Player 001 (the frontman) is a previous winner. So the story he was telling Gi-Hun about his wife needing a donation and all that was true. That can be confirmed in the first episode of season 2 when the detective and his mom are speaking about In-Ho’s (player 001 aka frontman) wife dying cause she couldn’t get a donation, even though In-Ho donated his kidney for the detective

Him and Gi Hun are extremely similar, too. Frontman probably joined the games to make money to help his wife who had health complications. Gi Hun also wanted to make money to help his mom who also had health complications. I would suspect that Frontman's wife died while he was at the games, which is just my assumption based on the timeline they give us unless I missed it, and Gi Hun's mother died while he was at the games as well. And after their time in the games, both of them decided to go back, albeit for different reasons.

Love how different your reactions to the second game is, Steven laughing and smiling, while Nikki is anxious and horrified. But what makes me the most sad about the first two teams is that, with the X and O badges, you can see which players didn't want to continue and sadly, they ended up dying. For example: The one team that almost got to the fifth minigame had 4 players that voted X.

@@madelinegarber7860 even if I used to be under pressure during the first season, even if it was random characters and not the main ones I gotta admit I was like Nikki, I was so terribly sorry for them but that's the purpose of this show, they want people to realize how terrible and inhuman are this criminal organization, the fact there are X players who died during these games meanwhile they wanted to leave that's truly messed up. I know already Nikki is not ready for the third game which is for me the most stressful and anxious one on all games of this show

This episode convinced me that this season is better than the first. I understand why some disagree, but the nuance and detail added to the story as a whole, is unmatched. Instead of shoving concepts of greed and hubris onto our screens with obvious metaphors like gaudy-looking Americans, we are now presented with the internal conflict of these characters. Which is what drives these games, and their creators. The acting is incredible and every scene feels intentional. I can't wait to see both of your thoughts on the rest of the season!

11:50 The fact is, every or most men in the games do have some minimal or military training. South Korea actually has a mandatory draft for men. It kind of also makes sense when you realize why there are so many squid game minions (the triangles) that have a lot of experience using weapons and many were probably scouted and drafted by the Front Man into their ranks. It's because South Korea is constantly preparing for a possible invasion from North Korea so they have all the men ready for war at any moment. Women can also serve in the military too but it's voluntary for them. A large majority of the characters in this show are a mix of trained professionals who can still kickass like Jang Geum-ja (badass mom who's a korean war veteran) and people who served their minimum two years and then chose to let their skills diminish after they were done with service. I willing to venture a guess that's why Thanos and his buddy lost to the Front Man kicking their asses. Thanos, if he even did do his mandatory military service or somehow avoided or got around doing it let his fighting skills stagnate... but of course, we know that the Front Man is an experienced and deadly killer so there was no chance in hell he was winning the fight.

The Gong-gi (5 Stones) is like this: - Level 1 The player throws the pieces onto the playing area and then picks one piece to throw in the air. While in the air, the player picks up another piece from the playing area and then catches the piece they threw in the air before it falls back to the playing area. The player repeats these steps until all the pieces have been caught. - Level 2 The pieces are once again thrown onto the playing area and the player picks one piece to throw into the air. They will then repeat the same steps as for Level 1, except for the change that they will pick up the remaining pieces two at the time instead of just one. -Level 3 For this level the player will repeat the steps of the previous levels, but this time the pieces will be picked up once in a cluster of three and the rest one at a time. -Level 4 This time the player will keep all the pieces in their hand while they throw the first piece in the air. The player then places the rest of the pieces on the playing area before catching the thrown piece. The player will then throw the stone back into the air, pick up the cluster of four that’s still on the playing area and then again catch the piece in the air. -Level 5 The player will, for this level, throw all the pieces into the air, then flip their hand over and catch as many pieces as possible on the back of their hand. The player then throws the pieces they caught back into the air from the back of their hand and catches as many as possible in their hand. and so on until you catch all five. then you must trow all 5 and catch them. For this level, there are some tricks that can be made (such as Dragon and Clap Toss) but tricks are not allowed in official game play. -Dragon While the stones are in the air, the player turns their hand so the back faces upwards, catches several stones, then turns their hand with the palm up, and catches the stones that are left over. - Clap Toss While the stones are in the air, the player claps their hand before catching the stones.

Nikki’s right about the money going to the families, BUT that was only in the 1st season. Back before the first game in season 2 the rules changed to where now the money will get evenly split between the remaining people if enough people vote to leave the game.

Season 1 had different rules were as if you die and they choose to vote to end the games then all of the money would be divided up amongst the dead players families. Season 2 changed that rule, so if they vote to end then the money is divided up amongst everyone who leaves the games. So there is no way that money goes to dead players families

Wow I was wrong in the earlier episode when I suggested the sniper hit him in the femoral for sadistic reasons: I forgot all about the organ harvesting side plot. Thematically, the cliffhanger was exactly in line with last season's episode when they were preparing for the tug 'o war -- two very different but underdog teams.

The director revealed that originally the time limit was 10 minutes but during test runs, most players were able to complete the games under 5 minutes so it was changed.

I did not know the controversy about the guy that plays Thanos, Apparently some years ago he got in trouble in South Korea for smoking Weed which over there it's a big crime to do drugs so they went hard on this guy on the internet, He even tried to self-delete himself by overdosing And after he survived they still kept harassing him and pushing him towards doing something like that to himself. In South Korea they look down upon drug use Worse than if somebody commits a violent crime or sexual assault. So their society is kind of messed up in a way.

I'm also European, and we do play some of these games, but with different names and stuff. For instance I used to play our version of Ddakji a lot in school, also the spinning top and the hacky sack or jeji. And gonggi is basically knucklebones , which has been a thing since the Roman empire.
