@@MordianGloryCool! 👍 I would like to hear an opinion of comparing Finns in official Konflikt release and the ”Alternate rules setting” of them found in Warlordgames archives. 😅 Personally like more of the alternate rules setting’s world build on Finns.

i would agree with this, as you can go backwards with the rules. you also gain order dice, markers, unique units you will want/need anyways and unlike gws you can make almost/all variants of units/vehicles. now if you are starting with a friend/group then choosing the starter box matching your preferred theatre is 2nd.

Yeah. I bought the K47 German starter + Band of Brothers and have been playing both. Just added a couple of tanks and haven't looked back.
@Guts3570

and whichever one you start with, never glue your tank turrets down. a lot of the tanks can be swapped between the bolt action variant and the konflikt 47 variant just by swapping the turret. they also sell the turrets separately.

If you are lucky and start this game with another person, I would recommend getting the starter box (Band of Brothers, Gentleman's War or Pacific Assault) twice. This gives everyone a good number of pin markers, dice, the rulebook, and enough models for a fun game experience. The markers and dice are not cheap. This combo can easily be upgraded by another box of infantry or even a tank and you are done. One thing worth noting is: Warlord Games will not call you a heretic if you join an official tournament with third party of even 3D printed models.

Another great thing about the Gentleman’s War starter set is that if you buy a second one after you decide you like it, you can build both armored cars as a different variant and the extra infantry won’t hurt either. You’ll also end up with 12 order dice for each side, which is the same as buying order dice separately. Lastly, the uniforms of the DAK and 8th Army models are “correct” for the Italian campaign too, so you’re not locked in to just North Africa. The Germans can even be painted in field gray instead of tan and they’ll look good for any theater including North Africa where many reinforcements in the Tunisian campaign were flown in wearing gray uniforms. It’s really a great starter set.

When I got started I was looking at the Afrika Korps Starter Army, but decided against it knowing I would be replacing the panzer III and flak gun with Rubicon models. So I just went with a box of infantry instead.

when i introduce new players to a game i always suggest get the rule book and either their favorite model or a starter set depending on what they can get
@Centaur255

Wholeheartedly agree - the box sets and starter sets are both great value, but also a low threshold compared to other games. I play Lord of the Rings, and even their starter armies don't have everything you need to jump into a game - by the time you get the models you need, you've spent far more than you will with Bolt Action. And if you're looking for a more niche early war faction, starter armies can also get you pretty close; you can pretty easily make an early war German starter army into a Hungarian or Bulgarian force thanks to similar uniforms, and early war British uniforms look surprisingly close to some of their continental allies (assuming you do berets and not helmets, as a lot of those used the French helmets)

While I haven't actually played a game yet, I did take the plunge and acquired a band of brothers set (mainly to have the rulebook and 2 start up armies). The starter armies are pricey, and are a good choice. But I've been watching used lots on eBay for a while now. And for the price if a starter army, I was able to aquire a large lot used to start building my full army. You can find good bargains out there if you are willing to kitbash and deal with some possible rough equipment. But I was able to round up 75 infantry with 20+ vehicles and armor for about $150 U.S. Just another viable option to put out there. Enjoy and battle on

Great thing about bolt action is you can really start with one infantry box and assembly quite good 500 points veteran force with LMGs and anti tank capacities.

I started with bolt action thanks to your review on the starter boxet "a gentleman's war"... and right after takin a look at your DAK starter army review ... I went thar way ... bought the gentleman's war boxet a my DAK startrwr army box ... now just lookin to get my 8th army boxet and Im ready to go all the way into bolt... though in my wargames community in the only one into bolt... 40k is the dominant game ... still very exited for my bolt action minis... Keep the great work Mordian, greetings from Guatemala

Thanks for a helpful video. Have subscribed. I’m looking at starting Bolt Action Solo. I understand that they are now producing minis without separate weapons and so making assembly much easier. Having tried the separate weapons minis before I have found them a real pain. Can you recommend any factions or sets where separate weapons are no longer being used? I did look at the early Soviet starter set, but this is clearly old stock with the dreaded separate weapons. I understand the Italians are in the new style. I’m going to check out your unboxing videos, but thought it would be worth asking you direct. Cheers Keith

i wish the starter armys were like the konflikt ones. coming with order dice and markers. also the only issue i have with anything warlord starter is that they dont come with a guide to tell you how to build your units to match the theatre the box is for. this is also a blessing as they give you full boxes of the units so old players can get another detachment for a existing army. TLDR, great value in starter boxes for any point of collecting, requires some research when building the models.

I have a couple of different ones and I can say, yes, they're great. Just for reference, I have ; Blitzkrieg germans, Winter germans, United States (old one), Soviet (old one), German Grenadiers (old one) and the Italian Army one. I also have British commando's, British army '44, German Afrika Korps, French early war (figures from Wargames Atlantic) ,Japanese and British 8th army (also usable for Singapore). These last ones are more tailored to what I like instead of a starter box. According to some, I also seem to have a problem.

All the starter sets tend to be a great deal, espically in comparison to a 40k starter set e.g. combat patrol. Nearly every bolt action starter army contains a full force. If you want to buy more you can, but you dont need to to have a totally decent and playable army.

Looking at starting an 8th army, would all games have to played as North Africa Western Desert or could it be played against late war?
@Centaur255
@Centaur255 10 ай бұрын
You can play against late war - you'll want to rely on pinning enemy heavy tanks and focusing on removing enemy infantry, as your tech will be a bit weaker against those big tanks, but definitely still competitive
@MordianGlory
@MordianGlory 10 ай бұрын
Yeah no issue! Bolt Action doesnt have rules for "8th army infantry". A man with a rifle is a just a man with a rifle. When you get the 8th army models all you are doing is picking a aesthetic. As for playing other eras, Late war brits is more about what tanks you are going to use, but the infantry squad rules essentially stay the same though the Mid to late war. If you got the 8th army starer set and a cromwell or churchill tank you would be sorted.

A max points of 1,250? Every game I've played at the shops or at homes has been 1,500 to 2,000 points. 1,000 to 1,250 seems paltry, but might be appropriate for tournaments where time is a factor.
