Spikes are best build on top of ladders and behind doors. There they are way harder to destroy and can completely halt the enemies' advance. I like to carry a bear trap in addition. It´s funny how often people run through chokepoints into the bear trap, or try to sneak up on my crossbow... Walls are often very good around your crossbow so that you can shoot it far longer.

My best Builder Loadout : Brawler, Wrecker, Fireproof, Supplied, Pavise, Toolbox, Beartrap, Mule(for a second Toolbox/Pavise/Beartrap), lvl1 Head, Naked Upper, lvl1 Lower. Walls instead of Spikes! You destroy and Rebuild, instead of repairing. If a Teammate can read wishes, you will be much faster as a Builder. Pavise enhances your Structures by alot, can be held and equiped by Players to Shield against Projectiles and to close little dents in your Defense, until you refill your ammo, Beartraps will buy you Time for preparing Balistic+Upgrades. The Time you will need for preparing your whole Set of defenses, will be the exact same Time for "Supplied" to reopen the Chest. You wont be exposed to attacks while repairing /no repairing & you will be much more Ready for Combat as a Brawler. + Building works automatically and Reapairing takes much of your Time and is taking way too much Attention from you. You wont need to waste Points on the Repair-Perk & Wooden Mallet/Blacksmith Hammer/1HandHeavyAxe/Poleaxe. With Mule you can Grab a Weapon for speeding up the wrecking on Structures. I throw away the Weapon after that, so i will stick to Brawling and keep the Slot free until i find a Pavise/Toolbox/Beartrap With Wrecker you can correct mistakes of other Builders faster (this screws up your Working Schedule for sure) & and you can help destroying Enemy Defenses. And Ontop of everything, you can deliver everything to Nobles around the Clock. Which is good, because Nobles enhance all of your Items and do have a good use for your Pavise on their back. A Second Builder would be a Repairer building the Spikes at best. (Which is mostly the case) Second Toolbox + Poleaxe would be Perfect.

It can work, but it requires good timing. You best build spikes in a choke point. BTW: the best place without smoke is on top of ladders or behind closed doors. Also, poking through stairs can work like a bear trap.

you can also block doors with spikes, and they can push you through walls

I originally bought mordhau thinking I would love the melee combat (I mean, I do) - but I fell in love with engineer quick. Great guide dude you really improved my build....... it's just a shame I can't use friendly perk with this :(

i really liked your video and it helped me a lot when i watched it 10 months ago but i stoppped playing mordhau due to my pc being broken and now i started palying again! tho the loadouts i made back then still work but the toolbox constructs got a few changes (smaller wall,less dangerous spikes, firearrrow pit) and now im honestly very confused how i should work with these new constructs , i wanted to ask if it whould be possible dor you to remake this guide with the current changes since this guide now is outdated but was very informative and well made.

I´d like to warn you of building crossbows. Yes, they are fun and get you quite some points, but in half of my games, I have at least one guy on my team that attacks me! a) he firebombs me and it, because he fears that I shoot over his back, when he advances b) he kicks me and takes over the crossbow so that he can score points, if I resist, he´ll kill me (as an engineer, you´ll be less good in 1v1) I also had idiots throwing smoke in front of it, or building me in with walls for the LOLs...

For the anti fire version, what about picking the fireproof perk instead of lvl 1 leg?

I don't think that the fireproof perk will change the damage that your structures receive and you can extinguish the fire with your smokebombs most of the time so I would not recommend taking the fireproof perk in most cases. I'd only recommend it if you find yourself repairing structures while standing in fire frequently for example if there are too many people throwing fire bombs so that you can't extinguish enough of the fire and you try to repair structures while they are still on fire.
