Fantastic interview! I just finished watching His Man 2 in anticipation of this and at first was like, "Wait, who's Dabit???" I started listening through a podcast app first but as soon as I recognized his voice I went to the YT to see him. Lots of respect to Dabit who REALLY put himself out there on HM2 right after his breakup, which brought him to where he is today. The BL recommendations with the immediate disclaimers were hilarious, and I enjoyed hearing about how he is interested in watching how power dynamics are played with in BL (I need to know what that other series he liked but forgot the name of was). The outrage about how clearly the Choco Milkshake writer wasn't a pet owner sent me. (fr where the butt pats??) I basically follow all his socials now thanks to this interview and saw that he was going to start watching/reacting to Only Friends, so mission accomplished. Good job, Pixie & Heather! 😻

Honestly by the end of the show, Joe's willingness to so easily forgive (and get down and dirty) with Ming made Joe less likeable. I spent the first part of the show sympathising deeply with Joe but after a while i was just fed up his lack of backbone. I don't love that the show did a 'let's redeem the abusive top' by just making Ming and Joe increasingly codependant and pathetic. I had so much hope in the beginning of the series that Joe wouldn't forgive Ming for kidnapping him and then literally indirectly causing his death. When Joe was shot I had faith that if he chose life over death that he would do so of his own volition, but nah it was Ming who told him not to die instead and he instantly caved. This is also so petty but I genuinely thought that, since both Ming and Joe are vers, at some point Ming would let Joe be on top, and that that would represent Ming conceding some of his power and allowing Joe to be in control for once - top/bottom discourse can get messy, homophobic and sexist very quickly so it isn't usually something I care to fixate on excessively...but it just felt so stupid to emphasise that both Joe and Ming are vers and then only have Joe be on top after he's been kidnapped, which was ultimately just an attempt to distract Ming. Argh. The last few episodes of this show frustrated me to no end.

This was an interesting show for me. I appreciated it more for the production quality, complex plot and characters. But I don't think I liked the main couple that much. I don't like couples that feel uneven in the level of their love or affection. Zhi Yuan seemed to be blinded by his love for Wei Qian to the point that he didn't seem to see any of his flaws. Or at least be upset by them. But that's more of a personal pet peeve. I dislike obsessive adoration if it's not acknowledged as such. I was done when Zhi Yuan wasn't more pissed at being sent away and just seemed to wait for 4 years. I think I'll read the novel for more context and then re-watch.

I, too, almost passed on this series after reading the synopsis. Somethings are not ok with me. I do not enjoy stories of romantic/sexual relationship between brothers of any degree. I knew the characters were not related by blood at the onset, but Qian raised Zhi Yuan from boyhood. This, as well as the implication that Qian was molested by his mother, could have been a storyline too disturbing for me to tolerate. However, the producers of this series did a wonderful job telling the story in a respectful and delicate manner, such that I found it beautiful, and not offensive. The flashbacks to childhood during the love scene was indeed jarring and made me somewhat uncomfortable. The version without these scenes much easier to watch.

When a novel is adapted into a series, there‘re always many aspects lost. Taiwanese director seems to lack the understanding of mainland things. They fail to capture the vibes in the original novel. this series become just a series, the original novel is more than that. it's pity that this can't be filmed in mainland of china .

I always enjoy your conversations! I agree that Ming is not as bad as Vegas. Novel Ming is worse than series Ming. I initially disliked both but both grew on me. Ming was not 100 percent bad and love for Joe changed him. I agree that Yai is the greenest flag, but i love Kang too!

great listen! loved the green flag debate! lolol...Having seen the three shows I'd have to pick Pisaeng as the greenest of flags..only because of his emotional intelligence..Kawi was quite a difficult character to love (unlike Jom) and Pisaeng did it beautifully...Naivete, in my view, can cause a lot of pain..this makes Yai slightly less green...but not by much! Kang goes right in the middle because he's emotionally intelligent and adorable... :)

I dont know who you referring to "queer couples who call themselves bl couples". When we have systems (even where they make money on queerness) where heterosexuals are always given preference. I think queer people can do whatever they want.

I just recently discovered BLs. I personally love romcom BLs, and being Korean I really loved "Jun & Jun." It had enough hot scenes, but was lighthearted and fun to watch. I like a few Thai and Taiwanese BLs, but I now watch mainly Korean (as I'm a Korean gal) BLs and follow real gay couples here on YT. I try not to go too deep into the shipping aspect of actors (friendship). When the History MODC leads’ friendship soured end of last year I was so heartbroken because MODC had been one of my favorite non-Korean BLs. Poor Taiwanese fans are still confused as no real explanation has come out, but it must be pretty serious as Wayne's IG follower numbers have gone down, with even celebrity friends apparently unfollowed him. 🥺

I still want to know what happened with that series he was supposed to be in a couple years ago where he was a side couple with another guy and they did martial arts together. There was a trailer with several couples and then nothing.
