I have so many similar thoughts. Moonlight Chicken is a masterpiece really ; it touched my soul and is gonna leave its trace forever in my mind. ❤

Moonlight chicken was outstanding. It’s definitely a 5/5 for me. I loved the coloring of this show. Heart and Liming just wrenched my heart strings. I agree that the idea that Earth/Jim is a 40 something year old as laughable. I thought wow I couldn’t have the elasticity that Wen had when it comes to Jim. One rejection is enough for me 😩

I have a couple of thoughts after watching this review. I would give the show 5/5 (actually, 10/10, since I tend to think in a 0 to 10 scale), and I have to disagree about both of the objections that were brought toward the show. I did not have any problem with accepting Jim being almost 40 because there are certainly people who look much younger than they actually are. Look at a picture of Ralph Macchio when he was 40 and tell me he doesn’t look at least 10 years younger. So when they said he was almost 40, as far as I was concerned, he was almost 40. I also disagree about being dissatisfied with where the show left Alan and Gaipa. To me, there was an intentional choice for us to see the two characters at the beginning of their relationship when we reached the end of the show. Life doesn’t have neat endings where everybody’s stories come to a close at the same time, and I liked the fact that this show honored that truth. Other than those two things, I appreciated all of the positive comments that were made about the show and agree with them very much. I will also add as an impressive scene the one in which Jim tells Gaipa that he is not interested in him romantically. Khaotung’s performance there, where we see him desperately trying to put on a brave face while his world has been crushed is a master class in portraying a character where what you see on the outside and what is going on in the inside are diametrically opposed to each other. It’s uncomfortable to watch in part because it is done so incredibly well.

I think, for me (Heather), my dissatisfaction with where they left Alan and Gaipa was that I just wanted the hint of a little *more* for where their story could go. I 100% agree that we didn't need their story to come to a conclusion at the same time as Wen and Jims, but I was hoping for either 1 extra scene between Alan and Gaipa without others around or maybe an extra look... This doesn't take away from my love of the series though - it was actually my number 4 in my Top BLs of 2023 list!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the show with us :)

I want to say that I really enjoyed this bl. I’m in my 70s and I have seen this slice of life in real life. I have seen how Jim feels in so many other older adults( I am talking about Jim portraying a 40-ish person who has experienced some real hurt). It’s hard for that person to even trust- to try again. Jim realistically, portrays this. With that I have to give kudos not only to the actors in this play, but kudos to the writers as well.

Oh for sure! We 100% think Earth did a great job of capturing what Jim has gone through and how it influenced his choices!!

I enjoyed the MLC - but I too will give it 4.5/5. Similarly, I resonated more towards Heart and Liming storyline, although EarthMix actings were top notched! And I think for me, personally, First and Khaotung always shine when they are on screen. Like everyone, I cried buckets during Gaipa’s funeral scene…

There was something about Heart and Liming's story that was so captivating and sweet. All the relationships in this series were written and acted so well!!
