I have both kives plus the recon tanto. I found no problem with controlling the feathers from the black to me it outperform the srk in that department. Batoning is silly putting a 4in blad against a nearly 7in blad. Might as well put it up against the mora pathfinder. But i suppose everyone defferent at knife use. Good video anyways.

Fully agree with your conclusion. For the money the SRK is better as a one tool option. Just slightly amazed yours is a saber grind because the one I have has a slight hollow grind. I wish they would bring back the AUS8 version saber grind but with the smaller ricasso. There's also now an SRK-C and that one again has the saber grind.

The SK5 version is a hollow grind. I have the VG10 and the CPM3V version both Sabre Grinds.

@@nevillesavage2012 Yes indeed. They should go back to saber grind for the SK5 version also. And also think about the tang protruding the handle.

Very interesting video! Would love to see how the SRK would compare to two finish knives, the terävä jääkäripuukko 140 and the m95 sissipuukko, basically "moras on steroids" ;)

I have the Japan SRK in San Mai III that is apparently worth nearly 3x what I paid for it. I was considering selling it and using a Bushcraft Black, but now I’m reconsidering. What are you thoughts on the San Mai version as a beginner bushcraft knife mostly for light batoning and general camp use?

That's funny the exact day my SRK arrived in the mail, this video was posted. My first reaction to it was even though I read the specs before I bought it, it still feels very small.

Very good test and review. I totally agree. I have 3 Moras and they now get zero use or carry with me. In my opinion, they just can't cut it to do what I might need doing when afield. There are too many, much more capable blades out there to choose from. Lots of guys swear by their Moras. I swear at mine. ... Til next time, stay safe, Marty

The SRK-Compact would have been a better comoparison because it's closer in size

What knife is a one to rule them all knife? So i can baton with it and everything?

NO such thing, one knife does certain tasks better than others. I carry a 8in, 6in and a 4in blade, Cold Steel and Mora, plus a hatchet. I do not batton my knives, that's what hatchets are for.

Must admit if I’m going out to baton I grab my srk but it’s not sk5. I think it’s aus8.

Srk is hard to beat at $40 coldsteel will last a lifetime and that's with being abused. I myself don't like mora its more youtube hype they don't hold a edge an always get big chips an rolls unless you convex the grind.
