Really enjoy watching your vlogs. It so reminds me of us a year last October when we picked our new boat up! I was the one who did the big bumps though - didn’t help that I was waiting for cataract surgery and the low autumn sun made my vision useless! Bump bump in the bridge holes - what bridge!! Don’t have that excuse any more. It is my better half that goes out for a run and recces the next mooring spot. Take care

Dear Jo and Duncan Jo you really are doing much better at the tiller. If the two of you are not aware of this do keep it in mind. during the colder months make sure that you keep your diesel tank topped up. The larger the air space in the fuel tank the more condensation that occurs due to the warmer air around the tank meeting the cooler air in the tank. The moisture that builds up in the tank helps to promote the growth of "diesel bug". Pouring some Sea Foam into the tank once a month goes a long ways to keeping the moisture and quality of the fuel in check. Have a wonderful and safe cruise. Mark Alberta, Canada
@Narrowboat-photography17 күн бұрын
@@markrant1460 Hiya Mark, thanks for that. I am getting better, then I have a brain burp and it all goes to pot. ☹️ We are aware of the diesel bug and are keeping a close eye on it, never heard of sea foam thought so will keep an eye out. Keep safe Mark 😀
@markrant146017 күн бұрын
Don't worry about the brain burps, I have had them for years and maybe some day as we sit, dangling or feet in the canal, I will share a story about brain burps lol. Sea Foam should be found at many of the chandlers or ordered on Amazon. Have used it for years in both the fuel and oil of my vehicles and other engines. Do ask Uncle Google about it. I suffered badly from the BUG tried many things like tank cleaning, fitting recirculating filter system, cooling the diesel return etc. Then found the solution two new tanks, complete new pipework with tank to tank filters and tank to engine large truck filter. Plus a pair on new engines. Finally bought all my diesel away from waterside refuel stations as I think their tanks were much of the problem. Kept the boat another 3 years, sold it bought a new car that didn't need mooring lines etc.

We've had our wheeled widebeam for almost 3 years. My wife and I both did the Helmsman course (on a wheeled widebeam) and my wife did absolutely fine. However, she never felt comfortable and, inevitably, fell into the routine of doing the locks and bridges. She never drives the boat. We're now selling our boat to buy a narrowboat (just to cruise further). We've made the decision that, no matter what, she'll take her turn driving and stick with it. No doubt you've already improved massively since this video was shot. It only gets easier but everyone still makes mistakes, no matter how experienced they are.
@Narrowboat-photography16 күн бұрын
@@williammontgomery3626 We think it is really important that both can drive the boat. Even though I am totally frustrating Duncan he is the first to tell me to have a go (he bought more paint🙄). @philipthoreau359017 күн бұрын
Jo you are doing much better with helm angles. Try now to use less throttle than more and let the boat run don’t “drive it”. Most problems happen because of too much momentum ie speed when manoeuvring. I see you got to the basin a week or so ago, so you’re probably settled by now. Have fun and keep warm. Happy new year. Jo jumping on a strange boat then having to steer to miss other craft, bridge narrows etc. Is hard even for experienced skippers and I've been with a few. I bought my boat on the upper Thames it came with a mooring on a weir run, so the current changed with the weather, I thought I had the come alongside off pat. Then they opened the sluices ha going astern no bother but the nudge forward against the flow didn't work as before. So keep practicing and but you have to learn to try different methods that suit you. Well done but mind yer tongue, one bonk on the head and it's gone.

@@TheByard I know that I’m not the only one who hits bridges and the side but they don’t show them in their videos. I am trying to figure out when to turn. It is just confidence and practice (and paint)

She won’t steer backwards or out of gear. And please don’t overpower to move. Nice and slow easy doe’s it. Time. Just take your time. Your not parking a car. Slowly as our boats are sometimes moored too. It gets easier honestly. We found gently does it and don’t worry if people watch and comment. Wind also is your worst enemy. Good luck. 🤐 Maybe the first year's licence should be triple to pay for the damage🤔... Selective editing while going into Blackwater Marina........🤣 On your latest video... I will get the fenders out ready for your arrival.... I've been hit that many times one more doesn't matter........🤣 Once you get used to it it's so easy you'll wonder why you couldn't do it straight away.... Try not to use marinas that often especially ABC!!! we need to keep the fuel boats in business... If you're still on your boat in a few years you realise what I mean...... I'm not on the Llangollen but I'm nearby, maybe we will meet... now I know the name of your boat and the canal network is a very, very small place....... Good luck👍👍 and if you ever need to know anything ask a boater.. not somebody who's been on a boat for 6 months. In all seriousness good luck 👍....
@Narrowboat-photography9 күн бұрын
@kevgray. Having just paid the licence fee please don’t triple it! My damage is mostly for the boat 😂😂 Gong into blackwater marina was very tough and took such a long time only to be told I needn’t have bothered they just want you to reverse your bum in 🙄 We have used the fuel boat every time he passed, we booked our spot. We will always use the fuel boats over the marinas but with the weather being so cold lately with a diesel tank, diesel heater and a diesel stove we have used rather a lot of diesel and had to go and top up in the marinas to top up. ☹️Any advise from any boater is always well intended and really well received, please if you do see us on the cut come and say hello. 😀
@narrowboatdays8 күн бұрын
@@Narrowboat-photography You have a diesel heater and a diesel stove and the diesel engine? 😱 And the rather large bank account?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 My friend is in the marina and it cost her £120 in a week in diesel.... (She has since gone back to the multi stove) I know it's a little bit messier and white walls😱... but the old way are still the best... In some respects like.. If it gets really cold the diesel could freeze and you would have nothing or If your diesel gets contaminated again you would have nothing until you can get your diesel cleaned or replaced.. When I bought my boat I was toying with the idea myself and then I asked about a bit and it was too much messing about and too much expense.... this was when diesel was at 69p a litre😱 There's a old ish boat moored up that's been abandoned (It gets moved when they get warned) and it has 4 chimneys (one for the engine) It's also built like a tank it would be a nice boat, and I would jump at the opportunity if I had the chance again. They don't make them like they used to. My boat by the way as the same front design with the window and the bed... I've just been watching your video of the build.. quite interesting to see how much insulation they're sprayed, it's never enough I would rather be too warm in the summer than too cold in the winter. I would make it a priority to have the best insulation at the best depth. I would even give up a little bit of space to have more.. and double or triple glazed windows..., by tinting the windows instead of having them made smoked..they can be taken off and it's a different boat all together...... It also gives the next owner the opportunity to have clear or darkened.. I noticed you actually went on a course on the Leeds Liverpool very nice place especially Blackburn and Burnley... Did it sink in or was it too much information? I purchased my boat in Cheshire from there I went into Manchester from there I went up the Rochdale 9 up the Ashton Canal back down the Ashton Canal onto the Rochdale then Aire & Calder Canal on to the Huddersfield Narrows through Standage Tunnel and back home to Cheshire that was my baptism of fire I learnt on the way.... Everybody's different, if there's only one of you you have to deal with everything if there's two of you, it's half the worry, but double the fun.... I have replied with my NB channel, I don't talk , I don't do it for money or attention even though people do like my photographs (I see it as an archive and somewhere to store my photographs) that's why I mention it because I've been looking at some of the photographs you've taken👍 You certainly will have a awesome picture/video collection the amount of wildlife about is amazing and the sun rises and the sunsets you also get to know some of the geese and the swans and the ducks until you have to move on...... 😡... The tilting solar panels are the best if you're going to live on your boat full time you can go from 70 Watts lead flat to 250w+ when tilted.... (I'm not having a dig) I didn't get my panels fitted until the winter of the first year after doing a lot of research..... I got Ripped off by the way, but that's to be expected after all you know what "boat" stands for? Everything can't be perfect.. Right.... that's my novel complete I'm running out of link🤣 check out some of my photographs/vids on my channel👍 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
