I watched an interview with Olympia Dukakis (Rose), she talked about how as she was filming this her kids were in college on credit cards. She said she felt like a failure as a mother, and then “Rose” stepped into her life. She won an Oscar for playing Rose in this film, and her career truly began.

The other man by the ovens is the actual owner of the bakery that was used. He did not to want to close the bakery for filming, so they kept working and baking through the scene. Cool, huh?

Screenwriter and playwright John Patrick Shanley spent a lot of time with his Italian friends in Brooklyn. He said that they had fabulous clothes, great food and were much less inhibited than his family.

My parents were not that way at all. My grandmother said “sometimes tradition skips a generation”. I miss her everyday.

This is literally my number one movie. It is such a depiction of Italian life. And love at all ages. And some really funny scenes and great lines. Then, there's Cher's transformation. She is truly one of the most beautiful women in the world.

My mother said everyone in this film reminded her of the New-York-Italian side of her family. Also, every time I go to the opera at the Met, I cannot see (that same production of) La Bohème and not hear "She's coughing her brains out and still she has to sing!"

I had been wanting to see Moonstruck but never had time. I saw Cher and Olympia Dukakis win their Oscars so I made plans the next day to see it. The theater room was full to capacity. When Cher's name appeared on the screen the audience burst in to applause and cheers. I had never experienced that before or ever again. Great movie! Glad that you enjoyed it. ❤

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie! Her house reminds me of my house growing up, and my grandparents' house, with all the photos of the ancestors and the floral wallpaper! LOL! There is so much in this movie that is my family and friends! This movie is hilarious and Cher was absolutely fabulous in it!! Everybody was great in it!

This movie reminds me of my relatives! They're old Sicilians and do stuff like this. Some of them don't speak English very well, or they're uncomfortable speaking it in front of people they don't know, so I had to translate to my husband. He's a very tall man, so they call him "Il gigante russo." He doesn't understand why they call him a Russian, since he's not, but I explained that during WWII, they were little and the Russian soldiers probably looked like really massive to them, especially since all them, both the men and the women, are under 5 feet tall. He's 6'3, so he looks like Godzilla around them. Funny story: our son is a little on the short side, and one of my husband's brothers asked him if he was worried that our son would be short. My husband said, "well, if he is, he'll probably rule the planet because the shorter they are in her (me) family, the scarier they get." He is such a flatterer!

I swear Cher just plays herself in every role - she is an icon! Her attitude, comedic timing and delivery earned her an Oscar for this role. Please watch Mermaids if you haven’t yet. I saw that movie in theaters back in 87. Iconic lines “Slap out of it”. 😂 it was also the first time I remember seeing Nick Cage. Cher is an amazing actress. My favorite of hers is “Mask”. If you’ve never seen it I highly recommend it. It’s a tearjerker 😢tho.

I loved your lecture on cheating. You were right on the money. Women always get the short end of the stick in these situations. Rose is being cheated by his infidelity, so is the other woman, and strangely enough, his daughter is being cheated. "Snap out of it." Not everybody notices what it's costing Loretta to live in a Cold War zone. She settled for a man just like her father--absent. "Someday you'll drop dead, and I'll come to your funeral in a ared dress." Vincent Gardena steals every scene he's in. "And that's all I'm gonna say." "I don't like Johnny Camerari's lips. When he smiles, you can't see his teeth. What's he got to hide?" Every line makes me howl. And Grandpa cracks me up. He's never on the same page as everyone else. "Somebody tell a joke." "I'm confused." This is a beautiful film. Everything about it just shines. Right down to the ironic moment when Ronnie borrows Johnny's ring to become engaged to Loretta. The Italian spin on everything. "Cosmo, no matter what you do, you're gonna die." "Old man, if you feed one more bite of my food to those dogs, I'll kick you till you're dead." It's perfect from start to finish. You made it even more fun with your reactions and your laughter. Your joy is contagious. A la familia.

Being northen Italian I see Italian Americans Who are almost all southern as much closer to Greeks and and they occasionaly describe us Lombards as more German These differences are fading but the traces of old foreign dominations are visibile in the architecture, customs and of course dialects.Cuisine Is also different every few miles and so we enrich One another. Only Gardenia spoke perfect Italian Cher (Armenian) and Olympia Dukakis were fantastic. The Deep south was Magna Grecia and the Romans were barbaric before soaking up Ellenic culture.My region was under Austria until 1861.

Love this movie, but it’s a COMEDY. We could do without the sermonizing from someone who doesn’t get the jokes or understand the culture.
