The actual reason why Pajama Sam 4 and Putt-Putt: Pep's Birthday Surprise came out as they did is more complex than you would think. From what I know, - the Atari, Inc executives at the time didn't want to make anymore of the Junior Adventure games, as making them was far from cheap. - the executives then allowed the team to make more on the condition that they kept costs low, which they agreed to, resulting in much of the art and animation being outsourced to other companies, which would explain why the lip-synching isn't as good as in the previous games, and why they recasted Putt-Putt to Michelle Thorson and Sam to Elisha Ferguson (that, and Pamela Adlon & Nancy Cartwright were probably very busy by then), - the team, once again, at the behest of the Atari executives, was using a new game engine (the Python, later dubbed the YAGA) that they were learning how to use as they were making the games. And you want to know what makes it worse? The crew really did care about wanting to make the game good, but with all of that, plus being put in a time crunch that left them distressed and little time to input more creativity, the game greatly suffered for it when it could've been so much better. It's rather sad that the team went through all of that.

Yeah, it's really sad reading about everything post-acquisition. Humongous deserved better :(

You can tell that they put as much love and care into the art and animation as they could with such a tiny budget and the crunch. The fact that the gameplay isn’t buggy despite switching engines is probably a miracle.

Freddi fish 4 was the only one i had after losing the others in a move, so i played it a LOT. I have them all on steam now but i still come back to 4 the most, i love the atmosphere and gay construction worker sharks

'You're all alone/it's sad to see/I guess you must deserve to be' Is a CRAZY line in a kids game. I think the weirdest thing about PJ Sam 4 is it's not educational.... Sam's games are all about manners, social skills and being the best version of yourself. Don't eat too much junk food, face your fears, be helpful and take responsibility etc. It's never made clear that everything is dirty because Sam's room is dirty. His mom never tells him to clean his room before they can go to the mall etc. It's missing the education part of the edutainment entirely, so it just feels unfocused and confusing.

I really love the pyjama Sam series and the Freddie fish, I've played in French when I was young and they rename Freddie fish to Marine Malice but I was always confused by if it was a girl or boy fish (I'm usure if it's in this vod or the other 😅) and I didn't know there was a 4th pyjama sam (usure if they even translated it). I couldn't make it work on my laptop (steam version) because it doesn't have a disk drive , and I'm not techy enough to make my computer think there is one 😅 but i know and see I'm not missing on much

Freddi Fish 4 wasn't too bad. Still not as up to par as the first three games, but its passable. Pajama Sam 4....wow um....Other than the background art being good, everything else was bad. The voice acting, the 'story', the puzzles (or lack thereof), the overall point and click interface of the environment, the dialogue, the lip syncing, just I could go on and on. Though it may look like a Pajama Sam game, it feels completely soulless.

I'm confused by the hatred towards PJ Sam 4. It isn't as good animation wise, sure, but I think the voice acting is waaay less grating than in the previous three (it was driving me absolutely crazy), and story wise I don't consider it worse than the previous ones. I guess nostalgia may play a huge part for you all here - I never even heard of these games until I was an adult so yeah... PS: I understand thinking it's not as good as the others, but I don't think the level of hatred is deserved, basically! I honestly enjoyed it most than the previous ones.

I remember the biggest thing I hated about this game is that Sam’s voice was different, but I also never knew how to actually win the game. I think I was 12 by the time I “figured it out” after watching my brother win the game. 😅
