Yeah, fetches are almost a must, since they can fetch Murmuring bosk. But as Corbin Hosler demonstrated years ago, the strongest part of it is inquisition+surgical combo, this is how he beat that stupid deck by discarding+extracting bridge, opponent scooped immediately.

Yes, I think taking down Inkmoth was the priority because it was the only threat that could swing and kill that next turn, but it happens! Sweet deck! I’d be interested in adding some $ to the mana base and see where that takes it!

I play the Bant version of this with Arcades in historic, and the MVP for me is Tower Defense. It steals so many games out of nowhere, both on offense and defense. Slaughter the Strong is also an awesome one sided wipe against the right kind of deck. I like big butts!

If you splash blue (really easy with 1 triome) you can use my favorite spicy Doran cards: Unsettled Mariner (he's a Treefolk that Harbinger can tutor!) and Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive. Could also go High Alert over Assault Formation to be able to untap Catapult Fodder, and even a Charix on your top end. I've had good luck with a couple Eldritch Evolution as a way to swap out Harbingers or in this case Grazer for whatever I need at the moment. A couple Spellskite is also super solid.

My favorite casual deck I've ever made is a variant of this deck. It runs 5 colors and gates + Maze's End as the land base. This makes it slow, so basically every creature in the deck is a 1-2 drop except two copies of Phenax (mill based on toughness). The glue that holds the deck together is the enchantment "Hold the gates" which gives vigilance and +1 toughness per gate you control. It's super easy to 1-2 shot people either with combat damage or mill after dropping just one hold the gates. Super janky, but really fun in a casual environment where people aren't winning turn 2-3 with hyper fast agro or combo.

I loved my Doran tiny leaders deck, wish that format would have caught on. Lignify is a decent answer to a major problem creature that harbinger can search. Also lagonna trail blazer 1 drop 4/4.

FWIW, I think even without hindsight the Inkmoth would have been the correct target last game. Both targets have outs if you don't pick them, but the Inkmoth is the one that will kill you immediately if they have it.

Consider adding in Behind the Scenes, and uncommon enchantment from Shadows over Innistrad that costs 2B and says “Creatures you control have skulk” and “4W: Creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn.” It’s an all-star in my Doran commander deck.

Lumberknot = bad Doran? I would argue that while Lumberknot is one more mana, it is easier to cast, only needing black and green, as well as essentially letting you use the higher stat of your creatures to deal damage. There is a tradeoff for not affecting your opponents creatures, but I think you shouldnt count on your opponents deckbuilding decicions anyway.

he didn't want the opponent to be able to block and have their eidolon die. Most of their spells would deal 2 damage to them and 3-4 to Seth which considering their lifetotal wasn't a trade they could make many times

@@theatog They incorrectly swinged without leaving blockers, they should have assumed a Doran effect is a likely topdeck, leaving a memnite behind still wins on their next turn. Of course Seth also had removal in which case the only winning play is leaving both 1/1s on the defense but that makes omni alone no longer lethal if for whatever reason it becomes the only viable attacker. However if as happened the removal cost plus Doran effect are 6 mana value or higher, affinity still wins with just one blocker. I think the best line would be leaving one blocker back to play around a Doran effect and force Seth to have exactly removal and Doran effect having combined cost of 5 at most to win.

The end of game 1 kind of confused me. If he attacked with the grazer and the ox, and then sacrificed witch ever gets blacked, doesn’t the opponent just lose without the Eidelon ever leaving play so they stay locked? I don’t see any benefit to what Seth did there at the end instead, where he let the opponent have a chance to attack with the Eidelon in order to get rid of it. I very well could be missing something though. Anyone want to let me know if I am?

I really don't get the end of that game. There were so many ways he could have won. Also by stalemating himself that way he was just letting the opponent potentially draw more cards to kill him. What would he have done had the opponent drawn 3 burn spells and used the first to kill his Eidelon. Seth would respond by trying to sac the ox to kill and then the opponent responds by 2 burn spells to his face and kills him. By playing "safe" he was just making things more dangerous for himself.

Man that punt in the last game. Destroying the Aid over the inkmoth. Without inkmoth there is no way he could have won the following turn and you had the game put away on the next turn. So, that was the only option to hit with Vindicate. So sad. :(

I think it's more complicated than that. If we kill Inkmoth we can't lose the next turn, but getting Hammer + Shadowspear on a creature still pretty much beats us.

Game 1, I think the opponent forgot the assault formation can buff your creatures. That's probably why they tanked after you pumped and blocked.
