I did this bow trip with my girlfriend in mid October 1978. We had to abort because of a storm on the pond, on the way back to Jackman. The guy from the hardware store that had rented us our canoe came and got us at the lake side house of a nice elderly couple. They gave us shelter and let us pull the canoe up on their beach.

1978! Love it. It's great how helpful people can be. I recently got caught in a wicked wind / rain storm and tipped over on a local lake in Massachusetts, soaking wet, no rain jacket, no cell phone b/c I was just doing an hour loop of the lake. I ditched the canoe in the woods and went out to a road where someone helped me out. Came back for the canoe later. Would have been a very cold walk back to the boat launch on a fairly busy road with no leash for my dog either.

@@MTBIKEXC This really needed a "wow" emoticon. Great story. Very LUCKY that you didn't have your phone actually. I guess this is where I need to tell the story of my midnight, drunken canoe trip, after a silly quarrel with my wife, in Lake George, NY, across from Tongue Mountain. I went to the ramp and took an illicit canoe trip to the center of the lake. The stars were amazing. At one point, the ranger came putting by in a patrol boat. I had no running lights, obviously, and just sat quietly till he was gone. Then, like the city slicker I was, I stood up to pee in the lake. The next thing you know, I was IN the lake and could see the dim silhouette against the starlight, of my canoe drifting slowly into darkness. I swam for it, and caught it. I could not get into the canoe from the deep water without tipping it. I tied the line from the canoe to my wrist and back stroked a mile to the opposite shore, which was closer, and didn't find shallow water till I was a few feet from the shore. I climbed back in and paddled back, toward the red, green, and blue lights of port Jerry. My wallet is still at the bottom of lake George.

Looks like you got Wenonah Kevlar canoe did you scrape it up at all I'm debating whether to take the Royalex or Kevlar canoe

We didn't run any rapids in it but over the last few years we've scraped it up pretty bad just doing flat water and got it re-finished by a guy over in NY. I LOVE the lightness of Kevlar but if you don't mind portaging a heavy boat, definitely go with Royalex.
