Very clever to hang this pack up when reviewing it. Lot of these guys do the desktop style review and its awkward to see the compartments, etc. Hanging it up makes it easy to see how it will fit on your but also display all the pockets etc. Props to you

I've had a bunch of Rush packs over the last decade but the one in particular that I have beat the snot out of is my Rush 12. It's over a decade old and it started out as my edc and then I use it now as a weight training bag. I honestly thought it would fail at some point because I was brutal to it. 70+ lbs inside in rigorous training and took everything I threw at it. The only failure was the D-ring on the sternum strap (it shattered but the bag still works). Great bags!

I own the 12, 24, and 72. The 12 is my oldest one (10+ years) and my wife uses it for travel. Still looks great. She has taken it all over the states and to Haiti. I did upgrade my Rush 24 1.0 to the 2.0 for the CCW pocket.

@CorruptionManX no 1.0 does not. I was stating that with as old as mine is it is still holding up like new. I liked the inside of 1.0 better but I use the 2.0 ccw for water bottle carriers. Can fit 2 48oz nalgenese in that spot as well as my 14 inch laptop or 13 inch ipad. Also the sunglass spot opens wider. To me, it's worth the upgrade. :)

Excellent review. I just ordered my 24. I've been thinking for while of adding this to my 72 which I love because of the many compartments. The 72 is my first choice for long car trips of a week or more. It's so easy to stay organised during this time. For the shorter trips usually by air, I have been eyeing the 24 for some time and finally, with a week away at a conference, I've pulled the trigger on the 24 to cover my needs for this sort of travel. The 72 is clearly built to last and it sounds like the 24 is too. Now the temptation to add the 12 for my commute to work 😅 Lets face it, travelling is always somewhat stressful but a good pack can make the whole thing an enjoyable experience. I agree with you about the extra compression strap.

Awesome review! Happy to see more people like this style of packs. I fell in love with the rush series 10 years ago. I got the sandstone 12, 24 and 72. The 12 was my daily companion with water, first aid, some tools and cover. The 24 was perfect for the weekends. The 72 however I had setup as a bug out bag. Unfortunately for the 72, being fully loaded, I came to the conclusion that my length of 184cm didn't play well with the load distribution. So I sold that one. Nowadays I use the 24 as my EDC when going out with the family. It's perfect for that bit of extra kit and food you need to provide them along the day. I forgot to mention: after 10 years still like new!

I've been using the Rush 12 for at least 5 years now. Mostly for hiking and bushcraft. I can definetly confirm that they're really build to last. I haven't been treating my pack well. Hi John. Thank you for the kind words. I think there'll be plenty of people like yourself who still love the original. I think the updates 5.11 have been subtle and maybe not enough for many to feel they need to upgrade. Although I didn't touch on it in the content here, I think a lot of the other changes we don't wee will be in the manufacturing process. How they're put together and the fabric sections are cut. After making the original for so long, I imagine new processes have made them easier and cheaper for them to produce. Have a great week buddy

I’m glad I bought the original version of this pack. Not sure what they were thinking of off body CCW??? Rain would drown your weapon in this pack if you choose to use the pouch. Also they are straying from the reason they designed this pack in the first place. I’m not bringing a laptop on anything I’m doing in the woods or survival situation. No drainage is an issue on this pack. With the addition of the laptop sleeve they eliminated the two pouches inside too. I added compression straps to the bottom using the pack to pack straps that 5:11 sells. Still a great pack, no matter what version you get. Anyway thanks for your review of this pack and video.

Hello Moorlander EDC, congratulations on this great presentation of the 5.11 Rush Pack. I have been using the older version since 2008 and have been all over the world with this tactical pack. Mostly I carried clothes for a few days, but also various mission material. The backpack still looks like new, although it has often been badly treated in hatracks on planes by other passengers' hard cases. Thumbs up for this review and this backpack, which I can really recommend as well. Anything you want to do with it, it will go through with you.

I have the v1 version for almost 11 years. I can't say it looks like new. But it still does its job. I've lost one of the bottom rings from a water-out hole - I was afraid the bottom would clash, but it's still able to carry weight for the last 8 years. The thing I missed a lot was a place for a laptop. I used a hydration pocket for it where 15-inch laptops fit well. P.S. When I bought it in December 2013, it was already hot in Kyiv during the Revolution of Dignity. The guy in the shop, as a joke, suggested replacing the hard plate from the back with an armor plate.

This backpacks older version, used to have 2 issues. 1 was the stitching, especialy on the shoulder straps area, where the straps are swean,(that stitching in both sides used to fail after a while). Also the lack of belt straps. These are the reasons why, I upgraded to the Tasmanian Tiger Mission Pack MK II, which I watched 5-6 times your review on it, before I get it!! The quaity is night and day in my opinion. Just the fact, that it can carry more weight and make it feel way less than what you actually carry, is enough reason ,to claim that! Keep it up mate, I really like your reviews and the fact, that you always bring some of the best, if not the best gear on your videos!! Cheers

5.11 definitely went through a period of issues with their packs and quality control. They've certainly addressed those issues. I've had a few people mention the Rush 24 and the Mission Pack and I think this would be a great piece of content to make. On one hand you have the Rush. It's made like a tank and is great value for money. On the other you have the Mission that's also a brutally strong pack, that adds more features for the extra price. It gives great choice in the market. I think there's a definite US home grown factor with the Rush which has made it the easy choice for US troops and backpackers alike. Really appreciate your kind works my friend. Thank you for you continued support. Have a great weekend 👍

I've had a Rush 24 version 1 for just over 5 years. It's used and abused most days (Monday - Friday daily use for work and occasional weekend use) and it looks the same as it did the day it came out of the packet, despite being abused and frequently overloaded. Absolutely tough as nails. I think the Rush 24 is literally the perfect 24 hour / EDC pack. I fitted a MOLLE Nalgene carrier to the side of mine.

I have the original rush 24. Using it for 11-years, it’s still going but it’s starting to show it’s age. Color is fine but the seems for the compression straps are starting to pop as well on the bottom and the bungee inside failed a year ago. I’ve used mine for an edc bag for work and it’s flown millions of miles and lived on the passenger floor of numerous vehicles. It’s been in data centers and rural sites Used it for a range bag and put a 30-cal ammo can in it for a pistol class and surprisingly it didn’t tear any of the fabric. Plus the countless other adventures it went on. For lower compression straps I recommend to people is 5.11 sells a tier system for the rush series, which is supposed to be used to strap the 12 to a 72. But you can set them up as compression straps for the 24 and it makes it in my mind the ultimate all around bag because you can compress it down really thin and expand it out when needed and still keep things where you want them to be.

Hi Adam. I'd say that's a glowing report on how well these packs can do. That's definitely what you'd class as heavy use 👍thank for the suggestions on the compression straps. Have a great week buddy

Hi Moorlander. First of all I want to congratulate you for the awesome reviews that you make. Very enlightening and precise and with a lot of quality. I am a huge fan of your work and, gladly, your subscriber. In this review, in particular, I just want to add some more details from my experience owning 2 rush 24 2.0, 1 rush 12 and also a Mission Pack from Tasmanian Tiger. I think that the quality, resistance and toughness of the American 5.11 are unbeatable. The Mission Pack is my oldest and my first military style pack and i find it quite comfortable and its my first choice in European manufacturers. Comparing with 5.11 , the cordura is less resistant (700D I think against 1050D) and has less compartments and lack of admin compartments but I find it more comfortable fully loaded on my back having the same capacity, 37 L when compared with the Rush 24. On the other hand, 5.11 rush series are extremely resistant and, has you said, after hiking and trowing it to dusty ground it still looks new. Being on the military service and a fan of nature and hiking 5.11 are the best. So, after your brilliant review i Just want to add, from may personal experience the following: the thing that I like the most in the 5.11 rush series is the back panel. I hike under more than 30ºC and the sweat disappears rapidly after a brief pause. The material is almost impermeable. Its amazing and high standard for me since most of the backpacks have some kind of mesh sponge material, comfortable and breathable, but that deteriorates with time due to the sweat. With 5.11 Rush series this doesn't happen. I already had 2 First Tactical Backpacks , probably , 5.11 main competitors in America I was truly disappointed about backpack structure, some how fragile and the backpack color that fades way under sun light. Hope to see a review from you one day about First tactical. Sorry for the extensive comment but I enjoy discussing about backpacks. Keep up the good work.

Hi Paulo. Love this comment my friend. I could also spend all day talking about packs. There's some great detail in here. I've had a lot of people asking about the differences between the Mission and Rush. They're a great comparison if not just to show the differences between them. I really appreciate the lengthy comment and really enjoyed reading it. Have a great week my friend

Great review...brilliant really! I'm in the states, but I had to use the word, "brilliant," even though I didn't once hear you use it. 😃 I love my 5.11 packs and other stuff. I've worn the 5.11 pants (trousers) to back when they were Royal Robbins. Interestingly, I recently added a UK pack to my collection from Karrimor SF. It's a Thor 40. Thanks, again, for a job well-done.

Hi CR. Thank you sir, I appreciate the kind words. I watched a piece of content when 5.11 were talking about where they started and how 5.11 was a climbing term and they were adopted at Quantico by the FBI first. I've had several Karrimor packs. I really need to make some content on them. Hope you're having an awesome weekend 👍

@ravaskadeltorian3329
@ravaskadeltorian3329 Жыл бұрын
@@MoorlanderEDC The Moab 10 is the larger sling bag that is apart of the Rush series. I chose this one because the Moab can be attached to the 72 via the compression strap clips. This makes the 72 a great combination for a go bag/emergency bag set up. All my EDC/get home gear is in the sling bag and if something such as a tornado comes through I just attach the two to each other and I have everything I need together . This makes it so I only have to carry one bag rather then trying to figure out how carry both or transferring gear between bags.

Appreciate your review of this excellent backpack. Have a question about how to correctly thread a water hose from the water compartment to the chest strap. @MoorlanderEDC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, unfortunately yes it's still under the yoke. It's one thing that's always puzzled me about the packs why it's never highlighted when they're testing them. The straps hold the bag against you which add pressure to the water bladder. The blast in the mouth has surprised me a few times 😄 and I've never really filled it was a lot of weight. I hope this helps (or probably now, as the case may be). All the best my friend

Great review, thx a lot ! But when the 2.0 went out, I Rush(ed) to buy the 1.0 : big bargain for a better finish ! U just mention the draining holes missing, but there's also one zipper of an internal pocket missing, and one key holder in the admin poch, and the scratchy pads bottom on the back, and U get one padded compartment more, but U have 2 internal pouches less. Also, in a non urban use, the ccw compartment is a way to get water in a hard place to dry under rainy weather. The draining holes were placed where water can't get in if U carry the bag, and are able to evacuate inside water or air humidity. So, if I carry my laptop inside, I do want them ! All that to say that the 1.0 may still the best to consider. Thx again for Ur great job.

I’ve had a Rush 24 for more than 10 years, but upgraded to the 72 about 5 - 6 years ago. I use them as carry on luggage and then as a work bag and as a run bag when working in more dodgy places. I also had the same stitching problem with the 24, and ended up doing a DIY repair to it in Libya in 2011 with dental floss. I’ve had no such problems with the 72. The amount of stuff I carry I really noticed the absence of a hip belt. They’re a great bag for the things I use them for. They’re not a good hiking bag though. For that I’d prefer my old Berghaus Cyclops Roc or even one of the Karrimor SF range.
@MoorlanderEDC
@MoorlanderEDC 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely agreed on the hiking bag side. They're a real all round style bag. Maybe if you on a short day hike, whereas a proper pack with back support and waist belt always win. I need to make some Karrimor content. Love their gear

@@MoorlanderEDC yes I took the 24 on a short day hike on a day off in Tajikistan. It was ok but I’d have preferred my old Berghaus Munro for the tab. The Rush are good to throw all my gear in the B6 and they withstand the treatment

I got one in June, took it out maybe twice, just saw the other week that the stitching has failed all around the admin pouch so there's a big hole in the side. 5.11 are great and are sending me a new one. Have the 72 and have beaten it up travelling, hiking, bushcrafting, Interrailing... Guess I was unlucky with the 24 but these will last probably longer than the owner, but if there are any faults 5.11 will sort it for you
@MoorlanderEDC
@MoorlanderEDC 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that sounds unusual with the stitching. I guess from time to time there are some faults. It's good that 5.11 recognised that and got a new one sent out. Thanks for watching and commenting buddy

I’ve been using the 2.0 Rush 24 for the last couple of weeks. Everything is great about it EXCEPT the dumb padded laptop section. It’s extremely tedious to pull out my 16 inch MacBook Pro due being tucked back in there.

Got the previous version of this bag; I like it but don't love it. While it is a great bag, it is too 'square' for me, projects too far out from my back. It's comfortable enough, lots of storage options, but I prefer my bags to go a bit more vertical and slender (but that might be my favouring backpacking). Got it (almost brand new) second hand online, so no biggie; I've kept it for bushcraft weekends with the lads, though.

Hey TP, thanks for watching and commenting my friend. Yes, it's easily done. I think 5.11 even have their own additional straps you can buy. It's just a shame that they're not added to the bottom. Most of the weight and movement happens there which is a shame. It's really just a suggestion from me of something I'd change. What do you think of the pack as a whole? Always good to hear other's thoughts

@@MoorlanderEDC Thank you for your answer and the reference to your other review. I understand why the Viktos appeals to you. It looks really really nice. The main compartment seems a little smaller, though... Or perhaps I'm mistaken? After all, it's 25 ltr... None the less, I like the barebones interior of the Rush series so I might stick with that... Thanks for explicitly pointing out the usability for the concealed carrying of a MBP in areas where Macs are frowned upon (and thus that emergency Illustrator-jobb I have been nagging about 😉). Now, I do live in a never-carry-any-pewpew-country, so I can't really claim to have any material knowledge, nor would I actually aspire to. But wouldn't the design of the front of the backpack and the CCW-pocket actually *encourage* water to get in there when raining? Given those lips throughout, any rain getting onto the upper part of the pack looks to naturally drain in that very direction with nothing to stop it but the velcro inside of the CCW-pocket? And given that this velcro sits somewhat lower than the opening it wouldn't be able to prevent seeping through?!? Otherwise it might make a quite useful pocket for a tablet during commutes? How do the 5.11s compare to eg Tasmanian Tiger quality-wise?
@MoorlanderEDC
@MoorlanderEDC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas. You crack me up my friend. 5.11 and TT are close however TT is a tier above. That's not that 5.11 are bad at all. The Rush 24 is like an Abrams Tank. It's almost over build (if that's possible). The Mission uses a 700d cordura which feels just as thought and is lighter. TT would have definitely added a drainage hole in the CCW compartment. 5.11 can make a great pack that's build to last for £100, TT would be twice that. Both great packs done in different ways. Hope this helps and is just twaddle 🤣 have a top week
@ThomasSelig
@ThomasSelig 3 жыл бұрын

@Moorlander EDC 😄 Now, winning the jackpot once wouldn't really be sufficient for TAD gear, would it? 🤣 (To be honest, I do own and at times carry the TT First Responder MKII. Don't use it for its intended purpose, but instead as an incredibly useful modular pack for city overnighters. Use the large part for all overnight gear, then detach the smaller front as flat and still modular daypack. Still one of the most expensive pieces of gear I own, all fancy Fjällräven backcountry packs included -- and definitely in the same price range as TAD gear). Have an unbelievably amazing week!!!

I somehow thought it would be bigger, but I was wrong. 🤷🏻‍♂ The visibility of their black bag is terrible too, which is why I chose the 24 in ranger green. Thanks. I weirdly added the intro as a knod to David Brent from the Office. The Rush 12 is great and I definitely agree with the size. It's a great EDC pack however the extra size of the 24 makes it a wee bit more versatile. My name's Randy 👍

@@MoorlanderEDC Hi Randy :D Oh! That's cool. The Office is my second most favorite TV show, after LOST. The US version, though. The UK version must be great, too. Exactly! I hope I won't regret picking the "ranger green" over the greys since they are more versatile. But then again, their interior is also black. Personally, I would love them to make high-visibility interiors. Maybe with the 3.0's.

The UK and US shows are definitely different. The UK version is very hard to watch as David Brent is even more cringeworthy than Michael Scott. The UK nailed the docu-soap side of perfectly, where as I like the US version for it being so different. Similar characters but more American. Which makes the two great for their own positives and negatives PS. I'll state a pint on beer on you not regretting the Ranger green. Pinky Promise

Construction and material are good, no discussion. But it has some points to improve. I think the pocket for glasses is very fragile. The pocket can't be soft, it looks like you're putting your hand in your pants pocket to get your glasses. Sometimes you make the mistake and put your hand on the lens. If you overfill your backpack, depending on what you put on, it could break your glasses. I hope that version 2.0 fits the case of the glasses, at least. The compartment should be more rigid, to protect them. Another point, the straps on the side should be the same as the AMP backpack, smarter, in my opinion. Normally, to access the main compartment of the backpack, you need to release 2 straps! There's nothing tactical about it. Or you can leave the straps open and they're dangling in front of the backpack. Even if they are open, if you lay down your backpack to open it, the straps are in the way of the zipper. Last point, it should come with a built-in raincoat. Cordura does wet in the rain. Simple things, but that would make a lot of difference.
@MoorlanderEDC
@MoorlanderEDC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Carlos. Yes, it's definitely not a perfect back and there's quite a lot they didn't address when they made this 2.0 version. One of the biggest for me is still the water bladder pocket which is outside of the pack against your back. When you've got a lot of stuff in your pack it creates a lot of pressure against it, which can take you by surprise when you're taking a drink. It's not like water boarding, but it's very close... Something I completely forgot when I made this content. Maybe I'll make a '6 months with the Rush 24 2.0' style piece of content. Hope you're safe and well my friend. Have a great weekend
