Moon Knight: Every Egyptian God Ranked By Power

Thor: Love and Thunder’s teaser trailer has got a lot of us here at CBR thinking about Gods as of late. And Moon Knight has us thinking more specifically about the Egyptian Gods. So I figured now would be a good time to explore a few members of that ancient Pantheon, and take a look at how their comic versions, have impacted events on the page over the years.
So here we go, in this video I’m not gonna look at all the Egyptian gods, but I will tell you about a handful of the most noteworthy, of the most powerful. So without any further ado, let’s go ahead and dive right into it.

Luna was the name of the Roman variant of the Greek goddess Selene (goddess of the moon before Artemis). The term lunar to refer to the moon came from her, which is why the moon is often depicted in modern media as female. The term of lunacy came from the monthly ‘time’ for women as it’s effects were thought to cause mental illness (known as ‘wandering womb syndrome’) and since periods often align with lunar cycles, the moon became associated with mental illness. Khonshu became the god of mental illness due to his association with the moon when Egypt came in contact with Rome. As for Rome itself, Dionysus is the god of madness due to alcohol’s effect on people.

@@ediearcher7224 There was also a lot of interaction between Greek and Egyptian mythology. in Greek Myth it was said that all of the Gods bar Zues fled to Egypt when Tython attacked Olympus, and they hid there in the form of animals, associating them with Egyptian gods. After Alexander the Great became pharaoh, both pantheons were worshiped and often merged, so the lore of different gods mixed together.

Claification: Anubis is the god of death Osiris is the god of THE DEAD. You see the same thing in Greek myth with Thanatos vs Hades. The former, in both cases, over sees the process of dying The latter rules over the dead after that process is complete. Think of Anubis and Thnatos as more like the Grim Reaper, than as teh rulers of the underworld

Horus' best symbol is his eye made of moonlight, the eye of Horus. Horus originally was not the son of Isis and Osiris, he was the son of Geb and Nut. The reason for being the son of the first pair was because the form he took in a generation in Ancient Eygpt, Osiris and Isis took the form of a married couple and Horus took form of their son, thus earning the name Horus the Child.

Well, yes and no. There are/were 2 Horus in Egyptian mythology. There's Horus the Elder, to whom you're referencing with the son of Geb and Nut, which would make him a brother to Osiris, Isis, Set and Nephtys. And there's Horus the Young, most commonly known as -the Horus everybody knows-.

Egyptian like greeks like romans like Vikngs all adapted their religions based on the people they conquored. They did this to try and show commonality between each others worshipping practices. So most gods have been gods of multiple things depending the point of history you read from. But from what i know you are right. Anubis is about the travel of the departed. The burrial. Mummification and their ultimate decision. But osirius was the god of those that moved over sucessfully.

The Ancient Egyptians are actually talking about their Ancestors that they defied. They were very important individuals during life and they deified them after death. Just like in Catholicism when certain people become Saints. No supernatural nonsense.

2:23 Anubis is my main favorite god in the Egyptian mythology. But the only difference is that in the marvel universe and specially in the comics he is not a god in the sense of omnipotence or omniscience. It is true that he has enhanced strength and many other powers that a god would have, but the thing here is that he doesn't outmatch Marvel's mightiest heroes or even cosmic entities. As a fact the first time that Anubis appeared was in a comic starring Hellstrom, known as the son of Satan, who was involved in a crossroads in which he had to move to his dimension to face him.

Would it be possible that the head of the panther tribe used to be the avatar of Bast but the god knowing that he/she was in trouble (see all the statues of gods in the pyramid during Moon Knight) showed the head of the tribe the location of the heart shaped herb to provide them the ability to defend themselves in her absense.

From what i know, Anubis is god of funerals and mummification as well as the guide for the soul who passes away which is on similar pashion with charon from greek mythology with the only difference is that charon is not a god, while Osiris is a god of underworld is self just like hades who protect the underworld and kept the soul of the death. But that is what i know from the book, any expert who know more than me please feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

Anubis use to be the God of the underworld like hades, devil, etc. But when Osiris was killed horribly by his brother set there father Ra made Osiris the god of the underworld for what happen to him. Anubis is the God of death and people souls basically. Him and Osiris kinda share that role, but Osiris definitely rules the underworld now. Anubis is still one of the most powerful and has the power to raise the dead and much other things! The "Gods" that egyptologists talk about are referring to the Ancient Egyptians ancestors. Nothing supernatural about them. They were very important people during their life and they were deified after death. Same thing as Catholicism when certain people become Saints after death.

I'd like to think of it like this. Osiris is the god of the dead. Like the dead people. Since he was once king of the gods too, he sort of ruled over egypt. kinda. But when set killed him by tricking him into entering a sarcophagus that would kill him and then resurrected with blue skin, he now rules over the dead. Anubis, on the other hand, is the god of death, like the concept of death.

Set isn't the serpent god though he fights a serpent. He actually protects the solar barge on its journey through the afterlife by defending Ra from a serpent of chaos. Can't recall the name. He is actually the god of storms and thunder. Also he is known as Evil Day.

Set has a lot of names and titles-- "Apocalypse" or "Evil Day" is just one of many. Much like the Christian analog, it's the final day/judgement of the universe/purification of souls kinda deal. Set is also like the Vedic Shiva in the sense that he is the destroyer so that new things can be formed (anciently identified with both Rudra and Reshep). He perpetually gives his life to kill the worm A/pep to save creation and rises back up due to the tears of his wife, Nebt Het (Pyramid Texts, where he's addressed as "The Son of Nut") as he can't bear her pain. His given name is a play on Setesh-- the egyptian word for "Dazzling" and the onomatopoeic description of lightning/thunder-- Setekh.

Anubis became a guide to the underworld and part of the ceremony rights when the Pharoah was being mummified, since the jackel was near cemetery and all that's in loose terms. Osiris was murdered by set and Isis and her sister went to look for his body parts and found everyone except one and Isis breathed life back into him and became the king of the underworld hence Anubis got demoted one step down.
