In this video I review I knife I hated..Until I used it. Looks can be deceiving. this knife makes no sense till you start using it. I wanted to hate it. Its a half sized Mora Knife but maintains full sized performance.

Honestly, after 10 hours of use, carving wood, and not even stropping it, and it still cuts paper that smoothly, and costs about $25, I would say the edge holding is pretty good.

I'm definitely picking up what your putting down, I bought the Eldris just to say I had one, but I paired it up with my spoon knife and they compliment each other well, I agree this will never be my "go to" knife but it makes a good knife to sit around the fire with and do some carving, thanks for your honest opinion and not jumping on the bandwagon with other folks saying how outstanding this little knife is, it like all knives has it's strengths and weaknesses.

The edge retention is pretty damn impressive, considering the amount of use it's had. There is nothing wrong with Sandvik stainless steels. I have the Garberg in 14C28N, and I love it!

I love Mora especially my Garberg the thing is amazing and the 14C28 steel holds a great edge, I have no idea why people make such a big deal about stainless steel. You are totally right their carbon steel will rust just from being near a rain drop😂 I've had many high carbon steels but that stuff is on a whole different level. The Eldris price point makes ZERO sense $25 is ridiculous! and I usually don't care much but this little thing $25 no freaking way, the new classic 511 is $6 so $19 more for less steel and bright colorful handles wow what a deal.

Good review. I agree that the proportions of the Eldris look weird. But, as you've seen in your use, it does work. It seems like a good companion knife. Given how much you've used it, it looks like it has kept a great edge, considering.

The trick with carbon steels is just to put them away dry, no other maintenance to prevent rust is required in most regions.

The steel is the same as is used on the companion, Kansbol and all there other stainless steel. My Eldris was as sharp as my Kansbol out of the box and could slice my finger off like butter. It is an absolute wonder of a blade and I find myself using it more and more.

I have the Eldris and like it a lot but I like neck knives in general. The handle is super comfy. I wish it had less belly and wish the tip dropped more but other than that it is a home run.

I've looked at the eldris and for years I thought it was the dumbest idea on earth till I watched about a zillion videos on it and about 5 minutes ago I ordered one. I started to see several uses for its tiny size and how you can just drop it in your pocket and use it for skinning or small carving and things. Your right they DO deceive you at first look.

how many times do we have to see someone making wood curly ques?? with a Eldris? I must be the only one on youtube who uses it as a EDC (ON A BELT CLIP) and never cuts any wood!

Thanks for the video - out of curiosity: I have an array of bigger Moras at home and are currently considering getting either the Eldris or the Mora carving knife 120. I am looking for a blade capable of finishing the filigrane and detailled work, so I have my reservations when it comes to the Eldris as the blade itself is rather big compared to the carving blade. Would you recommend the Eldris over the carving blade though?

I’ve got the outdoor wood carving blade (with black handle) it is an absolute dream to whittle wood with. The blade is sharper than belief and very strong for such a small narrow blade. I have the Eldris to and I’d encourage you to get the wood craver.

I'm trying to like this Mora. I've had it since Christmas and have carried it as a neck knife and an EDC knife. I have wanted to like this little knife but about all I like about it so far is the handle. Out of the box the knife I received had an uneven grind and was less than sharp. The multiple grind angles complicate sharpening and the grade of stainless Mora uses in this knife does not seem to hold an edge very well. I would much prefer a high carbon version of this knife. I feel the Eldris is adequate as a secondary, neck-knife but even in that role I would prefer the Mora #1. For an EDC, I prefer my SAK, Farmer with Alox scales.

I'm happy to have an opposite opinion about the Sandvik 12C27 steel (57/58 HRC) of this blade: for me it's very easy to sharpen, the edge lasts a lot and I'm not at all disturbed by the apparently different edge angles of the Eldis. It's just a matter of keeping in mind that it's all scandi grind. Mee too I'm a big fan of the carbon steel, but for a no-frills, carefree knife the inox is absolutely more advisable, especially if a knife like this is designed for people who are not knife-nerds like us. 😊

Who is looking to deceive should be the title. I've owned the Eldris now for about 6 months or so and consider myself quite handy in knife use. I have a very hard time believing that the Eldris was used to carve out the hollow in the Kuksa and also the inner curve on the handle (let alone any major work on the cup as the knife is simply too small for a project like that imo). It is far from being a perfect knife for carving but in a competent pair of hands, some basic carving can be done indeed. But seeing you mentioned the Kuksa was worked on with the Eldris then surely a short clip or two wouldn't of hurt the time line on the review video. I'm neither a lover or a hater of this knife, it has it's uses indeed and can be suitable for edc if it's limitations are taken into consideration. I just feel people are being mislead slightly by this video, just my 2 cents!

At 6 minute mark I said that I used a small silky saw to make a serious of stop cuts to remove bulk of the material. I'd agree that it's not a "perfect" carving knife but i found it easier to use then larger knives and also more comfortable then small folding knives. I don't know how people would be mislead by me just stating my feelings and opinions about the knife. Thanks for watching

After testing/using the Eldris with other Moras (911, Garberg,, Kanbol) & pocket knives (inexpensive & high end), I think the stubby Eldris is a miss instead of a hit. Here are my reasons from use to give the Elders a pass (minuses): - The short 2 inch blade is very, *very limiting in ability* as a 3 in or more folding knife can easily out perform it - The 2 inch knife with a smallish handle *lacks the leverage* just a little bit bigger knives have. - This small but fat Mora is *more fatiguing* in wood work & *more frustrating* for food work than most. The Pluses: - small blade = easier to sharpen - quick to use - all-weather design - tough knife This Eldris should come & go after folks realize it's drawbacks. Folding knives like the larger Swiss Army's & other Moras like the 911 or Mora's Basic line-up are much better users all-round than the Eldris.

Great lakes prepper .....he is saying that based on the lack of technique that you display during this video gives the impression that you may not be capable of carving effectively to accomplish this task. I have no way of knowing whether you did or did not carve it yourself, but having carved items myself I have to admit that it looks as though you may lack some of the basics for doing so. Maybe its just because you are in the middle of doing a video though
