Hi. In today's episode, we look at the similar patterns followed by nearly all moral panics, whether they're about teenagers eating Tide Pods or nonsense stories about litter boxes in school restrooms. These moral panics may seem silly, but they have very real and dangerous consequences for marginalized groups.

Fun fact: when Matt Walsh is over there talking about "I'm sure it's /millions/" of teens getting gender-affirming medical care it's important to know that there are only 21.5 million teenagers in the US between the ages of 15 and 19. Even if his multiple millions claimed was only 2 million, you surely would have noticed 10% of your town's high school transitioning. There would be no need to call attention to it.

In 2019 when I was in college I took a playwriting class and my professor arranged for a play to be performed that we could get extra credit for seeing. It was a play about trans people and their experiences. He even got the original writer, a trans woman, to perform. The play was clearly for adults, shown at night, and children were not allowed. And my professor still got death threats from people. People calling him with angry messages telling him not to “bring this filth into our town” and other terrible things. I should mention that this was a city in Massachusetts, known for being a blue state. Parents getting angry over something intended for *college students*. It was never about the children. When transphobes say "they can learn when they're older", more often than not means never.

Actually it means ‘we want the first 17 years to be indoctrinating them to not accepting trans people’ instead of, I don’t know a literal two second conversation about pronouns. It’s funny how anything LGBTQ+ related jumps to ‘sexualizing’ children but people have no problem dressing up toddlers for faux dates and asking ‘is that your boy/girl friend when kids of different genders simply like each other’s company and play together a lot.

When they say "they can learn about it when they're older" what they mean is "when our children grow up and engage in politics they will have the same worldview/perspective/opinion on trans people as me, and will thus also be vehemently against it. They will only know about trans/queer people to the extent needed to hate them." They don't want anyone to actually *learn* anything about trans/queer people - they want them to be indoctrinated into hatred of them.

All of these moral panics about trans people effectively end up putting me, a trans woman, in the position of having to clean up the mess. A recent example of this was when I saw a massage therapist a few months ago. I have chronic back pain and was having a really bad flareup; I was desperate for some relief, so I set up an appointment. As the man started massaging me, he asked for my pronouns, and suddenly, before I knew it, I was in a "discussion" with this man about trans issues. I'm not against talking about that stuff, but the conversation quickly escalated. The more I tried to explain to him what my life has been like, and what I've gone through, the more he felt the need to tell me "his opinions" about trans issues. He kept asking questions like: "but you do agree that being trans is kind of a trend with kids now, right?" "what do you think about little kids having trans surgeries?" and "if my son came out as trans, I wouldn't let him have trans healthcare until he was 18. That's just my opinion." He acted like he was so eager to learn, yet no matter how thoroughly I corrected him or explained to him how traumatic it is to grow up with my gender suppressed, he just wouldn't listen because he was already fixated on the next meme about us. So what should have just been a relaxing massage ended up becoming an informal trial in which I was the defense attorney for all of trans people. This man treated me like some weird political curiosity as he touched my trans body. I left in just as much pain as when I came in, but more emotionally exhausted. I'm so envious of cis people who can get a massage, taxi ride, bag of groceries etc. without having to defend their right to exist in public. I hate being treated like a "hot button political issue" rather than a person. I hate that it falls on me to correct every lie when people could fact-check this stuff in their own time.

Thats a thing that always strikes me, by making peoples very existence a topic for debate or a "question" you then force every member of that group to be a PR rep not only is it hidiously unfair to everyone in that group but it makes it so that if just one person in that group does anything objectionable than everyone in group is suddenly accountable for it

I can kind of relate as even though I'm cis female I have a condition that causes me to grow facial hair. I stayed over a friends and forgotten my razor, so the next day before heading home I went to a public restroom and got harassed by another woman in the bathroom because she assumed I was trans, it got to the point I had to threaten to lower my leggings to prove I'm a cis woman just to be left alone. I cannot imagine having to prove how trans people are valid every single damn day when I felt so drained after 1 confrontation.
@tylerscott8015

I'm so sorry that happened to you, and at the absolute worst time and place, too. It blows my mind how people can be so inappropriate to trans people like it's nothing, and yet we're the ones who have to behave. I used to be very open about being trans, I didn't mind stepping up to being "that trans guy" someone knows, because I understood the value in cis people being able to recognize us as just regular people. Trans discussion was barely in the mainstream when I came out, people were generally just curious back then, but now? Now I don't tell anyone I'm trans, and I feel like I'm hiding some shameful secret, even though I have a lot of pride in my identity and my journey. In this political climate I don't know if I could handle having to deal with people's preconceived notions and theories, because now "that trans person" they know is the boogieman from the media. I recognize the huge privilege I have in being able to live "stealth", even if that's never been the life I necessarily wanted for myself. My partner (nonbinary) recently made the choice to start presenting as male again after many years living as a woman because they could not find or keep any work. It broke my fucking heart seeing the stress and anxiety she went through from being let go from job after job when there was nothing she was doing wrong and nothing she could've done differently to avoid it. Without getting into all the details, it had to be transphobia, but of course it was never overt. Ever since making that change, all of a sudden he's the model employee and he's making friends and receiving praise and recognition, from multiple employers now. I'm so fucking happy that he's being treated right and that he's taking it all in stride but I'm also fucking furious that 'she' was somehow never good enough. Sorry I'm dumping all of this here, It's been a very wild and turbulent few years and I've found myself completely cut off from my community. I was laid off from a job that had a very big lgbt presence and now find myself working labour in a warehouse where 100% of my shift is straight men. It's stifling, to say the very least, and I've had to keep all the struggle and heartache bottled up. We're the big hot topic at the moment and yet we can't even talk about how much it's messing with our day to day lives, and even just our ability to live, cuz as much as everyone wants to talk about us, nobody seems to want to listen. Anyway, videos like this one give me hope that there are still many reasonable people out there who will stick up for us, and that this will be something we can all look back on one day and think, damn that was pretty stupid, huh?

Where do people get off on doing that? It boggles my brain, frankly. I don't think I've ever engaged in the "But don't you think..." loaded questioning of someone who belonged to a certain group. I've definitely asked people about their experiences and opinions, yes, but such loaded questions strike me as presumptuous, pathetic, and dishonest. It's like, um, dude, which one of us is the (in this case) trans person here? Also, YOU paid HIM for a massage; he didn't pay you to educate him or, especially, massage his preexisting worldview. People have done the same thing to me as well on various topics, and it's so bloody obnoxious!

all of this stuff about furrys and litterboxes in bathrooms around trans issues reminds me so much of how like 10 years ago people kept saying stuff like "if gay people can get married whats stopping people from marrying their dogs" it kind of goes without saying that its predictable and fucked up that people keep framing lgbt issues as slippery slopes to this shit, but its insane that its so blatant and horrific and yet it works on people

It's going to get much, much worse with the expansion of furries (not like that). Furries act as such a good argument for them because we are often cringe, and because of some of the (thankfully few) fucked up people that are somehow "tolerated" in the community. Occasionally a zoophile will get publicly shamed and ousted, but there is never any big hunt of them sadly. Oh also the furry community is massively overrepresented in queer folks so they can also be used as an example of how "degenerate" and "uncivilised" queer people are in general. "If this one community of ~50% queer people is like this, then all queer people must be!"

The Netherlands enacted gay marriages in 1987 and while there was some moral outrage the government just didn't listen and instead listened to what the majority of the Dutch public voted for. And the result was.....not much. Gay people are only 5% of the population and large numbers of people these days just don't get married. Also most of the time people aren't into each other's houses but are out in public, in offices, in parks or whatever else. If a gay man is at the office what does it matter if he has a husband rather than a wife? If a woman is taking out her dog what does it matter if she is single or has a wife? Public displays of intimate affection are considered taboo both gay and straight so it's not like they could do improper stuff. If talking about sex too much how often does a man brag about how he hammered his cock into his wife? Some do and they are asocial and improper regardless of straight or gay, saying such things was not allowed for straight people so it's not allowed for gay people either. I think that's the most important thing to take from it. That the result of gay marriage was pretty much nothing. It made gay people a little happier and reduced homophobia but in society if a man is gay or straight is utterly irrelevant for 99,99% of the time. Gay people didn't take over society either as again they are a small minority and many times people don't even know a friend of them is gay despite there being no prejudice against it, it's usually just not relevant enough to bring up. Privacy is a highly valued thing in Dutch society and asking people about things that don't concern you is considered very rude. Asking a man if he's married is considered rude and judgmental and will likely be answered by "What business is that of yours?".

Trans women project their own misogyny on women. They have a vague idea of what it is to be a woman but they don't , they'll never have to go through the same misogynistic, demeaning shit women have to go through while at the same time they pretend to know what it is to be a women. Hell, I don't even know what it is to be a woman since it's been DEFINED BY MEN since the time humans were able to walk!
@thecreatornooj1328
@thecreatornooj1328 Жыл бұрын
@@helpanimals- This is factually untrue on quite a few levels. Trans women receive exactly the same shit that all women do, and then they also have to deal with their own stigma. I wanna start my long response to someone who probably isn't going to listen by saying that someone has convinced you that you should be afraid of trans people in general because they're after women, you, and your kids. I want you to think about why a group in power would attempt to convince you that an entire population with a unique physiological condition related to gender identity is a threat. Trans people are not the devil, they are people like us. The only thing that sets us apart is their unique physiological traits. And on misogyny: society will treat anyone that presents with femininity with the same misogyny that all women, including trans women, receive. People don't have x-ray vision to see inside people's pants, so if they're going to be misogynistic and their target presents like a woman, they become a victim. And, the majority of humans with a brain understand that a person's identity is more than genitalia. Overall, we should be uniting to end our patriarchal social issues rather than taking pitchforks to each other for being born differently. Now, I'm going to get pointed. let's talk about what it means to be a woman. If your definition is exclusive to people with vaginas who give birth, you're cutting out infertile women, as well as intersex women. That definition excludes women with biological variations. Not to mention, it's misogynistic. that makes you a hypocrite. Furthermore, trans women ARE women with biological variations. There are at least 16 primary and secondary sex characteristics that you could use to assign someone a "gender" and two or three of those are related to genitalia, which TERFS like you seem to be obsessed with. Functionally, a trans woman is a woman born with a penis that we force into a man's role. And the inverse is true of trans men. I'm running out of space and I think this response is already approaching the realm of far too long, so I encourage you to set your vitriol aside and examine why you've been taught to hate a group of people with a physiological condition that makes a patriarchal society uncomfortable.

You do know all of those things develop separately, and also have more than two settings right? Besides which, I've yet to meet a woman or other person of the feminine persuasion who actually liked the word "female". It generally only gets used as a way to put people down. I could not imagine having this issue as well as feeling I was born in the wrong sex - it would be so crushing to be stuck in that fleshy prison. They caused me chronic back pain and chronic abuse from folks around me who often felt that I grew them big on purpose to get attention and, therefore, they could touch and talk about them as they wanted. Once my girls were reduced, the number of creeps leering at me was reduced, and I began to have a healthy and loving relationship with my body. As a trans man, it’s absurd to me to consider my own health and medical care as a moral panic. It shouldn’t be! I’ve been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, have had that diagnosis since I was 19 years old. Have gone through a therapist and an endocrinologist to get the transitional care I need... At no point have I been “transing the kids” or what fucking ever? If there are indeed ‘hordes’ of middle schoolers rushing into hormone therapy when such medication for their situation is unnecessary... Why is it the whole community including myself must take the fall? What should I be doing instead in their eyes? According to everything I know: I’m taking the proper actions for my life and wellness. Kids of course explore identity all the time? It’s not unusual! All you gotta do is listen to them, hear them out, and if they end up being cis after all that’s cool too! I may have heavily repressed as a minor, but that doesn’t mean ALL kids have to do that. If there’s any concern that they aren’t experiencing dysphoria? Good news! Social transition is only social with no long term effects and can be undone quite easily. And most surgeons (at least for FTM boys) don’t do any sort of operations until 18. And even then, you need letters from a therapist to sign off on it. It’s almost like? There’s a system set up to medically care for us? And it’s not this mass hysteria overnight werewolf transformation into weird freaks! Or whatever they think happens to us instead of just taking medicine like a normal person. (Though it’d be nice to have a better system...)

Rightoid defensiveness is not a rational belief and cannot be rationally dismantled. It is about power and ego preservation for them. Rightoids derive their self-concept from the “type” of person they are, which they extrapolate into social roles. Anyone who points out that these types and social roles are arbitrary is threatening their sense of identity, and they will defend themselves with violence if necessary. They are perpetually insecure people who cannot form their own sense of meaning. Someone must give it to them. This is how rightoid logic regularly turns genocidal. They perceive the mere existence of others as an attack against them, which must be defended against.

There was also a wild moral panic when the Netherlands legalized gay marriage in 1987 and acknowledged trans rights 2 years later. Did anything come of that legislation for the everyday Dutchmen? No not really. Many Dutch don't even know the laws exist and react largely with disinterest if heard that someone is gay or trans. Key part being disinterest and not judgement. Being gay is just considered to be a quite minor part of someone's character. Often being a nerd is a far more relevant thing. Fun fact: the frivolous lawsuit moral panic has also been used to create the idea of "drive-by lawsuits"--that disabled people are suing businesses over ADA-noncompliance for profit (when surely ADA-compliance only matters if the disabled person regularly uses the business). Since the biggest piece of disability rights law we have basically requires that disabled people SUE in order to make sure they have access to things, it's been easy to create a bogeyman about evil disabled people attacking innocent business owners.

That's not what "drive-by lawsuits" are at all. There are so-called advocacy groups who drive by parking lots looking for violations to sue over, usually sending a threat letter first to extort money. This is a thing that has happened in multiple locations. One man in Carmichael, CA personally filed over 4000 such lawsuits, and another group in Arizona had the stated intent to file over a million before a news reporter exposed their chicanery which included shopping for plaintiffs and lying to them and in their filings. And, no, it doesn't require anybody to sue; most disabled people and legitimate advocacy groups simply talk to the business or property owner and get things corrected without any need for lawyers on either side. There are the same percentage of evil disabled folk as their are evil non-disabled folk. And in both of the cases I cited, there was an actual disabled person at the heart of the matter, though that's likely simply a matter of them being more aware of the potential to make some quick cash. After all, the Carmichael guy just pleaded guilty to tax fraud and owes some $250,000.00 for under-reporting his income. How many millions did he make that he still owes that much after having paid a portion of his tax liability over the three years in question?

About 10 years ago I was involved with a local drag king troupe. Once a month we’d perform an early show and a late show. The early show was all-ages. Kids were welcome to attend and perform their own numbers if they wanted. When I say kids, they were usually Jr. High or High School aged. We were all selective about our content and costuming because there is nothing about queer folk that makes us unable to adapt to different audiences and understand context. Performers wouldn’t wear ‘packers’ or perform ‘inappropriate’ numbers. It was important to us that the show could be a welcoming environment where queer youth could gather and hangout together. Many also brought their family or friends to watch them perform. It was great! A couple of hours later we would have an 18+ show. The bar was open and many numbers were raunchy or addressed serious (potentially triggering) topics. Performances would often be audacious and experimental. It was also great! Both shows were drag shows. We used most of the (small) entry fees collected to provide funding for a local queer youth group (volunteer-led by a couple of our troupe members). This allowed their attendees to do some fun activities like attend a movie at the theatre or have craft supplies. Lip syncing a drag number can be a fun way to perform and build confidence. In one way, it’s like reverse karaoke - you don’t have to be able to sing to put together a fun outfit, character, and performance. Going onstage in front of a bunch of people can be really scary and vulnerable. Being able to perform as someone else can be liberating and help you realize you might enjoy performing even if you’ve always been more shy. Many people can relate to this experience in performing in a play during their school years. They have more in common than some folks might think. It really upsets me when people demonize drag or insist it is inherently sexual. That’s like saying all music or movies are inherently sexual. Instead, I’ve seen it expressed in a multiplicity of forms and with just as wide a range of intentions. We aren’t the ones acting as a threat to these kids. It’s those folks panicking people into a frothing rage about something they simply don’t understand. It’s the ones making threats of violence or those showing up with weapons to venues claiming to be there to ‘protect’ the children.

Anyone who is losing their sex drive as a result of treatment for anxiety or depression should consider reading up on vilazodone, which went generic last year and was previously prohibitively expensive under the trade name Viibryd. It's an obscure medication that not many health professionals know about, but it is generally prescribed to people who are in this particular boat. I don't have any statistics, but I do have anecdotal evidence that it has saved at least 1 marriage. I am also not a doctor and cannot give medical advice, I am sure there are many people for whom it would be a bad match. I'm only mentioning it in this context because, as I said, it's obscure but now much more affordable.

Some other methods to be well aware of: - If the thingy is focusing heavily on kids, be skeptical, because talking about kids is precisely how you get parent's higher brain functions to shut down. - If anybody is trying to whip you into a panic as opposed to calmly addressing the problem, they should not be believed or trusted. People who know what they're doing in emergencies try to keep people calm, not whip them into a frenzy. - Emergencies often exist solely in the minds of people with agendas.

hey cody, katie, and the team, thank y'all for all your hard work. as a man who was born an intersex baby, for some reason the doctors told my parents they needed to make a decision for me. they circed me up, did 'cosmetic' surgeries, and put me on hormones when i was 10. it absolutely FUCKED UP my biology and led to a fuckton of complications. unfortunately this isnt uncommon. plenty of intersex people in america have experimental treatments forced on them when they are children. and it wasnt like anything was broken and needed fixing (that is a very rare instance and not the case with the vast majority). they just wanted me to 'look' and 'develop' 'normally.' when i was 12 i told them 'i am a boy' and i didn't want to be forced to be something that wasn't me. you'd think that because they'd be forcing me into one binary, that once i was able to verbalize that decision myself: they'd let me. nope. as a minor i was never allowed to receive gender affirming care FOR ME only ever for OTHER PEOPLE who determined what i should receive FOR me. even though puberty blockers and testosterone would have improved the complications i was experiencing. slowly but surely intersex rights in this country are expanding, with younger doctors a little less likely to suggest mutilating the genitals of people's newborn babies, and the take-downs of like 2 intersex clinics. we still have a long way to go, but i only wish that more people recognized intersex people are common, and this whole stupid idea of only 'man or woman' doesn't even biologically exist. you can feel and identify whatever way makes it most comfortable for you to live. and i fully recognize the gop and far right goons don't want LGBTQIA+ people to live, which even though we've never had it good or easy has made our present day circumstances so much more volatile and dangerous.

great point, this really underlines how much this is not about protecting anyone but rather about controlling people’s bodies to make them fit into artificial binary categories. I’m sorry you went through this, they made a choice for you they had no right to make. I’m glad you can live your life as you are now. this kind of unnecessary harmful operations should be what people are outraged about. it’s very good to hear that doctors are less inclined to operate on the genitals of infants, the fact that it’s happening at all is insane. you’re probably aware of the recent panic about trans female athletes that have lead certain organizations to set limits on the natural testosterone level allowed in female athletes that has affected cis intersex women. it’s technically collateral damage from transphobia, but tbh I think that even if intersex women weren’t the target the ones who shot downtown cared that they were in the crossfire. when organisations changed the meaning of woman they took away their womanhood and it’s awful. there really is no true gender equality without kicking the sex and the gender binary. screw 6th grade biology, human bodies are incredibly complex and it’s good actually.

Thank you for this. As a trans person, one thing I wish was more widely explained is why it might be appropriate to give a trans minor top surgery. For a not insignificant number of trans teenagers, the dysphoria that they feel regarding their breasts is so extremely that they harm themselves permanently and profoundly by binding their breasts. Binding is something that is only medically safe to do for about eight hours a day five days a week. Some transmasculine teenagers feel so much horror and suicidality at their own breasts, that they bind themselves so tightly and for so long that they do permanent and serious harm to their bodies. I know someone who did this as a teen and who still suffers on-going pain and a limited lung capacity in their 30's because their rib cage was not able to form properly because of binding as a teen. This isn't going to be most people, but it probably is going to be a few thousand people a year (though it would be less if they could freely access puberty blockers and not grow breasts to begin with). These will be older teens, and the decision will be made with the teen, the parents, and the doctor. Surgery of this sort is a last resort and should be made by the people involved who are aware of the medicine and the individual circumstances and not by politicians with an agenda to hurt people.

Don't worry too much, if you do any actual research into the matter the common belief there's this wildly high murder rate related to identity is actually extremely false. People will often get pretty upset when they hear that, and immediately want to slur you as some right wing liar, but seriously, I just implore you to do your own research - I was cleared up on this at first by someone who was in fact trans themselves. The vast, vast majority of murders involving transitioning victims have absolutely nothing at all to do with identity. If someone is say, shot in a robbery or similar, it gets added to the tally like they were killed because of who they were, not because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's really unfortunate. To elaborate, I'm not saying it never happens. But I am saying that much like at the height of COVID where they would frequently label someone as "dying of COVID" even if they had a heart attack, were already dying of cancer, etc. and happened to have COVID, inflating the numbers, I suspect by people trying to bring attention to an issue through a "white lie." Again finally, please don't take my word for it. The usual response to trying to clarify this is hostility because it's such an often repeated fact. @jaesynn2015
@jaesynn2015 Жыл бұрын
@@itsskipilidee5562 That was the concern, and it's unfounded. In an interview that is very easy to google, it's stated that body doubles are used for sexual scenes, and the dance sequences are composite shots - not all filmed at once. You could just make an animated film with all adult voice actors, but that kind of defeats the point of the film. Discussing children's sexuality is complex and nuanced, and I feel these discussions often devolve into "they're too young to know what's good for them. Protect the children." This, I think, removes a child's agency and treats them like unintelligent beings incapable of understanding. Cutting the children out of a story about their experiences with hyper-sexualization in the media is like saying "we know this happens, but we refuse to engage you - the child - in any discussion about it." Again, it's complicated. But kids deserve to be involved in their own stories. And it sounds like this production did what it could to keep the actors informed, comfortable, and safe.

@Jaesynn so while I do think you make some valid points, it doesn't stop from feeling like a having your cake and eating it too type of deal. Like yes, let's talk about how fucked up child pagents are, yes let's have the children who are affected by this talk about it if they're comfortable doing so, but, even if it was with body doubles, did we need to have sequences of hyper sexualization of what the audience are supposed to believe are children on screen? Even if they are composite shots, aren't the dancing scenes literally doing the thing the movie is supposed to be condemning? Like you can make the argument that doing that is supposed to make the viewer uncomfortable in order to spur action, but it's far more likely that the reaction will be what actually happened, especially when there's a good chance that the very people you're condemning are getting off on the movie you're making. You don't have to have on screen vivid depictions of rape to get across that it's bad, ya feel?

The thing with "what is a woman" is, that what woman is a term, that reflects more of a lived reality, rather than a distinct thing. You can ask the very same question with a whole lot of mundane things and find out, that it's actually kind of difficult to answer that. "What is a country" might be such a question, or "What is love" or something like "What is a house"?You can of course answer, that a house is something, which i made for human inhabitation. But then again, there are houses, that are not used for that. And some people don't live in houses, many nomadic people still live in tents. But a tent is not a house. Is a house a structure, that provides indoor space, a roof over your head? Well, is a cave a house then? Is it a man made permanent structure that provides indoor space? Is a factory hall a house then? There are clearly many structures that you can still include into whatever definition, that you might come up with, that we would not consider to be houses. But of course, with a house you can still argue with its purpose, but with things that just are, without any specific purpose, it can get quite hard to find a perfect definition

I never heard the story outside the context of "here's something everyone gets wrong" so I was never exposed to the media narrative from the time it happened. That said, I find the American habit of shifting responsibility away from the individual rather annoying. I feel for the old lady, but when I make coffee, it consists mostly of water that was boiling just a moment ago and thus would be just as dangerous as the one she spilled on that faithful day. Water, by definition, can't exists beyond its boiling point at which it turns into steam. In fact, in my native language we say "I _boil_ coffee" as opposed to "I _make_ coffee", further emphasizing that boiling water is indeed part of making coffee. So as far as I'm concerned, the notion that coffee can be "too hot" is silly. Fresh coffee should _always_ be treated as inherently dangerous, period. Burning yourself with it is like crashing your car because you were texting - you don't "deserve" serious injuries for a momentary lack of attention but it was still your fault. And to be perfectly clear: the way the media portrayed that particular case was vile and wrong but ultimately irrelevant to the incident itself. If your culture somehow came to the agreement that fresh coffee isn't inherently dangerous, then fair enough... I guess? But stories like that are the reason why America gets made fun of: instead of teaching alertness and responsibility in the face of potential danger, you rely on warning labels and expect corporations and the government to treat you like toddlers.

The origin of the 'litterbox' rumor is so much more awful, because the root of it is that some US high schools, including the sadly infamous Columbine HS, have buckets with cat litter in them that they keep around in case of active shooter situations. It is there in case they are in a lockdown scenario and a person needs to use the bathroom but cannot safely go use the facility, and so there is a bucket for that purpose. That's it. A precaution against the out of control gun violence in this country got picked up by the right and weaponized against the trans community
