I personally prefer to post my pens, and for them to post deeply, and when posted to maintain a pleasant aesthetic, and to provide a near 50/50 weight balance with a slight bias towards the nib. Unfortunately many of the pens sold today fall short in this area. I'd love to see more manufacturers, including those from China and Europe, addressing this (I find that quite a few pens produced in Japan already meet this criteria and is why I tend to prefer them). I think it would give those manufacturers that do pay attention to posting as I prefer a novel edge with consumers who share my opinions on this. The M800 is certainly a beautiful pen. Enjoy the pen, and as always thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Jeff. I don't have a preference and have no problem with a pen that won't post. They just become differently purposed. A non-posting pen like my beloved Penbbs 323s are "desk pens". Where my deeply posting (and very satisfying it is) Pilot e95s is a carry around with you pen. Usually deeply posting pens are slimmer - like the Parker 51. But this M800 is a lovely surprise, in that it posts deeply and securely, is well balance both ways and is a thicker, meatier pen in the hand. I like it.

I realize I'm very late to the game on these, but I have recently gotten into using fountain pens. In only a couple months I've accumulated 7. Lamy A studio & safari, Monteverda Ritma, Scriveiner Classic & EDC, TWISBI 580AL and a few others but I wanted to add something in resin and more colorful. This lead me to your videos that I'm so thankful for. Yesterday I ordered a couple Jinhao 100's, the M800 in Galaxy with Bock nib, and a New Moon 2. I'm very excited to receive them. I will eventually get a PenBBS I'm sure, but this is a good start to see a few options. Your videos are outstanding. The right mix of information and humor. Many Thanks!

Then look no further than the Penbbs 500 in "Galaxy". It is the same acrylic resin and a very unique pen. They are difficult to come by now but keep an eye on the Penbbs shop on Etsy. There are other Penbbs pens that are unique in Galaxy as well. Look for the 323 and the 267 which are also very unique pens.

My own M800 is due to arrive this morning, and so your review is most timely, Sir Doug. I ordered mine with Moonman nib, because I have some goldtone Bock #6 nibs in stock, and assume I can sub in one of them. The comparison ought to be quite fun. After that, I'll compare with my much-loved steel nibbed Leonardos.

I'd be interested to hear the differences between the Moonman, Bock (on the Moonman) and the Bock on the Leonardos. I've heard that many Leonardo customers were having issues with the Bock nibs but that Leonardo too steps to clean up their quality control recently.

If I had the choice for a Bock nib I would never have cared for a Moonman nib. Standard Bock are just amazing and I believe that it's these that Moonman provides with the M800. Leonardo Bocks are custom tuned in house, so this may be the reason for the issues that you mentioned. I also absolutely love KWZ Azure #5 too ! ! ! !

Thanks, korax! The M800 is currently offered with both the Moonman #6 and the stock Bock #6 nib. I'm guessing the Bock is the very same nib that is in the Leonardo, although I'm positive they don't receive the attention the Leonardos receive in terms of QC.

As usual a very nice review. I love my Moonman 800 Amber and my Green version should be here tomorrow. I got both with the Bock nib. The Amber version writes amazing. The only issue is that it fails to start to close about 50% of the time. I have to reverse it and then close it again. I have had others said does the same thing. But it is a great pen and I enjoy it very much.

I'm Jonesing now for the Amber version and a bit impatient for when they'll be back in stock. I had the same issue with the cap but didn't even mention it because I just naturally reverse and rescrew the cap. I would be interesting to see if the Leonardo has the same issue. I haven't noticed the hard starts with this pen. I got some while doing my writing sample on camera, but I had the pen uncapped for quite a bit of time under hot lights. I've since increased the wetness on the nib with a little tweaking and it is just fine.

I'm enjoying the M800 Bock nib both as a change of pace from Moonman nibs and as as a great nib in its own right. It is finer than the Moonman #6, but that's cool. Mine wrote perfectly out of the box. I noticed that you mastered the idiosyncrasy of the cap threads but didn't mention it. It's not a big issue for me. Look forward to your ink reviews. That KWZ blue looks wonderful.

You are absolutely correct, Sir. You noticed it when I just glossed over it. I think it is because I'm so used to backing off a threaded cap that is troublesome before turning it forward again. I've gotten into the habit of doing that as I own several Jinhao 159, each of which exhibit this little snag issue. The KWZ Azure #5 is quickly becoming my favourite blue.

Very nice. I got one as my opportunity to get an Amber is a Cat resin since I missed out on the PenBBS stock. It's a really nice pen and I love the feel. I also struggle a bit with the copy factor. However, as you say, there is no confusing the two. They're after a different market segment. Like the Jinhao 159 and Montblanc 149, I seriously doubt Montblanc sales have taken a hit from the likely hundreds of thousands of Jinhaos out there. Excellent review.

I just received a purple M800 & it is fabulous. All the chatoyancy of a galaxy but more transparency & it's purple. The cap threads better than the amber one I have with a Bock F nib, which writes wonderfully. I enjoy my many Moonman #6 F nibs. They are smooth wet & more F/M line width. All wrote great out of the box. In my hand equal to the PenBBS F nib with a little bounce. One wonders when you'll have an amber M800. 🤓🐆. KWZ are the initials of the chemist who makes these wonderful inks.

I've started noticing the cap thread issue with the Galaxy. It isn't as severe as my Jinhao 159s (all of them). You just back it up until you find the start. It become automatic. I've just swapped the Moonman nib in the Galaxy for a two-toned Penbbs fine and it is amazing! I did a video on it that will be out next week. Yes, I was sure those were initials on the KWZ inks (from Poland). But, I was corrected when I first pronounced it K W Z instead of "QUEASY". :) I"m thinking I won't be waiting much longer for the Moonman nib Ambers and might have to pull the trigger on the Bock. I hope it is better than the Schmidt #6 that was on my M600 and which is now in a drawer.

M600 is also in a drawer as I only have one, my M600Ss are in daily use with their Moonman nibs. Wonder what the chemist thinks of hearing queasy as his initials. It might be quaint.

Do you ever crossthread this cap? I love this pen after replacing the nib with a jowo, but the only little issue for me is that the cap has the top of the threads cut shallower than the rest so if you aren't careful the cap can cross thread when you put it on. I just have to take the extra time when I put it on to make sure I don't.

I like the 159 a lot. It is QUITE a bit thicker than the M800 (13.6-12mm for the 159 and 12-10.5mm for the M800). So, they really aren't the same writing experience IMO.

There is no cap-liner, but there is a step machined into the inner part of the barrel that matches up with the end of the section that should seal the nib. I haven't had any hard-starting issues, but I have increased the wetness of the pen as it was pretty dry right out of the bubble wrap.

The last order I made was cancelled by the eBay seller, not because he couldn't ship but because he couldn't get the pen delivered to him inside China to ship out. That was a couple of weeks ago and it now looks like China is getting the coronavirus contained and are starting to release international transport. Even at that, if you order today, don't expect to see anything until May. That's my guess.

Lovely resin! I like the fact it’s a light pen, in spite of the several ”preciousss’ gold rings. Just a tiny bit heavier than my ”preciouss” ebonite Neponset. My experience with gold plating on chinese pens is that it easily wears off, also on pens in the 20-40€ range. And glue and fitting less than perfect, which can results in parts rattling a bit after a while. Will you maybe do a long term review of this nice pen? In a few years time perhaps?

I'm sure you're right, Johan, about the plating on the Chinese pens being a bit thin. Of course, it will depend on the amount of wear it gets. I have particularly acidic skin (I kill guitar strings) so I'd be a good test case.

i dont like italian pens for being overpriced. when leonardo momento zero came out, i was thinking the same way. but i had the chance to hold one in my hand and own one.i can easily say that it is the most comfortable pen that i ever hold.

@@deniz4152 Yes, but which colour? The Blue Hawaii is the only one I've seen with any stock anywhere lately.

@@InkquiringMinds it is matte black. the drawback is coating on nib wears off in time. so i dont recomend this color.
