I loved how you showed the difference. I have both brushes and have used both but have never tried them side by side. I'm still working on my paint to water ratio and that's different with each of these brushes. Thank you for your simple tutorials!!

That was lovely Clarice, when I first started watching you and fell in love with your beautiful Rose's, I bought the davinci mop brush. My Rose's arent as good as yours, but this is a must have brush for me. So glad I have it. Thank you for this tutorial.

Thank you Clarice for this lovely comparison. I do not have a mop brush, but I do have a few Princeton Silver Black Velvet brushes, so I am definitely going to retry the rose following your steps here. I am such a control freak with my watercolor, so I think for now I need to practice your first rose. Lol (I know that sounds the opposite of what watercolor is.)

I Really appreciate your comparison! Looking at your roses I much prefer the look of the mop roses. But I thought I would have preferred the more sharp silver black roses!… I have and love both of these brushes, but I get more enjoyment when I use my Da Vinci mop. It is soooo nice to hold and paint with. I have sizes 1 down through 10/0. I was looking through KZbin to find something to support my craving for a size 5, and I keep finding it! Lol these brushes are beautiful.

I love this comparison of brushes. I bought these exact brushes. I cannot get the control that you get, (I have practiced for 6 mo.) particularly from the #1 squirrel mop point. I do get that control from a 2/0. Could my number 1 mop be defective?

Thank you for the comparison of these brushes! I own many of the black velvet, & they are definitely my favorite brushes. But, I’ve been eyeing a mop for a very long time, & have been on the fence....do I need it? 🤔 (lol) Thanks to you, I now know what kind of strokes it produces, & the general look it will produce. Thank you for shoving me off the fence....lol! Very Helpful! 🧑🏻‍🎨🌺

Another great video. I love all of your tutorials and have learned so much from you in a short time. One thing that I wish I could develop is your ever so light control of your brush strokes. They just seem so natural when you are painting and mine do not whatsoever. Are there any tricks to developing that or is it just something that comes with practice, practice, practice?

Hey Cheryl! This comment is super late, but you got it, practice gets you there with brush control.

I think the Mop brush and the round number eight can’t quite be compared in this way. The Da Vinci Mop is much bigger than the round no.eight. Perhaps using a no. 12 round would offer the same results. My understanding is that mop brushes are intended for washes in particular because they hold so much water. But I definitely agree that you do wonders with your Da Vinci! And I am sure going to give it a try. I’m not holding my breath for me, Clarice, 'cause you’re a pro. Thanks for your great tutorials.

These are just lovely :) I always seem to get blobs rather than those lovely petals, I guess it's just practice? I might also have too much water or paint on the brush. Any tips appreciated :)

Practice is right. The more you work with them, the more accustomed you get to it. You automatically adjust your water and learn brush control as well.

Thanks for the video! Why are the effects so different though, considering the two brushes are a similar size and hair? I'm trying to understand for example what's the difference betqeen a mop and a round of the damr size, in the same brand and line...
@ClariceGomesdesigns

They are very different brushes. Esp in how they are made. One is softer and other is a bit more rigid. Hope that helps ?

Sorry, are you comparing a synthetic with a squirrel/quill? As well as 2 different brush sizes? That tells far more about water/pigment retention, point precision etc. than the difference between a round and mop.

I'm comparing two of my fave brushes, both contain squirrel hair. One is a mop and one, a regular round. Both fabulous brushes for folks interested in investing but unsure🙂

@@ClariceGomesdesigns Petit Gris is 100% squirrel: "Russian blue squirrel hair is of the highest quality and holds a large volume of water...Huge reservoir lays down large amounts of water ideal for wash and mop techniques". Judging by it's tight springiness, your Silver Black Velvet, unless I am mistaken, is likely squirrel/synthetic blend. The word "Black" refers to the synthetic black hairs. If so, this is like comparing a fine-liner to a highlighter; or as peppers, a capsicum to a Habanero.

@@lisadale7605 as mentioned above, this video was intended to compare the results you can get from using my two fave brushes for painting roses. Which a lot of my followers wanted to see. Thank you for taking the time to share all the info on the brushes. I hope this comment helps clear the point of this video. 🌸🌸🌸

@@lisadale7605 p.s. yes the black velvet is a blend. Again, not focusing on what the brush is made of🙂

@@ClariceGomesdesigns a natural squirrel mop brush is primarily for washes, and won't come to a fine point too. Sable maybe, though this is large. To use it in comparison to a different sized round synthetic blend brush to elucidate what constitutes mop vs. round (your title) is leading your unknowing watchers badly astray. That is not what you claim you did. You can't sub in a sweet pepper for a Habanero in the same recipe without it being different food. You explained none of that. The difference between mop and round is what you said this was about: it's not.
