@@AndrewJamison79 In DID all distinct personalities are alters. Marc is ALSO considered an alter. He is just an alter who identifies with the bodys' birth name and apperance. Not all DID systems have an alter like that. There is no "original personality" because the trauma that causes DID happened before the age of 9 when a child's personality fully solidifies. DID systems like to use this to explain it. " If you have a glass bowl and shatter it...which piece is the original bowl?" Or " which slice of orange is the original orange?" There answer is it doesn't exist because they are parts of a whole. All alters are equally real people. Systems work in the same way under the Theory of Structural Dissociation. That theory is the current (and most popular) explaination for how DID is formed. The term you are looking for is host. Marc is the host of the system in the comics ( though seemingly recently Steven took up the role of host in the show) the one who is in control of the body the most and does day-to-day stuff. Since Marc had a job and wife he was the host. But in the show, Steven seems to be the host because he was in control for months and had a job and wasn't experiencing blackouts during the day because he was safe and hidden from Harrow. So he was switching less...but then his life is now in danger so Marc has needed to be in control of the body even during the day which causes time gaps and distresses Steven bc he doesn't know they have DID.
@theobsessor112942 жыл бұрын
Steven, or rather ‘Marc’ suffers from Disassociation Identity Disorder, or DID. They did a good job of portraying it so far, as it’s not unusual for the multiple personalities, or “Alters” to not remember what the others did, as memories do not transfer between personalities. That’s why some people with DID are misdiagnosed as sleep walkers or schizophrenics. People can have anywhere from 2 to dozens of personalities per person. The personalities are each born from traumatic circumstances, as a way to cope with the situation they find themselves in. Some can have alters that are childlike, formed when they were children and frozen in terms of mental age. Some people have older alters, fantasy alters (ghosts from attempted suicide, animal personalities from pretending to be animals to cope from trauma, etc) some people even have fictional characters as alters! The brain is incredible in the ways it will adapt and reshape itself to maintain its own sanity and protect you!
@FemboiMars2 жыл бұрын
I loved what you were saying until the last sentence. The adaptations you have described do not "maintain it's own sanity", they are in fact categorically by definition the opposite. Not sane at all. Dangerous to pretend otherwise. Medication and routine are EXTREMELY important to people with personality disorders, ESPECIALLY DID.
@xShadow_God2 жыл бұрын
@@FemboiMars Medicines didn't exist for a long time, you have to keep the entirety of humanity in context. Pre-historic people couldn't take meds to help with trauma. So the brain had to create ways for these people to cope with their trauma. PTSD is condition that comes from the brain adapting to new experiences. PTSD made sense in ancient humans, it gave them a survival edge. Now it does the opposite, and it will take many more generations for the brain to re-adapt to our modern environment. It's likely the same for DID. In our evolutionary past it might have given people a survival edge, but no longer helps in our modern world. Our current lifestyles are radically different than most humans of the past, you cannot overstate how far we have come as a species.

The most interesting thing about how Ammit judges people is that from our perspective we don't know how she is able to determine what will actually be with permanence because in our minds we define ourselves by the idea that we're living our lives a choice at a time and at each choice we have the option to go in different directions that aren't known until they happen. BUT try to imagine that Ammit has the power to SHOW YOU that she is able to know what someone will do in the future with 100% accuracy (think Minority Report); would you then be so against her methodology knowing that she could, in fact, prevent atrocities from ever coming into being by snuffing out the root cause beforehand? The idea then spirals down many layers of thinking on the matter and most people will default back to their own moral beliefs as Steven did because the idea of judging others in such a way of course opens you up to being judged in that same way.

I really like how the show is playing with the arguments of morality and free will. Like Arthur Harrow said Amit would "remove the choice of evil" and by killing a person even if it is 30 years until their supposed evil deed, she clearly doesn't believe in free will or the ability to choose another path. And then of course the good old, if you could kill baby Hitler.... would you?
@calibadgerdude60822 жыл бұрын
It really is an interesting philosophical question. Is “good” even a virtue if there is no choice to NOT be good? Can one even exist without the other? One could argue that free will and choice are simply illusions, but that defeats the purpose of having any morality at all, which is contradictory to Ammit’s stated goals of punishing those who would do evil. If there is no choice, than there can be no morality. I think we’re going to find that Ammit has an entirely different goal or motivation than what Harrow is preaching, and he may not even be aware of her true aims. It’ll likely tie into the whole chaos vs order conflict that’s happening in the MCU multiverse in this phase. “There’s chaos in you…”

The CGI that caught many peoples eyes was mainly just the some of the car crashes in the first episode. They were probably the least important (story wise) and put off for last. Much CGI issues come down too time constraints. So big fights Are worked on first by larger teams sometimes.
