Lockley is an alter, same as Steven Grant, and effectively, Marc Spector. An original is ultimately due to when it develops, not really helpful, asides from what'll be put on most documents, but otherwise isn't really usable in any other context. Hecc, systems can go their entire lives not realizing they are systems.

There were several times we saw hints of Jake throughout the show. Often in an action scene, Mark/Stephen would black out and when they came to, there would be carnage around but they'd both deny that was them. And then in the psych ward when Mark freed Stephen from the sarcophagus, they were running past rooms and saw another sarcophagus with a person yelling from inside.

During the first few episodes any time reflections were present we as viewers always saw no less than three. Jake Lockley made the date in episode one as Marc would not have cheated on Leila and Steven was not aware of it. Do you remember the third sarcophagus, Marc and Steven left Jake there too scared to open it? Even when in the afterlife, Jake was the third violent one with the bruises while Marc and Steven had no injuries. Khonshu knew Marc had no idea of any other personas so he agreed to Stevens’ terms. This was one of my favorite series and loved your reactions. This series feels so different as it is a part of the horror genre, Moon Knight first appeared in a Werewolf by Night comic. I don’t recall if you already reacted to that but I hope you do it is amazing.

Addie - If you remember, Steven didn't ever 'experience' his mother being a harsh person... even though he was manifested when she took the belt and beat him. Jake was created to protect Steven by taking the beatings and leaving Steven to always believe his Mother was a good person. This is why Jake Lockley is the identity of Marc who willingly kills while Marc does so only out of necessity (the Horseman in that arena who was going to kill Layla) and of course Steven doesn't kill at all. There were clues of Jake's presence throughout the show, but unless one had read the comics it was hard to pickup. Enjoyed your reaction as always!

The father is almost as culpable as the mother. When Mark leaves home its made pretty clear that the father knows about the abuse and has done nothing. Not intervene in any major way. Not take Marc at a younger age and leave. Not get treatment for the mother. Nothing. As for when Jake was created? Pretty soon after Steven. Steven was created to totally forget the abuse. Jake was created to take the actual whipping (allowing Marc to distance himself somewhat from it).

This show was great. 😊 Addie talks a lot about how terrific Isaacs was (and rightly so) but I also really loved how they portrayed Khonshu. I also liked the little easter egg at the very end where Khonshu is wearing Steven’s white suit, which emphasizes that how we the audience perceive him is influenced by how Mark, Steven, or Jake want to perceive him.

I don't have Dissociative Identity Disorder (the disorder Marc & Steven have) but I'm very close to a few people who do. From what I understand of the disorder, this show is pretty great representation!! Obviously it's not all accurate (this is a superhero show, after all) but they treat it with respect in a way that most media really hasn't. Ever. So it's a nice change of pace!! They really dig into how respectful this portrayal was, and the comments are full of DID systems, and people close to systems, gushing about what the show means to them. The Ammit and Khonsu`s Kaiju Battle was manificient . Khonshu is the God of gaslighting. Switching between Moon Knight and Mr. Knight in the fight scenes was badass. Moon Knight, Mr. Knight, and Layla vs. Arthur Harrow were extraordinary scenes. Layla's superhero suit looked marvelous. Give Oscar Issac all the Emmy awards. I loved the limo and Khnoshu's tailor suit in easter eggs in the post-credits. This limo comes from the comics, specifically the 2014 Knights of the Moon series by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey, and Jordie Bellaire. Well, Khonshu is visiting Mr. Knight's tailor! The image of Khonshu in costume frequently appeared in Jeff Lemire and Greg Smallwood's 2016 series Moon Knight, which inspired this television series. Overall, I enjoyed the Moon Knight TV series. My favorite part of this episode was Layla rescuing the Egyptian girl, and she asked Are you an Egyptian superhero? The Layla and Taweret team-up was also excellent. Jake Lockley was giving me hit-man vibes. The shot of Moon Knight flying into the Moon was dope. Hippo!!

The show always hinted at the third identity. Jake killed the people in episode 1. He killed the three thugs in Episode 3. He is the one who took down Harrow and his men at the end of 6. The number "3" was all throughout the show. Yes, Marc died and the "Dr's Office" was his organizing principal. Everything else was the afterlife. The character of Moon Knight has always played with the mental illness and questioned what is real. Going forward, the character is now with Jake and Khonshu. Marc and Steven are going to have to learn about Jake and the three will have to come together. Its an amazingly written show and I love the fact that it is so contained and separate from everything else in the MCU.

It’s trash asf, it has horrible acting and the writing is some of the worse in the MCU. Below average. Intead of wasting time with that shit it would be better if she watched Daredevil, a real masterpiece.

In the comics, Madripoor has a big connection to one other Marvel character you've been watching a bit of lately... Wolverine. It's often featured in his stories and a place where he spent a lot of time, particularly in the 80s. When it was first introduced in the MCU, a lot of people got excited for its possible X-Men connections and hinting at a possible MCU Wolverine.

I'm betting Jake was created during the "wet work" he did as a mercenary. I'm betting Bushman couldn't understand why Marc was troubled by killing because he was always so willing as Jake.

Yep, that third personality was whenever they both forgot. And remember early in the afterlife/asylum as they were looking for memories how there was a door with another shaking sarcophagus? Neither of them wanted to look at it and they just closed the door. There was Jake.

Arthur explains about how he really enjoyed being Konshu's avatar and hurting people. Both Steven and Marc dont want to be his avatar. But now there's Jake. Could he be a new dissociate identity to be one who does like it? Hmmm..... Fun fact: in the comics, Marc's DID splits even further. His personalities include other Marvel characters, such as Captain America, Wolverine, and Spider-Man (Marc is the living embodiment of "What would X do?"). He has so many personalities he can flick between, making him one of 3 known people Taskmaster can never fight against (the other two being Deadpool and Shang-Chi).

In my opinion Jake was created the same day Steven was created, at the very moment that his mom starts beating him… This is because Marc says he creates Steven to take the beatings, but Steven doesn’t remember that… he remembers a good mom. It was Jake all along that actually took the beatings.

I cried hard in ep 5. Such a good original show. Not like the other marvel shows now and days which I think in all honesty are just crap. I don’t watch marvel really anymore, but I will watch a second season of moon knight! Also Oscar Isaac is SOOOOOO talented.

When this showed up in my queue, I immediately thought, “Oh, Addie’s gonna cry!” Most people seem to like this show a lot, the ending left much to be desired. Most of us were aware of the 3rd personality and waited to see Jake the whole show. As well, we were told this may be a one season deal, and with that understanding, there weren’t nearly enough answers to the load of questions. Also Konchu called Layla “little bug”, because she’s the Scarlet Scarab.

In Marc's memory of his mother's funeral, you can see the loathing he has for his father. He blamed himself for what happened to his brother, and so did his mother. His father, on the other hand, didn't do much of anything to get his wife and son the help they desperately needed. Marc created Steven, the scholar who has a great relationship with his mother, to escape the verbal and physical abuse that was placed on him. He likely would've appreciated his father coming to his rescue and reassuring him that what happened wasn't his fault. As for all the personalities, here is my basic run down. Marc is the soldier willing to what he must to protect people. Steven is the scholar who can solve all the puzzles. Jake is the thug. Jake does the things that Marc and Steven don't need to know about yet.

Steven compensates worst situations that Mark's experiencing as defense mechanism against pain and suffering. The show, similar to WandaVision, is heartbreaking and discombobulating. p.s. Khonshu is the example of Gods in MCU, egomaniac and conceited. also next, there are various after-life in next projects as Tawaret said

Real glad you enjoyed it! Moon Knight is def my favorite MCU show, it's so different and heartfelt and funny to watch. Btw Jake makes lots of appearances throughout the show and it's a lot of fun looking for all the hints and signs! There are obvious signs like where Marc and Steven act very confused not knowing what just happened. Beyond that though if you look closely throughout the show you'll see neat little hints and signs of Jake. The example in episode 1 is a small one; you can see in Steven's reflection in the glass of an exhibit that he has 2 reflections, hinting that Marc and Steven aren't the only ones. The most obvious example though is in episode 5 and it's actually really easy to miss! In the psychiatrist scenes, Marc in all the scenes with a bandage on his nose is very clearly Jake; he speaks and acts very differently to Marc and Steven, he's much more hostile. There's hints in each episode which makes a rewatch fun.
