Hi Allen, bringing all your pipes in to one collector is always the chosen method for racing, so it's always going to be a more tune-able and simple solution for a clean tune... there are some systems on the market for this bike, one that looks much the same as this, by Thunderbike, and they do claim a few horse power and a few pounds of torque above standard, so think I'm on the right track! Hope you're continuing to recover, stay safe there, D&Px

What a great master class for us (well, I personally may need remedial work after school due to “skillus lackus”) ...😬 Most importantly, Del, it sounds like you’re back to work, so big congrats to you! Chuffed for you! This week is normally bike week here on the peninsula where we live, but the promoters cancelled things months ago. Unbelievably though, the bikes are filing in as per usual albeit without a formal venue. Great community of bikers we are! Take it easy there, both of you! 🏍👍🏍
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, I'm not surprised about the bike venue there, these event organisers think that their corporate decisions will change our lifestyle, but if it's anything like here in England, bike events didn't begin when someone opened a gate and said 'we're here', it usually starts with a natural gathering of friendly bikers, growing in to a 'thing', then the word spreads and it becomes popular... until the corporate man sees what's going on, then builds a gate, holds his hand out for an entrance ticket with the excuse of laying on some entertainment, I guess it works because we love it, but the proof it is the way I say is that when they say 'it's cancelled', nothing really changes, just the entertainment isn't on! Bikers will gather whether you tell them too or not, don't you think?! Thanks for your kind words and support, have a great week, keep safe both, D&Px

Hi mate, have thought that through a few times, but not maxi-scooters because they're just too large and the potential isn't really there to do anything that interesting with them, but in my previous life I ran a bike shop and for a time we were a Gilera dealer, and the Gilera 180 two stroke is insanely tune-able, with gearbox rollers and a piston kit, you can make them embarrass Fireblade's off the lights, but like all these things, try finding one worth a jot, they're all either hammered to death already, or treasured and polished! But it's certainly a thought Jon, and thanks for your kind words on the pipes.

Hello, Del. Great work. Looks very awesome. Similar to the Honda CB 400 Supersport from the 70s, But don't you think that the smaller diameter of the middle pipe causes problems with the flow of exhaust gases? Maybe a backpressure and thus an increased temperature of the middle cylinder? I hope you understand what I mean, my English is not good enough to explain it better. Greetings from Germany. I love your videos. Arne
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Arne, a common misconception Sir, all I did was flatten the side of the middle pipe to make it square, the corners created take the place of the curves that were there, meaning it's no smaller, it's actually the same circumference as it was, no metal was removed, just re-shaped, so it should burn just the same in theory! And your English is just perfect, thank you for your comments.
@daveinwla63604 жыл бұрын
@@Moonfleet41 - Arne is right in that the cross-sectional area of the middle pipe is a little less than each of the 2 outer pipes, even though all 3 have the same perimeter. That would make the exhaust gas have to flow a little faster in the middle pipe. The middle pipe also has a higher ratio of perimeter to cross-sectional area, producing more drag in the middle pipe. The combination would result in more back pressure in the middle pipe. But since the 3 cylinders empty at different times and this header design doesn't depend on timing of a reflected pressure wave, the effect is probably insignificant. If this were a 2-stroke engine, though, pulse timing and exhaust velocity would be important.

@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Nathan, it shouldn't do mate, remember there were 2 heavyweight, fully restricted silencers on there and now it'll just be one open short silencer instead... so the back pressure should be the same, or even less, similar to a system made by Thunderbike, their header is more or less like mine, and they report that increses power and torque by a small amount... so I'm looking forward to finding out!

As a fuel injected bike, it shouldn't run too lean, but depending on what Triumph it is, you should be able to re-map it to run on the Emgos, if it's an air cooled twin, your dealer can download and install the 'open' map which will run on any aftermarket silencers... check with the dealer first, should be fine, and the download usually costs about £30.

hi del ,have you thought that you are adding 1/3 more gas into the 2 into 1 , maybe use bigger bore pipe from 3 into 1 to tail pipe , just asking , all looking good
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Yes mate, all considered, and have a little experience with this, remember it had two fat restrictive silencers and now it'll have one big bore straight through silencer, so no restriction on the back, am gonna make the funnel choke in the next video and the existing collector I've cut off will be welded on at least 6" further back than it's original position, allowing for a shallow taper which will feed the gases in progressively, if you look at the Thunderbike system available on the market, it uses this same design and gives 7 extra bhp, so this could even give me a little improvement!

Absolute right decision! I wonder what it sounds like right now? :P
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, I really wanted to fire it up, even though I don't have the can yet, but there's no fuel or coolant in the motor and it's important I flush it through first, as the coolant was quite full of rust due to the iron liners... but it will happen when the time comes, a proper sound off video!

I get the impression you didn't want to cut off the two into one collector but had to because of your style. Man, removing and reinstalling those pipes and working them to adjust fit over and over; you must REALLY enjoy customization and fabrication.

Del, I noticed you have issues with the Filter and wearing a mask at the same time... lookup 'Resp-O-Rator Dust Respirator Model JR-7'. Michaelcthulhu channel has been running them for years and a number of others have made nice mods to them If you want to view how Michaelcthulhu made the changes most of us use, look up 'Charity Microbuild: That Thing Around My Neck'
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hello buddy, I follow Michaelchthulhu and what a crazy lunatic he is! It's no wonder he ended up with a TV show. I know the respirator you mean, a great piece of kit based on the principle of a diver's aqualung, and I believe you can buy them now in various forms, so definitely a better option than trying to wear a regular respirator and a weld mask at the same time!
@wobblysauce4 жыл бұрын
That he is... but that good type of lunatic. As for the design it is painfully simple, that most forget about you don't want to be breathing what is in front of you so pick a different location, that said you can change the filter type to whatever you need, like most things the best tool is the one at hand... and the full face respirators are nice but can be annoying, either you wear it too much or you go without it. Been following for maybe 10 years, how time flys when looking back at it.

Great vid again mate, why the spray just before you cut the S/Steel ? Does that help the disk cut through S/Steel better or is it to prolong the life of the disk ? Never saw that done before, Top Tip for the day if you please. LOL
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Ho buddy, good to hear from you...I used the cutting oil spray on the band saw actually, not with the disc.... it's there to keep the cutting face cool, it stops the cut line closing up from heat expansion, (which can trap the blade and break it) also and prolongs the life and sharpness of the bandsaw blade.. it's not essential, just belt and braces really..!

I wud put a strengthener strip at the bottom of the headers defo needed for hardtails for vibration but always good
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Cheers buddy, I have considered that, am going to envelope all 3 tubes in to a single oval cone, with a perimeter weld all the way round, so once that's done, I'll give them a little flex and see how they move, and if they need one, then yes, perhaps just a little discreet plate strip on the back about 6" forward of the cone... good thinking!

No balancepipes necessary?
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
No, none fitted by the factory on the 2-into-1 part, so should be fine.
@kieranmanners1704 жыл бұрын
Could be a complete amateur comment, but is there not a concern with back pressure buildup with pipe 2 being squshed from both sides? Creating a smaller area for gases to escape with the way they are joined together? I am loving this build overall, cant wait to see what you do colour scheme wise, if you do anyway. Keep it up.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Kieran, no that's the good thing with manipulated pipes, you change the shape, but not the circumference, what is now the middle pipe was 'D'-shaped and is now square, it's no smaller, just doesn't have round edges... so the flow capacity will be more or less the same!

The pipe your going to use will it be big enough to take the gases from 3 as it was used for 2 before if I’m talking bollocks just say lol Hope your both well
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Leigh.. the link pipe will be plenty big enough to flow the gasses.. it's bigger then the link pipe on the Busa, and thats 400cc bigger with an extra cylinder... it also helps that ill be using a single open megaphone silencer with little or no baffle... and previously it had two fay restrictive factory cans bunging things up... Should actually give me a bit more torque low down too... Hope life is good mate.. Ride safe aye.. Del.

19mins 30sec..LIKE A GLOVE!!! lol Hindsight is great... a suggestion for next time, coming from a guy who makes..or tries to make viking axes lol... A "hardy" inside the pipes and the pipe heated would have made it easier... not mansplaining.... you know when you have to open up the hole for the wooden shaft to go thru, the metal is hot, you shove the hardy thru, and hammer. Its one of those... I see "the video" of doing it in my head, but cant articulate the words to explain it... like this guy I follow at 5mins 40seconds Anyway. really elegant solution dudeski. Breathing Masks and welding helmets..... lmao! yeah.. I have the same issue. Alec Steele a blasdesmith I watch, has a full face air mask, that also has like a welding face attachment. Links up to the compressor. I had a look and was surprised by the prices. £100 upto £300. Shame I dont have a compressor yet. And glad to see I'm not the only one who sticks his face 12" away from what hes welding Penny pitstop still on the same yahoo email addy? got some bits to post out to you guys.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, yes you're right, PPE is always a pain in the arse, you can weld something and need to quickly grind it back, then weld again, and that can be over 1/2hr because it's weld mask off, glasses on, respirator on, ear defenders on, quick grind, take it all off again, weld mask back on, it's like musical head gear lol... and yes, I know what you mean in that description, I used to watch the crazy Irishman who makes the giant swords when I had the time to watch You Tube that is!... and yep, Penny is on the same email mate.
