The parts situation is absolutely becoming a crime cartel. Not just bikes either. I read yesterday that some manufacturers are only producing replacement parts for the length of the warranty. I follow a lot of auto repair channels also and parts for 10 year old trucks are unobtanium. Congrats on finding a good replacement pump at a fair price. Great repair video Del and Penny !!! Thanks and best wishes. ❤👍👍

Thanks Rick, that's interesting to hear! You're not wrong about prices though, everything at a premium these days... if you can even get them, like you say! We surely did have a lucky break finding this one for this bike, a bit of good luck there! Have a fantastic weekend Rick and thanks for all your kind support, D&Px

Now you’ve got a satisfactory replacement pump it would be good to see if you can repair the old one to full working condition. It could be a significant help for owners to keep older Busas running in the future.

Hiya Penny and Del - great video! Nice bit of luck finding a secondhand one so close... and an excellent job between this video and the last covering the disassembly and repair. Thanks for all that you do, dear friends - your content is valued and much appreciated. Take care, be well, ride safe... and enjoy the weekend!

Well found! Scary that such things are so scarce and outrageously expensive nowadays. It's depressing that simple little items can have the potential to ruin a project, or make someone give up before even starting, due to a surprise lack of funds relating to a part you would never think of as so difficult to source. Then you start imagining of all the machines that were perfect except for a tiny thing, that went off to the crusher. Makes me sad to think of, sigh.
@Moonfleet413 ай бұрын
Yeah maybe, it's easy to think that way, and maybe it's the Japanese mentaily to make entire motorcycles almost totally obsolete in just a few years the parts supply will always be a problem... something that Harley Davidson is so often criticised for is making bikes that never advance or update.. yet they have parts available today for bikes that are 25 years old, on the shelf, namely because those parts are still in use today on the current bikes, meaning we can fix them and keep them on the road rather than in the crusher.. It costs far more "footprint" to make a new motorcycle than to keep a few parts in production.. i hope the carbon zero lobby wake up to this some day !
@andrewgent58873 ай бұрын
As these components become more unobtanium there has to be a pocket friendly solution. It's a fuel pump for a fuel injected four cylinder petrol engine and there are lots of these things about, if push comes to shove and in order to keep these "old modern" bikes viable it must be possible to modify the pump from another bike or car to do the job. ....food for thought!
@Moonfleet413 ай бұрын
If you know them, the company TTS make after market uprated fuel pumps for these, very expensive of course, and many of the "knockoff" brands offer options.. and i guess you could trust them if you wished... but for me, after 40 years at this, ive learned that much of the time the OEM stuff is the best alternative, on the balance of reliability and economy they usually win.. and yes, perhaps a pump from a different bike could be pressed into use, as long as it had the same flow rate, why not..

I’m not joking, my jaw dropped when you started reeling off the prices. Yet another reason why I’m seriously considering leaving biking behind I’m afraid, it’s all got just stupidly expensive. Maybe I’ll just get a little run around and do all the work myself.

The fuel pump is very common used on many things on Ebay or Amazon they are only about $30.00 US dollars it looks to be the same one used in my 2006 softail

I'm sure you've heard,the are replacement pump motors from cars.I friend of mine with the same issue but with in-tank pump (models from 2000 onwards) used a motor from VAG car (Seat Ibiza 2004) which costs about 50 quid...If you research (mainly) USA Hayabusa forums,you will sure find a cheap replacement procedure for all parts,motor,filters etc :)

Parts are a scandalous price, just spent 14 months giving a lot of tlc to a gen 1 ZX12R, ended up having to get bits from Japan, USA, Canada, Germany and Holland. Here in the UK most were an uneconomic proposition, except for DK and SBC in Edinburgh who were brilliant. Painful innit ? The old Busa sounds nice though 👌

Sold 1 set. A guy used 2x sets to make 1x good set of carbs, so I have bits left over, if I need them. But... xj900s carb sets are just going up and up and up in price and are becoming more and more like rocking horse s....spit! lol

We all feel your pain Del, between price gouging and shipping costs spare parts have almost doubled the past two years, I run a Mikuni HSR on my 1999 FXDX and found their genuine parts reasonably priced, maybe a carb conversion will be the only option for the future?, I've only heard of later tank swaps on Busa's to have the internal pump but I understand why you wouldn't want to it.

Del I hear what you’re saying about prices, I support a 2009 Indian chief from a little company called Kings Mountain. There was only 360 of them made in three years all handcrafted if you need a part, be willing to give up your first born for it and there is no aftermarket. dealerships won’t even work on them anymore.
@Moonfleet413 ай бұрын
Didn't know that, were those models the rebirth of Indian before what it is now?... if so, surely the modern Indian dealers would help.?!

That's what I feared. Able to get replacement parts. I encountered the same thing a while back. Prices are ridiculous. Here in the USA, eBay is sometimes the last option to get working parts. You're just lucky the guy was reasonable with his. Amazon sometimes has what I need. I'm not too fond of after-market but what choice?? Nice videos, thanks for sharing.

Hey Del. Was there no aftermarket retrofits alternatives that were out there? Plus I’m just gonna go ahead and say it 700+ bucks for a new old stock fuel pump?! I thought parts like that were supposed to get cheaper as they got older or at the very least if it is more expensive then it should be way more efficient than the original.
@Moonfleet413 ай бұрын
Sadly while that may be logical, it's not so.. old stock parts are therefore rare, and that makes them valuable, Also, there are indeed aftermarket alternatives, but they are high performance upgraded items for tuning, so in effect "better" than the OEM, and therefore, once again, more valuable..!
