Always a good idea to keep a small disposable poncho with the softshell / DWR type jackets, they're flat and easy to fit even in a back pocket like a wallet, so you can store one inside one of the jacket pockets so if it starts pouring buckets and you're stuck in it, you can always give yourself a waterproof layer.

Great tip, makes perfect sense. Those thin ponchos you get at a theme park are perfect. Thanks for the great idea

Climashield is a great insulation layer. I use it when I make comforters. Main advantage for sewing is it doesn't require to be sewn in place. Down and other synthetics require those sewn in squares (quilting) to keep them in place. Climashield allows for a cleaner look and really good insulation.

Thanks for your review! I tried to get my hand on this model. Unfortunately it is not possible to buy one in Switzerland in my size. I tried the Helikon Squall hard shell. Strangely the neck part of the jacket was way to small. So it was totally uncomfortable to wear closed. I had to return it.

Oh no way. I was looking to pick up a Squall. I'll definitely keep that in mind whilst testing it out. Weirdly, I had a Rab double pile jacket a few years back that was similar. I couldn't zip it up without feeling uncomfortable wearing it. You'd think they'd make a few test lines and get people it's targeted for and ask them to try it on

Thanks for the review. Is this not too warm for UK climate even at its coldest? Thank you

Yes and no 🤣 were lucky as a collection of islands that the air in the winter coming off the Atlantic is slightly warmer where even here in the Moorlands the temperature can drop below 0 into minus figures. I'm not too far away from Flash which is the highest village in England. Further north in Scotland the numbers get even lower. It's not the crazy low number out European cousins get over the channel though. My wife took this skiing at a dry ski slope the other day as it was about 2c and it wasn't too hot for her. Even though it's designed for low temperatures it's still breathable for the 'not so low' temperatures 🤙

@@MoorlanderEDC Thanks for the reply, that is very helpful. I am torn between the Level 7 and the Wolfhound which I believe to be the Level 7's cooler version. I am looking for a jacket to use for things like airsft which will require rigorous movement but worried L7 will be too hot. That said I am slender and have Raynaud's disease too so my hands tend to get very cold. I wonder if you have any further advice on sizing please. I am 36 inch / 91cm chest. One seller called Woodland-Tactical on the bay of E lists the XS as 47 inch / 121 cm. On Heli official site it says XS is 42 inch / 107 cm. I am finding it a bit confusing but it sounds like they run very large? I am worried about returns too as the Coyote colour isn't in stock UK so want to avoid having to make a return to the out of the country. Thanks again!

@WestonzoylandSpeedWatchers you're more than welcome my friend. I think the level 7 maybe be too hot. I'm guessing you play outside and assuming you'll have a plate carrier on as well. The Wolfhound is still very warm but it's also lighter weight too. Make sure to check out my Gunfighter jacket content as well. It's a fleece lined softshell. The only down side of the Wolfhound is the outer. If you're climbing through trees and stuff it's not as strong, where as the gun fighter is still warm and the outer is way stronger. I've recently played airsoft in mind and it's kept me warm all day, plus I didn't worry at all about crawling or climbing through bushes. I hope that helps

@@MoorlanderEDC Cheers mate. I normally wear a light weight set up these days. Chinned my plate carrier off and now use a battle belt type thing. Guessing the L7 is a bit more durable fabric wise than the Wolfhound, but yes will check out the gunfighter too. Thanks again.

Great review! There were some reviews saying the nylon shell was thin and fragile, do you find this to be true? Was looking for a more durable, thicker nylon. Also a lot of mentions of the zipper catching a lot and failing within months. How is your jacket holding up?
@MoorlanderEDC
@MoorlanderEDC Ай бұрын
Mine's holding up fine. I will admit that I struggle with a lot of zips where they're double zips. They all seem to be a bit of a pain. As for the nylon. I'd say it's great. If you're going to be rolling around on the floor, crawling around on your elbows then there's going to be some where and tear. There's no additional reinforcement there. The temperatures have dropped here quite a bit in the last few weeks and this jacket has really helps.. I hope this helps you

@@MoorlanderEDC Definitely helps a lot. I don't know much about climashield other than it being synthetic insulation but is it puffy like down with some volume to it or thinner? Trying to gauge what size to go with. Thanks again!
@MoorlanderEDC
@MoorlanderEDC Ай бұрын
@@sl1237 It does have some volume to it however it's more firm that down. Climashield is a tightly meshed up fibre that's really long to it won't end up with blank spots like you can get with down. You'll feel warmer and it'll be evenly spread across you. This jacket is also packable in a small bag that comes with it so even though it's more dense, it's can be squashed down as well. It's a great insulator and use by higher end companies like Carinthia too

I haven't been down to that low in it. The lowest I've been is roughly -5c. I've checked the Helikon-Tex website as it doesn't show a full temperature range. Personally, I'd say from from limited experience of those temperature it would be fine. 100g Climashield is a great insulator, plus with a few layers beneath you'll be OK. Hopefully if others read this comment who have experienced these low temps they'll comment as well

Nice … but expensive for just knocking about in the woods in. I feel for the money, I wouldn’t want to be doing half the stuff I would be doing in it, tbh. It would get wrecked. All the best👍🏾😉🇬🇧

Fair enough, that's a fair comment. It's definitely a tough exterior, however if you're bush whacking and need something tougher you'd probably be better with something like the Woodsman with a Wolfhound jacket beneath. They make an amazing combination

Another feature of this jacket is that there is a zipper cover on the collar that will keep your beard from getting into the zipper when it’s zipped up all of the way. One minor complaint is that the zipper is on the opposite side (lefty) vs every other jacket I have.

i think on amazon a couple of years back you could get em for 139 pounds but now 179, so must be the cost of the insulation and maybe shipping costs as well,one thing i did wonder is i remember you saying the wolfhound had a rustle to it when you moved,is it the same with the level 7?
@MoorlanderEDC
@MoorlanderEDC 11 ай бұрын
I'd say the wolfhound rustles way less than the Level 7. The Wolfhound sounds more like a light synthetic sleeping bag. There's a rustle but it's not overly load and if you wear it under another layer it's hardly noticeable. The nylon on the Level 7 is thicker and more ridged (but not super ridged, just not as free flowing as the wolfhound) so you definitely hear the rustling more. It almost sounds like a hard shell than a softshell Hope that helps buddy
