I really enjoy this record! I love its diversity. In my eyes, this album is just as good as everything else they've done, it's just a very experimental album from time to time. This video was awesome, by the way.

I love it when bands do what they want to do regardless of anyone else´s expectations....they can thank the audience all they want, but music is about what you feel, if that album felt right at the moment, then they stayed true to their driving passion. I loved Morbid Angel since day one and 'Illud Divinum Insanus' turned out to be one of my favorites to this day

I actually like this album, and I really don't blame them for making something that a lot of fans and former fans really hate. In fact, it's the FIRST Morbid Angel album I've bought, so it's going to have a particular place in my growing metal collection. I have a taste in many genres of music outside of metal, so that's one reason why. I respect your opinion on it, and kudos for saying that Morbid Angel is still great even with the notoriety of their newest venture. Great going, man.

Infidel if you only got those albums I strongly suggest you check out Covenant by Morbid Angel, in my opinion one of the best metal albums period. Top 5 for me. Formulas fatal to the flesh is another good one, some of the craziest fasting drumming ever. Goin to see them live this month. Their new stuff is ehh for me but I don't hate it

Edd, you haven't heard Covenant (1993)? I would definitely recommend that from Morbid Angel. It's one of my favourite DM albums. I agree with your thoughts. They got a pretty good reception at Wacken this year, even with the new songs, it seemed. I was in the pit though, so I guess it would be crazy there either way. I found it hard to get excited for the new stuff, but I still enjoyed that show.

@AskeGuitar I am not so 'internet technical' but I just listened to the songs on youtube itself, so I didn't rip them to my pc. But I always check for good music around on youtube and with that I decide if I am going to look for the cd. I recently added a song of thrash band "Havok" to my favourites and after that one song I knew I wanted the album. But I think I will share my thoughts in a video about this once..

I have just come across this review. It seems that for the first time somebody just articulated everything that was on my mind. Actually, there are several bands that impressed me that much to buy their entire discography. MA is one of them. It is 2022 and Ilud divinum insanus CD just arrived to my hands. I cannot say I like it, but cannot say I hate it neither. I just tolerate it. But wanting to express my appreciation to their earlier albums, I bought this one as well. For me A is monumental, B, C, D are phenomenal, H is very good, G, F fantastic, I and K are just acceptable. But the legend lives on! And sub is going to you for the wise thoughtful review :)

@TheMyRogil It's an ok album but to me it's not as impressive as their previous work. I do like Machine Head a lot..I have a bunch of albums..but the new one..just misses the previous spark. Hard to explain, but it sounds a bit now as of they don't mean it. Check the words "Hear me now!"..from ..ashes of empires. Sounds like he's tearing something apart. That spark is what I am missing in the voice as well in the music.

I really appreciated your discussion.you look old school enough for giving a comment on the actual metal scene.the direction is taking and drammatic lack of new band and new ideas deserving the same respect that Morbid Angel and many others of that epic time deserved. last year went to see Atheist reunion.they still incredibly rock after 15 years or more!!! at the same time i saw a whole club standing on their feet.i think the attitude in the kids changed.that's why the music offer changed too?

Definitely the type of review I would do; that said, a review should be more focused on the item being reviewed. We learned about your thoughts on respecting bands that take a left turn, but there wasn't much discussion of the album itself considering the video is over 10 minutes long. Keep working on this, you've got good thoughts! Good call on mentioning the subject of the next review, keeps us anticipating!

MAN I WAS WAITING FOR THIS! I know you're not into lists, but my OCD really wants you to make countdowns of some sort, it would get a lot of people interested and you could do it in parts like 20 albums/artists/songs per video and make 5 videos for a top 100 list. It could be like most influential albums, most personally important, best tracks, best of the 90s, uderrated, whatever...Just an idea, and I just love it when you talk about the classic stuff.

I don't know if you are going to see my comment but the only thing I really want to say is that I actually like ILLUD DIVINUM INSANUS. I like when bands are not afraid of experiment new sounds depite the critics of their fans and that they enjoy what they are doing. And as Shagrath also say: you cannot do always the same thing as a musician, you have to evolve every single album. One of my favorites songs is "Too extreme" because it was wanderful for me listen to david sing in spanish at least a little bit. I am a spanish speaker, I am mexican and I know perfectly that david feels special affection for latin american people and it is one of the greatest thing.

Yeah this album was a let down. Probably my biggest let down was back in '88 (when I was still in the Army---stationed at Ft. Gordon, Georgia) was when the new Death Angel (frolic in the park) came out. That was a real bummer. Because I loved the Ultra-violence. I lost interest in them after that. Oh well, hopefully the next Morbid Angel will be better. Maybe this was their Cold Lake.

In the video you mentioned you streamed some of the album on youtube. Technically its downloading the album (temporarily but gets deleted), but downloading the album (from some file sharing site) you're against.. This makes sense but I would like to see a video where you further clarify your stance on music sharing. Personally I like the sharing aspect, but not the idea of stopping buying cds/vinyl. You commented on my Jungle Rot vid, so I assume your now a fan, which is a positive to sharing.

Good review although I disagree with you on Illud Divinum as it is a fantastic album. After three really boring albums they made something that really sounds fresh and you can hear from it they really enjoyed making it. Not a single MA album has been playing on my player as much as Illud has. Second on my playtime list is Blessed are the sick and after that Dominate and Covenant, then Altars. I actually sold F, G and H albums as I didn't like listening to 'em. Anyways much obliged \,,/

Can we agree on at least one thing? They have cranked out good albums for years. They had to have known this album would not be well received. They had the balls to put it out anyway knowing that. Like or dislike, it’s part of their legacy now. The analogy he made about the good friend making a bad choice. You don’t discard them as a person because they did one thing you disagreed with.

As for the new Morbid Angel, I haven't heard it yet, because I have neither the time nor the money (both are really tight right now). Mike Portnoy said that Metallica's 'St. Anger' showed potential for being a return to longer, heavier songs despite its production, so there's always hope! I am glad Morbid Angel released this record, these guys don't need to conform to anything, be it their glorious near perfect discography or anything that purists wouldn't accept if not anything like the older material. Bands need to experiment after a few albums even if it's a failure. Celtic Frost released "Cold Lake" which people find funny for musicians of great calibre but it's a part of their choice career and should be respected.

I really think you are right, in every aspect. I was disappointed too when I heard the most "industrial-oriented" songs (they are not my stuff) and when I head the more DM-oriented ones (IMO me ripped off from Covenant stuff with a bad production and nothing to say) Actually I saw them live last year and they are masters on stage. After the show few fans and me were talking w/ Dave Vincent, he told the new record was a new challenge for him. Maybe he failed, but he is still in the music IMO.

I'm pretty well with you guys. A couple of the songs on there weren't vomit razor blades bad, but comparing it to the Morbid Angel I like, Covenant, Blessed are the Sick it is pretty disappointing. I was psyched for it for a few months. Thankfully Cannibal Corpse didn't disappoint.

I agree completely with you Ed. I am in fact a big Morbid Angel fan and when this album came out, I felt as though it was just a hiccup in their career. Every band has it's failure and it looks like after what, 7 albums that they finally put out an album that was actively bad?
