Come on Del what was the point . 10 mins of fast forward riding . Throw the hose on and bleed it . You keep saying you want to educate the young un's so why didn't you talk a bit about clutch fluid properties and mention to never shake the bottle . Don't keep saying I'm experienced and can guess torque settings do it right and show people or don't do it at all
@wolco003
@wolco003 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment on the fluid, but I dug the video! The explanation of the soft washers giving and then snugging up made great sense regarding torque as well. Put plugs in my truck tonight and felt the same...I heard Delboy telling me not to swing on it like a gibbon as I palmed it in and gave it a little wrist...Fast forward is always there...chillax dude! And bust out the torque wrench when needed!
@HalfdeadRider
@HalfdeadRider 5 жыл бұрын
When you are experienced you know what nuts and bolts are essential to torque up and ones that are not. Some need torquing to make sure you don't over tighten others to make sure they are tight enough, these can't really be over tightened easily so they are easy to tighten more than enough without a torque wrench, without issue. I bet if he checked the torque setting and tested it, it would be fine, they won't have a very high setting. He also basically said, if you are not experienced always check the torque settings and use a torque wrench. George, it does not always work in a way that can be tested like that. Whenever I used to do up wheel nuts (on a car) I would always tighten them then go around with the torque wrench and they would always be tight enough. Wheels are obviously the most essential, so I always check them still. I must have "the feel" I've never torqued a sump plug on cars or bikes, never had a leak either. It works in the same way as these banjo bolts and fittings, as they have a crush washer, tighten them enough to pinch the washer and no issue will be had.

If you know all these things, why not help out with education of the young'uns on your channel? This is not an attack, just a question/ suggestion....its not a class, it's a man in a small garage doing things his way, in his time. It's free, take it or leave it. If you don't understand the use of a torque wrench, or don't have the proper specs. Then this isn't the place to learn. If he catered to every request, then someone would come along and say "Dell, what's the use man, mucking about, explaining every little detail, get on with it man! This build will never be ridden this summer!" Never come to KZbin, for truth, to solve a problem, or to learn the answer to the ultimate question! It's a public forum, that allows the average person to express themselves in any way they can.......A wise man learns from both good and bad information. The fool simply believes anything.

Excellent vid as usual. I loved the trip out of the workshop and the music track was perfect. As someone who has worked at the pointy end of TV production for a number of years, I must say that the production values that you put into you vids are very high. Keep doing what you’re doing and many thanks for the work you put in.

Wow, thank you so much Stewart... coming from a TV professional, that is an honour to hear such praise... over time I've learned that the longer you spend on post-production, working on the raw material, then the more quality you bring to the video... the secret really is in the post-production, not the filming itself... this video in particular took 3 days to make, 70% of which was at the computer, so we really appreciate you noticing, thank you so much !

I thought you were in the motor until you started filtering. Nasty moment! Wemoto has a nice setup and your visit made an interesting diversion. It always feels good to fit a new part to a project doesn't it, and I really must get me one of those bleeding banjos (cue music...). In fact, in your shoes I think I'd be just a little bit reluctant to finish the build as it's obviously giving you (and us) so much satisfaction and enjoyment. Another great video - thanks, D&P. 👍

Oh, you know it Keith, the closer i get, the more i fear the end.. i know there will be more work later once its on the road.. but its not the same.. i truly dont want this to end, have enjoyed every single moment of building this, including all the bad times, blind alleys (like the first tail unit), and small fails along the way.. but once i get it running and riding, im already planning a few daft things that i could do next.. and yeah.. if you bought two of those banjos, would they then be Duel(ing) Banjos.?.. dumm dadda dum dum..!

Banjo bleeders are great for rear master cylinders that don't have a dedicated bleeder (which most don't). Helps to get all the air out of the rear line, that doesn't come out thru the caliper.

Thanks Tim... it can be a belt and braces mate, interestingly all of the Torque values in any Harley Davidson service manual give a "Range" not a direct setting... this indicates that its never utterly critical, and often the recommended range is actually to prevent you from OVER tightening things, not under tightening..!!!!! I never knew you could pump a hydraulic system more than one time per 'bleed'. I thought it was one to one. Great to learn that, makes total sense! Keep up the great teaching!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Sure thing Jeff, it kinda helps to understand how the master cylinder pump works itself, imagine like a bicycle pump where you have a rubber seal that only pushes one way (downwards in to the line), so as you pull the lever in, you pump a puff of air down, but when the little spring in the master cyclinder pushes the piston back and it grabs another gulp of air, so with about 4-5 pumps you'll actually pressure the air in the empty hose, if you hold the levre in, it holds that air pressurised, then open and shut the bleed valve releases that pressure and then when you let the lever back out, it naturally sucks air back in but, of course, it's not air above it, it's brake fluid, so it sucks a gulp of fluid in to the line and starts priming it... doesn't always work, sometimes they are dead stubborn, but if you're lucky, 5 pumps at a time, hold the lever in, then open and shut the bleed valve and you should have it plumbed up in no time... and don't forget to keep replenishing the resevoir as it pumps down in to the line...!
@CajunGreenMan
@CajunGreenMan 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the above! I have a rear brake on a used bike that didn't really work all that well. It would stop the bike, but was almost impossible to lock up the rear tire, no matter how much pressure I used. 1998 Triumph Daytona T595 that had been in climate-controlled storage for four years. Working on the rear brake light switch, I had to test the switch over and over and over. After that, the rear brake was much better. Still not sure it's working to optimum, first Triumph, first sport bike. I can lock up the rear tire now (no ABS), but it doesn't feel like I'm getting the stopping power I should from a liter bike. Any testing I should do? Should I just rebuild it? Would that need special tools? Replaced fluid, no change.

Hi Jeff... Good to hear from you mate, hope life is good. Ive been through that myself, its a nightmare aye... How worn is the disc mate?, and what about the pads... and also, is it still running the old rubber factory brake hose..?
@CajunGreenMan
@CajunGreenMan 5 жыл бұрын
Replaced pads with factory new prior to the rear brake light testing. Forget the term now, but I used sandpaper on the disc to clean out the dust from the grooves. Probably got the best grit to use from you, TBH. LOL! Don't know how to check the disc for wear. Had 7500 miles when I got it, 9500 now. I assume it's factory rubber hose, it's black, not colored or stainless.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Hi again Jeff.. OK, 9500 miles is nothing on a back disc unless its been run on worn out pads and damaged, but if its pretty smooth and not too heavily grooved, then its probably had reasonable treatment... new pads will always be a bit vague on an old disc because it takes a few weeks and maybe 1000 miles for the brake pads to wear and and "mate" fully with the exact profile of the disc... and if you choose to go for copper sintered pads, they will give more bite also... As for the brake hose.. its probably where your problem lies.. its a 20 year old bike so will more than likely have an old style rubber brake hose.. (you can soon tell because it'll be about 1/2 inch thick, and clearly made of rubber..... a braided steel hose may not be silver.. these days they are fitted as standard at the factory and are covered in a black plastic coating... they are easy to spot because it'll only be about 1/4 inch thick, and if you force a thumb nail into it you feel that its rock hard and very stiff to bend... if you do have the old rubber hose, which im guessing you probably do, then get yourself a braided steel hose right away, get it fitted and bled up.. and while you're at it, invest in some Copper Sintered HH pads.. those two mods will totally transform that back brake like you've never known it... and if you really really really want it top notch, and fancy giving your T595 a birthday.. get a brand new EBC disc too... then you'll actually be shocked at how sharp the brake will be.... Naturally the same goes for the front.. if it has rubber hoses.. then get them upgraded asap.. you wont regret it my friend... Good luck with it, let us know how you get on... D&Pxx

That simoniz tough black is awesome stuff, I painted the lower grille on my T5 in the gloss black and it's mint a year later. I also painted my z750 ltd tank in the same stuff, I did get a fuel leak from the filler neck as it was on the side stand which made it peel around it, hopefully I can repair it, needs petrol resistant lacquer I guess. Holt's said not to lacquer it though.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy.. yeah, once you snap off a bleed bolt.. i wouldn't even waste an easy out on it.. that wont go near it if it was already too seized to shift... this is a seriously simple idea, and ill now keep one in my tool box for ever... From years using this, it is petrol proof.. but it takes about 4 months in warm weather to fully cure first.. of you get fuel on it any sooner, it acts like paint stripper... i think they're right on the lacquer too. it wont make much difference. this stuff is a bit weird TBH.. if you try to paint another coat over it half a day later.. it all lifts up.. it needs about 24 hours at least before it can be re-coated... so its clearly a "curing" paint rather then a "drying " paint aye... take care buddy, and have a great weekend.. Del.

like that alien helmet... like they make your length hose. that is great business letting you film it. if i lived there i'd buy all my stuff thru him. i have good re pore with harley here and find alot stuff is not over priced. some yes. i buy all my oils and filters thru them. cleaners etc. nice to see you guys out riding. man if i passed that many people here they would be pissed. i know some laws say you can do that. but i like cruising so it doesn't bother me much. course age and retired may have something to do with that. I'm getting closer to doing all my own work now the warranty is almost up on my street 750. if i have to pay im learning to do it. your vids help alot. ty. ride safe guys. love your bikes. love the black and the duel front brakes. lol

Hi Bob, i get the whole 'filtering' thing over there.. i know some states allow it like California, but with their traffic i think maybe they see it as a traffic easing system.. less cars stuck in jams has to be a good thing aye..? Great to hear you're gonna do your own service work on the Street 750, it will give you an enormous pride of ownership when you care for its needs yourself... keep in touch buddy, and have a great weekend... +Moonfleet41 indeed it's a K red and black. I am trying to convert to USD forks but parts here are expensive.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean about parts, but if you aren't too bothered about genuine originality, then a more modern USD front fork is probably more plentiful on the open market than a front end from a L or M model... also later model Gixer 1000 forks will give you radial calipers too...and you can buy those on ebay also... Just thought..!

Sure thing buddy, with brakes especially, once you've bled them up to your satisfaction, just stand the bike on the prop stand, turn the bars to the left so the reservoir is uppermost, then tape the lever in to the bar, or as close as it will come without too much pressure, overnight... this pressurises the system, which will shrink any air bubbles inside the fluid, making them more buoyant and better able to float up through the fluid... overnight they will all rise to the top and as the lever is taped in, this opens the valve in the master cylinder and allows the air to express out in to the reservoir... giving you a fully solid hydraulic hose....... you can also do this with the clutch, but as it's a spring loaded mechanism, it's not a good idea to keep it under pressure overnight, so just half an hour or so will still make an improvement in the feel of the lever... give it a try, you'll see it works my friend...

So I went back and watched the Street Fighter Build “the first walk around “ video. I had forgotten what the bike looked like in its completely original (to you) form. I know you’ve done some in progress walk arounds, but I needed a refresher. Love the sports bikes of the ‘90s early ‘00s but yeah, after six (?) owners it was looking sad. The transformation is quite something, and there’s still some finishing touches to come! Great work Del. And oh yeah, Penny made an appearance in the video 👍 (waving to Penny...)

What's this about taping the brake lever for a nice crisp brake in the morning? Maybe a newbie question but could you explain this one please my friend?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruce, it pressurises the fluid, shrinking any air bubbles, forcing them up to the top, the lever being held in, means the valve in the master cylinder is open, so any air content makes it way up and out into the reservoir... untape it in the morning, pump it up a bit... and you'll see, it'll be harder and firmer at the lever with better feedback from the brakes... Give it a try mate, see how it goes..1

Hi both it seems you have a new fan, Jean my partner popped her head into the lounge when I was watching the vlog, she said, "is that KZbin ", I told her it was your channel & she was amazed theat you could speed the vlog up as you did, I told her that was nothing, telling her about fading in & out, she was well impressed. I would like to have a go but haven't a clue about what to do, but no doubt there are plenty of self help vids out there. I have a friend in Oz & she isn't interested in mechanics or anything & regularly watches KZbin, it sort of pre guesses what you like & picks stuff for you,. Did you renew the seals in the slave, I can't remember if you did a of on it. Off to Fuerteventura tomorrow for 10 days, so a bit of sun will be good, have a great weekend & I will aim you anything of interest over there 👍👍😎x

Hi Geoff.. i knew nothing what so ever about editing anf post production, back in the beginning we used to film it straight and upload it direct from the camera..like shooting from the hip aye..lol... but these days, things have moved on, and viewers can enjoy a much better standard of production.. well worth the time when you see the result.. but this video was 18 hours of work just to edit..!!!! so if you do get into it, be aware how much of am addiction it will become..loll Have great time away mate, and take care.. Del.

Hi Michael, its a permanent full time service, they can make HEL hoses for any bike, custom lengths, and even in different colours.. All hoses are made to OEM standard or above, and if you don't specify any changes then they will make it to exact OEM specification, packed and sent out thew same day or next depending on when you order..

Do you remember before Dire straits were really famous and Mark knopfler didn't want to do vocals ..well they had Chris Rhea come and try out .Ok obviously he got the gig very similar singing voice.problem was the band name Chris insisted on his name being used and Mark also was stubborn on the dire thing. "Dire Rhea ?" Ok that's not going to work !! Great video Del "on the road to HEL " great production filming front and rear that must have taken days to edit..
