Wow. Sorry but this is crap. I'm not particularly attached to classical music, and I actually like modern music, but your remix is so pedestrian and generic. Not to mention that the "professional" mix is horrible.

Honestly, hearing the "professional" mix and his mix together made me doubt the skill of this so called "professional". It was super grainy and muffled. His master was clear, crisp, and had more impact. Any additional impact the "pro" master had was lost in the muffled quality.

I could not agree more. For some things, compressing the mess out of the tracks to make it more "normal" is okay. In this case, it gets in the way of good music because you lose the dynamics. Classical is all about the feel.

Personally I think it was a perspective difference when approaching the piece. When he was doing it himself, he knows he wants the focus to be on the piano and really puts it's sound first in priority when mixing. The professional was likely handed the two pieces and told to mix them together so they did their best to give as much space for both of them but I agree I think they went overboard and played things generally too safe.
@chedkosovac8320

@@cinco_de_la_tarde No hate on the pro, but it's moonlight sonata it's the most iconic piano piece. He should know what to do with it. But he has that cookie cutter approach, most likely had a everything on a preset and just hit that and was done with it.

@@Crea-Bea-Explosie peak something means "it's so good that it can't get any better than that" for example peak efficiency is efficient to the point of not getting any more efficient. Sass is like being passive aggressive, saying what you don't really mean. For example when you see a stupid message on discord and you reply "wow what a SMART comment" :) Combining them together in peak sass means EXTREME PASSIVE AGGRESSIVENESS, because Lionel basically said that if you're angry about the video, you should just leave a comment about it for all of us to laugh about XD Hope that helped :D

WHEW! That was... INSANE!!!!! This is an old video, but Lionel, like all great classics, it'll stand the test of time. A century or two into the future, if man is still alive, a pianist will sit down and play 'His version' of Moonlight Sonata, as revised by Lionel Yu, and the audience will go insane with applause. I'm an old guitarist from the 60s... learn three chords and join the neighborhood rock band. In my 'advanced age,' I've developed an ear for classical music. Moonlight Sonata is one of my favorites. A really wonderful arrangement and reinterpretation of Moonlight Sonata, the way you've combined the 1st and 3rd movements. As much as I love everything going on in the finished piece I'd honestly love to hear just the piano arrangement by itself. Really stellar!

I have mixed feelings about it... it's amazing what you guys made of it but still in love with the original parts... the best way i could describe the vibe it gave me: original parts ( Bethoven playing is sonata in full after finishing it's composition ) The revamped parts ( the psychosis Bethoven would have went trought if he went trought months looking for a missing note that doesn't exist and lost is mind over it ) Well done guys... Also don't hand your work to a stranger under the reason of him/her being a pro, you had it right the first time....

The professional master was not good at all. Heavy filter used sounds like it was thrown on the master channel. The beat drowned out the piano. Obviously this is all up to artistic interpretation, but for such an iconic song the piano should be in the front and the beat should accompany it, not the other way around.

I liked your mastering more, just one suggestion is to make the piano louder, because the beat behind it seemed to kind of overpower it. Other than than, your mastering was better than the pro’s.

I es y to say that your version of Moonlight sonata really projects your spirit into the classic masterpiece. Many thanks for sharing it with us. Not only the new sound but also the story is an unique look into the master life. Really brings the music tormenting his interior and calling for within the composer, projecting outside from the piano make everything whole again

Holy cow, this is fantastic in so many ways. The creativity, the variety of sounds added alongside the piano, the overall improvements, the intensity brought in the 3rd movement rewrite, the mastering (I prefer yours too, Lionel), the virtuosity (goes without saying) - all while staying true to the original. Thank you, Lionel and Lone-R! I don’t think it would degrade your work at all to commercialize it. One thought that kept coming back to me while I listened is how great this piece would be if more choir were added over the piano (should be a different keyboard for the purpose) broken up as the 2020s global theme of “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire”? Traditionalists are going to say it’s the worst idea they’ve ever heard. But when you compare the remixes of the current and older WWTBAM themes, they don’t hold a candle to your Moonlight Sonata Nightmare Version. [In particular the music from the recent U.S. edition where Chris Harrison hosted just sucks.] Call me crazy, but I’ll be dreaming of themes, cues, beds, bumps and vamps of your work. In the admittedly unlikely event you agree, it could be worth your time to reach out to Sony Pictures Television and Disney to see if there’s an opportunity. Tomorrow I promise to go back to listening to it as you had intended and appreciate its brilliance at face value. If anyone reads this comment, please don’t hate on me or declare it blasphemy. My eclectic form of music absorption and appreciation sometimes works in mysterious ways. Happy holidays, and keep up the great work delighting us with awesome videos and audio!
