Automotive sales have slowed down to the point where cars are sitting for years in some cases. 7 of the top 10 slowest selling cars are Mopars right now, which means these cars could be susceptible to the dreaded lot rot. This could lead to multiple issues with brand new cars that no one is talking about. From flat spots on tires, dead batteries, rusted brakes, water in the gasoline, or bigger issues with the engine. I share with you why understanding the rot lot issue important what you need to do to protect yourself.

Especially since there have been virtually no updates besides the widebody package.. pre covid you could find uses scats on dealers in the low to high 20s. . Fastnforward to 2020-2023 you got scats going for 55-60k plus used with over 20k miles smh.. greed finally caught up with dealers AND DODGE

Dealers are really eating crow on all the markups they were trying to push. I tried to get a 392 widebody charger- dealer tried taking on a $10k MSRP - i walked away. They keep texting me till this day (a month later) - told me they would sell at MSRP (event though website advertised price slashed $5k off) Then they said they would honor the web pricing - i check the PO - and they tacked on a $2500 markup - i walked away again. In the Charger/Challenger case it is mostly the dealers fault for tacking on ridiculous markups and the increases interest rates do NOT help either.

I had two local dealers play the game of not committing to a test drive unless I was serious about buying that day as a sales pressure tactic. I have never driven a Challenger and walked away from the brand completely after that experience. Went to Audi and Range Rover and they put me in everything they had on lot to make the sale.

Stellantis is a Franco-Italian conglomerate. They put Carlos Tavares (look him up, especially under Carlos Ghosn @ Renault/Nissan & their 'handiwork') at the helm for a reason. They are running it like they want to, and they do not care. They got rid over over 400 engineers, moving their responsibilities to engineers in Europe & South America. They are purposely killing off the domestic production, especially since the UAW strike. Crank up out, let them sit, go "Broke," Chapter 11, sluff off most UAW production & shift it off shore as much as possible. China is making auto plants in Mexico & are planning to flood the North American market within a few years. They will succeed with the way DC and automakers here think & play the game

Dodge still has its customers, that did not change a bit. The problems will start when the new Charger comes out. And ALL of these problems, even the ones they're having now, is the fault of stellantis. I can't wait till Dodge is back in American ownership.

High performance vehicles aside; the price of the average automobile is out of range of the average worker. I told my grandson back in 2017, "it won't be long till most people can't afford a new vehicle". Even the prices on used vehicles are ridiculous! Between dealers trying to screw their customers, CEOs and Executives making multi million dollar salaries, and labor unions wanting more and more money for working less time; this isn't going to end well. Lot rot will be the norm.

The '23 Scat Pack I just bought had been sitting on the lot for 10 months. The battery had to be replaced. With dirt and dust blowing over, under, around and through that car for that long EVERY nook and cranny had dust in it. It looked like a prop for an old western movie. They actually tried to deliver it COVERED with hard water spots. Had to make a stink to get those removed. The engine bay was filthy. But I'd shopped for over a year and was finally happy with both the color and the price. They'll tell you anything to get it sold, like they told me they'd clean the engine bay (they didn't). But it's just as well because I didn't need some idiot getting under there with a pressure washer. Personally I think if you get the dealer to promise to give the car the once-over, they will promise and they won't do diddly. They aren't going to put one more cent into these cars than they absolutely have to. Good subject to cover Racer, thanks.

We have had new cars sitting on the lot so long that rodents have eaten wires, coolant hose and the battery going bad and won't except a charge. I have replaced lots of Mach E 12 volt batteries because they don't move them and it won't keep the battery charged. On the other cars the batteries lose their ability to run the start stop system. And needs the battery replaced and reset it. Rotors all rusted up and then the brakes make noise until they have the rotors and pads replaced.

Of course a vehicle sitting for long periods is never good, but you don't need to replace rotors & pads just for surface rust. That rotor rust can form within a few hours after just washing your car or after driven in the rain, and will be gone on the next trip. Battery deterioration is a legitimate concern as well as the effects of acid rain and UV rays on the paint & weatherstripping, and potential UV damage to the interior, including shortening of the life of the dashboard & fading of the fabrics. Need deep discounts to move old inventory.

So our crappy gasoline with ethanol goes bad in a few months. So unless they put stabilizer in it, it will start clogging up the fuel system after that. The worst thing you can to any car, new or old. Is let them sit for long periods of time or with very little use. You see this issue really bad with classic car owners. All these nicely restored cars, but they keep breaking down or overheating. The owner gets nervous about driving it, so it sits, which just amplifies the issues. Then you find out the guy barely drives it 1000 miles a year and has done this for years. Sometimes it only see's a few hundred.
@TheOzthewiz
@TheOzthewiz Ай бұрын
The 1000 miles a year is NOT the problem. It is how OFTEN the car is driven! Most owner's manuals will tell you to move the car AT LEAST 15', EVERY TWO WEEKS! This came out of a Lincoln MKZ owner's manual! I am retired, therefore I do not drive more than about 2000 miles a year, but EVERY trip I make is at least 10 miles without shutting off the engine. My "garage queen" is VERY happy with the way she is being treated! lol

When I worked selling cars a few decades ago, the GM would throw a "lot party." On a slow day, he would gather all the salespeople, give them all the keys to the cars, and have them rearrange the lot. Even if it was just one porter, and 500 cars, just moving 25 cars per day would move each car in 20 days. It's not that difficult to keep moving the cars on a regular basis.

Even the Mavericks were marked up $4,000. Maybe that's why I've seen only THREE Mavericks on the streets in a year...

In a way I am glad this has happened, last yearI went to a dealer to trade in my 2015 RT for a scat. They were going to give me 20k for my car, which was good because I have low mileage, even though it’s modded but the scat was 65. I told them that’s pretty high for a 6.4 and they were so arrogant to me and said we’re charging this much because we can and I said just because you can does not mean you should and I walked out. They said we don’t have to lower the price. We’ll get it for that much, and maybe even more. I decided to spend about 12 and put a supercharger on it. Best decision I made and I never looked back so I’m kinda glad to see this is happening because their arrogance now has caught up with them.

Prior to buying my current 2021 Scat Pack Challenger (purchased used in Feb 2024), I bought a brand new (leftover) 2022 R/T Challenger in May of 2023. The build date on the R/T was June 2022 and it had only 18 miles on the odometer when I bought it. At the time, it worried me that it had sat for nearly a year on the lot. Thankfully, I did not notice anything off about it. The paint still looked new, the dash looked new, still had the new car smell, no flat spots on tires, battery was strong, etc. Anyway, as a precaution, during the 500-mile break in, the first 50 miles, I took it extra carefully...literally trying not to go over 2500 rpm (which was not easy in a manual transmission car). I'd recommend similar for anyone buying a new 2023 model now...particularly for the Scat Packs and Hellcats, which have an even stricter 1500-mile break in period than the R/T's 500-mile one.

The gouging has come back to bite them! I'm shocked at how much the MSRP has risen, but then to add on ridiculous markups, they've priced themselves right out of reach for most people. In 2020, I bought my ScatPack Widebody Challenger brand new for less than $50k. That same car's 2023 MSRP is almost $70K today!!

The new things stealerships are doing is taking total price with markup and taking off markup like it's on sale.....example 89k vehicle with a 20k markup...was 109k now sale price 90k😂arrigo stealerships in south florida is doing this....saw several vehicles on showroom floor and lot😮

Windows/door/trunk seals also break down when cars sit for time as well...could end up with moisture in the car even if it's brand new if it has sat in a place that has changing weather too. Up here in the PNW we have salt water everywhere and that as well an that causes extra wear and tear on its own

When any vehicle sits too long without moving, there are many things that happen. 1) Ozone in the air attacks the rubber parts, tires, bushings, wipers, shocks, hoses, gaskets, and belts. Another problem is Sun Damage. Then another is Condensation in any fluid and fuel. Be Very Careful to Check it over Thoroughly if you are considering a purchase. After it has sat for over 1 1/2 years, Offer them 1/2 of the MSRP, and be aware You Will have to replace some things. If they don't take the offer, WALK AWAY.

I was a sales person for Dodge in Delaware. I personally sold Leftover Dodge truck that sat for 7 months. The sales price was 35% Off of the MSRP. And Yes I Know what kind of problems will be found on vehicles that sit for a long period of time, from personal experience. Since most vehicle dealers have to pay Per Diem fees to banks to vehicles sit on their lot, after a period of time they have to Cut their Losses. Vehicles are Depreciating assets. ( unless they are collectable cars) Time and interest rates are whittling away the value of the vehicle. If you want to buy it cheap Pay Cash and own it. I just had breakfast today with 2 of the owners of large dealerships in the Newark, De area. We talk about this type of thing all the time.@@captainamerica9353

In 2016, I saw 2 Challenger Scat Packs on a delivery truck pulling into the dealership. One Black one and one Orange one. I pulled into the dealership and parked by the delivery truck. A few sales people were standing there and I said, I want that orange one right now. I drove it off the lot in less than 2 hours after seeing it on the truck.

Chargers and Challengers are out of production. The factory pushed a lot of them out at the end, believing people would want to buy them up, over time. The purpose was to give the dealers something to sell when there was nothing being made.

@RacerX Thanks for the video. The content was great and very informative. A lot of people don't realize how long used and even new cars can sit on the lot and the impact it has on the vehicles left rotting away. I recently purchased a new D170 and I was very fortunate that my dealership took care of me and didn't charge me over MSRP. Just out of curiosity, during the break-in period of your D-170, did you put 1,500 miles on the M/T stock tires or did you change them out? I hit up Direct Connection and as of yet they don't have a street tire & wheel package for the 170.

I would never buy a "new" car that has been sitting one year let alone two years -your just asking for problems. A Dodge dealership in Titusville PA were knocking 24K off a 2023 Ram 1500 Limited in order to sell it. They had two 2023 Ram pickups with lesser trim and were knocking off 16K off the sticker. Stellantis has priced their cars and trucks and especially Jeeps out of the realm of possibility of average buyer in this USA. We are at the end of 1st quarter of 2024 and these dealerships have rows and rows of leftover 2023's. Dealerships are either going to have to drastically slash their prices, or their Dealer floorplan interest will adversely effect their bottomline. I say let them SUFFER.

I wanted to buy a Power Wagon a year ago. Out of 5 dealers I called to try and place a factory order, only one called me back and they told me they wouldn't commit to selling it at MSRP. I ordered a Land Rover Defender for a similar (within $5k) MSRP, and JLR committed to selling it at that price. The first JLR I called placed the order immediately. CDJR and their dealers have done this to themselves and they deserve the fallout from it, for years.

Very good information. Tires should be replaced every 7 years so the tires on that 2500 Ram have already gone through almost a quarter of their life. Yes the tread looks new but they need to be driven a little to stay supple. Weather and ozone can cause micro cracks. Tires have the date they were made on the sidewall. Check it to see how old they are because blocks of tires are stored till they are put on the wheels and then vehicle. So that two year old Ram may have 4 year old tires.

You're right about lot rot. I bought a new 90 Ford ranger in late 92. By 95 the frame looked like a book that got wet, the frame was de laminating and flaking apart. It was rusting bad. My 23 scat pack was on the show room floor in Tampa, it was totally dead. They had to give me a new battery, they kept trying to charge it a little and start 😬 we insisted they put a new battery in it and they finally did. We ended up not even test driving before we bought it, everything else has been fine but that was 6 months ago. I see some others we looked at back then at other dealerships, still sitting.....they definitely are not moving very fast.

electric cars are great, If they fit your lifestyle and you have all the accommodations you need to have an electric car. Most people do not. My brother has one, but he's now getting bored with it. But that's just my brother. My brother, in-law owns a business. He bought 8 of them. Model S model X a couple of them being plaids. They now have 2 of them left, They were just too difficult to use for a business. But electric cars definitely have their place. That's for sure. You just need to be pretty well set in life to own one.

I've just got to check rubber moldings for dry rot cracking the rubber seals in the door jambs trunk jams because those deals have been compressed for so many days that now that is what they call fit form finish meaning that item whatever it is has now been fitted to form where it has been for so many days. And as he says if the dealer won't do these things simply walk away because if they're not willing to do these things in the beginning they are definitely not going to help you with things in the in the future even under warranty
