Southport is my hometown though I have not lived there since the early nineties. Morrisey wrote Every Day Is Like Sunday about it after a visit one day- the reference to the coastal town they forgot to close down spoke to its decline by the 1980s. I watched the horror unfold from France in the summer. I now live a few miles away and have visited the town a few times recently- it has survived hard times in the past and will pull through the recent traumatic events. People everywhere have more in common than anything that divides them. The division stoked by the hard right must not and will not prevail. Hope not hate. Happy Christmas to all.
