Moonbyul was young; she even admit that when she was young, her voice was much higher and as she gotten older, she tone slowly sets in to the ones we known. It has been noticeable from Peppermint Chocolate. Also with the songs. First one, Don't Be Happy, the song is more known to be varied; one idea is the song being about a crush that have pulled them along and make them think it was a solid relationship, hence from that, they don't want the old crush happy for how much they made them sad and worse still kept them around to call them friends. Or about a relationship that the other side taken for granted and broken up, and how they would shown more towards the other. The male singer was actually Bumkey, the one you seen earlier with bit of credit like showing in Mr. Ambiguous. I recommend on your own time to listen to the full song where Bumkey is more in the song. I can send you to a good lyric video if you want to get a fair idea of the song. For Peppermint Chocolate, the male singers are K. Will and Whee-Sung. Also.. in Mr. Ambiguous... With the part where they are crying. The girls thought of it to be real while the whole staff knows it to be a prank. The best idea of what the prank is like is BTS prank with Jungkook when he was crying and being scolded heavily. ... Yeah, that kind of prank.

You aren't wrong, in Peppermint Chocolate, Byul's voice does sound higher. They tried to make her rap (and sing) an octave higher, because they thought her natural voice was too deep. Also you are hearing Hwa Sa in there too, because in their early music, Hwa Sa rapped a lot more. So there was a mix of the 2 of them during the rap section. Thankfully Byul decided she wasn't going to keep doing it, and just went with her natural voice, and we are all happy that she did. I love this song, but the video has so much wrong with it, like Hwa Sa being "white washed", as well as they made her wear glasses, because her eyes weren't "round enough", so they tried to hide them behind those huge sunglasses :( It's such a shame all of the terrible things they did to her, because they thought she was "ugly", and didn't fit the beauty standards. It makes me sick. She is literally one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Actually, Mr. Ambiguous is totally their style, they LOVE doing the jazzy, R&B genre as you will see when you listen to Piano Man (the next song after Mr. Ambiguous), as well as Gentleman, Ahh Oop, NoNoNo, and so many of their b-sides have a throw back feel to this sound. A lot of MooMoos love it, as do I. It's definitely THEM, and they weren't forced into it, I can promise you that. The only reason they changed is because the younger listeners didn't care for it, so they changed. I truly interesting thing for you, is that "Mr. Ambiguous" was actually written for Quincy Jones (if you don't know who he is, Google search him). BUT interestingly, the song's original name was MAMAMOO, and our beloved Mamamoo wasn't named yet, and hadn't debuted yet. They performed the song for him (and others). He didn't decide to go with the song, but loved them, and their performance so much that he had them come and perform for him again, because they were that Amazing. As for the song, it was rewritten, the name changed to "Mr. Ambiguous" and the group was named Mamamoo.

At the start of their career (in these 3 videos), Mamamoo did a lot of collaborations with larger artists as they were the first group to debut from their company so needed any hype around their debut that they could get. They have less lines cause they're pre-debut idols working with seniors.

Mamamoos pre deput Videos are safer than everything after Mr Ambiguous (official deput). Moonbyul made the choreography for Mr Ambiguous so she told them to bend over 😂 They choreographed everthing themselves before Gogobebe (2019). RBW put Byul in dresses and other more feminine clothes a lot at the beginning, sometimes you can see how awkward she is in them. I think they stopped around decalcomanie

Solar liked it so much that she asked to swap with Moonbyul, and the dress that Moonbyul chose to swap with was the now Iconic shuttlecock dress (originally part of Solar's outfit choice). 😌

Please do part 2!!! Piano Man is one of my fave title tracks! And Um Oh Ah Yeah is basically Mamamoo's Anthem song ;o; Honestly your comment about how "you can have a least favorite track but all of their songs are bops" is so true... and there are so few I actually would put in the bottom drawer... like... ma'ams know how to make MUSIC. I'm laughing so loud at you asking who told them to bend over... BECAUSE IT WAS ACTUALLY MOONBYUL, at the beginning she used to choreograph their performances, and they still did choreograph their own stuff until GOGOBEBE - if I remember correctly. The thing about Moonbyul is that at the beginning she did have to dress more feminine, it's sth she's talked about many times - it was uncomfortable and honestly a struggle... her tone of voice as well, they tried to make her use a higher tone in the beginning... and there are even some songs from the start of their careers in which she doesn't even get lines, and I really mean 0 LINES... sorry, it's just a sore topic. Byul also was told not to smile in public among other things, because of her dimples... it's really- ugh. Hwasa faced a lot of hate at the beginning, and the CEO's tried to disguise some of her features... like her skin tone, the shape of her eyes... and even simpler stuff like you may notice that in two of those videos they tried to cover her hair because she had cut it "too" short, so she used loads of hats in the beginning. Appearance/Behaviour wise Solar and Wheein didn't have as much problem because they already had more "conventional" charms (Byul was too boyish, Hwasa too provocative), despite the fact all of them don't fit Koreas "standard" of beauty... All these things happen to all idols in some way, but it's more flashed out with the girls because they've always been open for conversations and very straight forward with the fandom... All of the girls were thankfully able to flourish through the years, and have been able to present themselves more freely. I'm actually unable to watch the Peppermint MV because I just... yeah, I get you. Incredible that every time sth like that happens it is for an unecessary reason that would add NOTHING to the plot... I like the new version of the song tho, from the I SAY MAMAMOO album, with Byul's actual tone of voice ;o; Please continue watching their discography, if there's one thing moos love is to accompany someone getting to know the girls

RBW was(and still is!) an idol training academy before debuting Mamamoo and the CEOs know a lot of famous people. In K-Pop it's not usual for more famous idols to appear in a rookie group's song or for pre-debut or rookie idols to appear in their senior's videos. It's more subtle in 4th gen but it's still happening. Mamamoo does sound a bit different in these videos but you should know that they were 18, 19, 21, and 23 at the time and are now 27, 28, 30, and 32. Moonbyul in particular was going through creative growing pains as she adjusted to the role of rapper. At that time girl group rappers were simply not taken seriously and tended to sound more cute in their delivery. Moreover, Hwasa was more experienced at rap than her and actually already featured on another artists song as a rapper before she even signed at RBW. But the company wanted Moonbyul to be the group's rapper and so she had to grow into the position. There's a 2021 version of Peppermint Chocolate with an MV that you might be interested in because Solar and Wheein sound more...like Mamamoo's Solar and Wheein and not like the cute rookies in the original. I started listening to Mamamoo in 2018, the beginning of 4 Seasons era, and tbh it was a really iconic era. But I do actually enjoy hearing their music from before then. In fact, Pink Funky is my favorite mini album and it's their best mini IMO. But I do understand why other people might not vibe with it as much. There are three distinct groups of Moo Moos: pre 4 Seasons, 4 Seasons, and post Hip/Queendom. Each group has their own view of Mamamoo as group, what they sound like, and who they are as individuals. I'm saying this because sometimes the first two groups can be rather mean towards newer Moo Moos for thinking differently about Mamamoo and with their world tour coming up we need to convince more people to go see them, not scare people away. 😂

I love these songs, Peppermint chocolate and Dont be happy are pre-debut songs released before the debut mr ambiguous. All of these have a 2021 version just MMM not the Bumkey or the others are bad, lol I watched their 2021 live streamed concert where they reprised the dont be happy MV live, WheeSun doing that in their late 20s were even hotter than their early 20s doing this. amusing personally, I looked at my Itunes top 25 Most Picked songs and the 2021 version of peppermint chocolate is #1, so I guess it must be my favorite mmm song. The prank was cruel and there are other times they cry on stage, in this case the woman is a very famous singer, actress and producer so her dressing them down was a shock, nasty prank to do to these girls on their first official MV. The other two are in the top 10. Mamamoo is the best. the unofficial mmm subunits are combos of their names Wheesun, MoonSun, Wheesa for example. Also Wheein and Solar(my bias forever) are also known as the Angel Line and Hwasa and Moonbyul are the Rapper line. But this year the official Mamamoo subunit is Mamamoo+ which is just Moonbyul and Solar with the + being other artists. They released a debut single months ago a mini album a few weeks ago. You should check out the Mamamoo+ songs as well

During Mamamoo pre debut and for while they tried so hard make them conform to kpop stereotypical girl group standards at the time. They'd do anything from painting Hwasa white to forcing Byul to rap a higher tone and wear uncomfortable things to make her more "feminine". They covered up Hwasa's face in so many ways bc she was considered "ugly", and even told Moonbyul not to smile bc she has a nose dimple and they decided it was unattractive. They had to work really hard to get the respect they needed in order to present themselves on their own terms. Btw.. Mr Ambiguous was actually their official debut. The funniest thing is that it was coreographed by themselves, mostly Moonbyul, so you can thank her for that too. The videos you watched before were promotional pre debut collabs with known artists.

To answer your question about the whole section in Mr. Ambiguous and whether or not it was fake, it was all real. The company decided to prank them so they brought Baek Z young in (who is a very renowned and well known vocalist in SK) to help pull off the prank. That’s why the girls were so surprised and why her comments seemed to effect them the way they did. Because it was THE Baek Z Young criticizing them.

Wow! Really early material. No wonder you are confused. It is probably best and easier to put these to bed as such and move on. Piano Man, Um Oh Ah Yeah and Decalcomania, will make an excellent Part Two. Piano Man has the retro feel of Mr Ambigious and has an excellent MV. Um Oh Ah Yeah is such a fun MV,, You will be amazed at their looks. Decalcomania, is complex You could probably make a thirty minute plus video on this song and MV alone. This description will help you without spoiling anything. The video starts off with a completely different song to Decalcomania, for a short while. Once the hand clapping starts, that is the song. The opening track is used later in the video but again the song returns after a while. Very confusing for a first watch. Great to watch you reacting in your wonderful way to Mamamoo music videos. Much more enjoyable for the viewer than the simp compilation type efforts, in my view. Please source videos from Mamamoo's official KZbin channel as the MV's all have English sub titles.

I guess you have not been on YT for very long or you have ADD so you don't know how this works. On KZbin specifically (not sure if this is how it works for other platforms), audience participation adds to the algorithm. A creator's content will get spread around more if their viewers actually interact with them and each other. Telling Kianna to research it herself is first off VERY RUDE of you and second, it would not help the algorithm at all.
