Feel read to conquer the wilderness with this brilliant 18 litre backpack. The Bergen from Helikon-Tex is perfect for day walks, weekends on a small camp or commuting to work. Highly recommended

love my bergen, added straps to the bottom webbing and carry my small tent there, kitchen in the big external pocket, and rest is just water, food and extra clothing, fit for multi-day adventures :)

It’s an homage to the traditional Bergan’s of Norway style packs that were adopted by the British Army and made famous by the SAS and Commandos during World War 2. Most modern large military rucksacks are descended from or inspired by those packs. The term Bergen is a corruption of the name Bergan.

More than enough, use my Helikon Bergen for mountain walks and bushcraft days. Mid summer I reckon it will do an overnighter easy. I just bought the Helikon Matilda for 1-3 day Mountain/Bushcraft trips, it’s superb and bizarrely at 35L main chamber it’s cavernous. Only snag is they really should make it in the same Cordura material as the Bergen, that would make it perfect. What gets me is the shear value of these packs, their retail is nuts for what you get compared to other makes. Great stuff 👍

That's a "busy" pack there mate! Being an old school Ranger, I'm quite satisfied with my old ALICE medium pack. But, since the Tactical Teddy Bear approves this unit, I'll bow to his legendary wisdom.😬 Great video my friend!👍

With additional straps, molle pouches etc, my Bergen is sufficient for a couple of nights away. I do have a couple of different packing lists for different seasons/ scenarios etc. Because I love it so much I have learned to adapt my load to suit. I’d recommend it to anyone!

Now she is happy with this pack and i had an excuse to buy myself the Eberlestock H31 Bandit 😎 I am looking forward to seeing your video on the new Foxhole bag from Helikon Tex. Thank you very much for your videos, Sir! Kind greetings from germany 🤘🏻

Hey mate! So, I'm looking for a new small pack so I can use in one day hikings and riding my motorcycle. I was undecided about the Racoon MK2, Ratel MK2 and the Bergen. Well... Looks like you just sold me one of those. This is what i need no doubt. I already have the backpack used at the French "Armée de Terre", that is big enough for multiple days and it actually looks like a mix between the Raccoon and the Ratel. So this one is more distinctive, smaller but with lot of room! Looks like a 25l and not 18l. Thank you very much! Cheers from Portugal!!

Hello from over the hill, I have had this pack for over 3 years, old school like me, excellent piece of kit, I am built like a bear, this is really comfortable, the more you carry the less you know, big up Mil 1st, don't buy direct from Helikon, as new rules with the EU is that you may have wait 6 to 10 weeks for a refund.

Thank you for a very thorough video. I am having a hard time deciding on what backpack I want to buy. I already have the very simple Savotta 202 LJK, which I use every day, but it is obviously not the pack for going out to sleep in a forest for a few days. I want to go for a pack that I can take hunting, bicycling and solo (stealth) camping. I think I have narrowed my choices down to either this or the Savotta Jääkäri M. You have given both glowing reviews... but which one is your favourite? Thanks!

Hey man, I’ve recently found your channel and really rate your reviews. The way you present everything is great, clear to see and entertaining. This is another great video, but I do have a few questions. How did you find it taking it on your commute? Do you think it would make a good EDC backpack, carrying a laptop, food and the usual extra bits a pieces? Obviously I can see from your review that it would carry these things but I wondered what your opinion is on how well it does as an EDC option. Also does it blend in well enough around town etc or does it stand out as being a bit different. As a side note, what is the pouch you take out at around 7 mins with your catapult, it looks ideal? Thanks 👍

Hi there, thank you for the kind words. Yes, it works perfectly as an EDC/everyday bag. The size is a limiting factor however I used it for my daily commute to work and it was great. Main compartment had my 16" laptop (very snug fit), tech case and note pads, I used the outer pockets to hold my mouse, power cables and headphones. The outside pockets are surprisingly large and will holder larger objected easily. It'll definitely make you consider more items as to whether they're needed or not. You could even add some gym kit for after work however you're training shoes definitely won't fit in with everything The pouch is from a company called Passenger. They make very nice pouches, bags and clothes too. They have a very 80s/surfing aesthetic and use some great material too. I bought that pouch years ago so they might not have them any more however I'm sure they'll have similar versions - www.passenger-clothing.com/ Also check out Topo Designs. They make similar pouches in plenty of different sizes and have a similar aesthetic - bit.ly/3SCIp1x Have a great weekend

I've got a Matilda. Love it, not to the point of dry humping LOL. The Bergen looks like its perfect for wearing with PLCE or other belt kit. I appreciate that this guy didn't hang loose dangling stuff all over his pack. But what is it with axes? Everybody wants to tote an axe. Y'all gonna build a cabin?

Thanks for another great review. At risk of starting an argument, I would have said that a bergen was a large military frame rucksack of at least 50l. See the Warrior Assault Systems BMF Bergen for comparison, which comes in at an eye watering 100L I think that carrying this up Pen y Fan would lead to feelings of distinct backpack inadequacy. 😂

I like the Viper Brands. Solid gear at fair prices. I only own a battle belt and a MOLLE Yoke in this brand, but they are made well. Also, I only paid about $20 CAD for the belt and about $17 CAD for the yoke. (was around 8 years ago)@@MoorlanderEDC

Helikon kit is outstanding for what it is. I've got the mud/clay coloured bergen and it's hands down the best daysack I've ever had. Yes, it's expensive but it's an investment. A British army issue NI pack is a cheaper option and absolutely bomb proof but I just prefer the Helikon bergen.

I'm very impressed with Helikon. I use kit from multiple brands, high end and low end. For me Helikon comes into its own for value when doing woodland/bush craft camps. Their kit is durable but also affordable. Should I burn, rip or wear it out, I can replace it. My higher end kit (more suited for the moutains) is harder to replace due to the price. Helikon, imo, are at a perfect price point. I've got a number of bits from them that i will default to on a woodland camp in a few weeks.

I keep going back and forth about whether to buy this or not. Still not convinced at this point. I've heard nothing but bad things about Military1st internationally. Wrong sizes, including sending adults, kids sized clothing, ridiculous refund procedure which ends up costing people more than the item if they were to go through with the refund. I'm in Australia and they pretend to have an "Australian" store when in reality they drop ship from the UK. Just the fact they are deceitful about their location is enough for me not to shop with them. No walk in shop. They might be ok if you live in the UK but literally everything I have read about them internationally is AVOID, AVOID, AVIOD especially for clothes.
