That's downright clever. Seems like in another video you showed how to fold a tarp back under so it had a floor. Maybe if the end tarps were a bit bigger you could do that?
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival5 жыл бұрын
Yes the end tarps do have a bit of folded over tarp inside but not enough to cover the entire floor. It would probably be easiest just to bring an extra ground cloth of some sort to place on the floor.

Great looking camp Lonnie. What type of tarps are those? They look like thin, light nylon almost like a parachute. Where do you get them and were they expensive? Great looking country! I love those mountains!
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival5 жыл бұрын
The two end tarps are 8 X 10 foot nylon and the middle green tarp is a 12 X 12 foot nylon. I think I got them all at a physical store called "Sportsmans Warehouse" many years ago. I also used to order occasionally from an outdoor products catalog store called Campmor. Campmor is online at it's name plus dot com. They have a good selection of nylon tarps including these sizes last I looked but I have not ordered from them for many many years so can not recommend one way or another as to their current quality of products or service.

I would like to see a video explaining how to set up a tarp tent that will prevent rain from flowing underneath it, or do you have that video already? Thanks again for your good videos and time.
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival5 жыл бұрын
We virtually never worry about those issues here since it rarely rains hard enough or long enough to cause a problem. However for those who are in areas that experience severe rainfall at times, folks often will trench around their shelter to redirect runoff water away from the shelter.

@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival Жыл бұрын
The knot is called the Farrimond Hitch. It is a knot that I really like. However, it is just like they say about exercise. "use it or lose it." I had to go back and watch the video in the link below myself since I could neither remember the name or how to tie the knot. You could have a companion video and show folks how you carved out your uprights. I could see the work you put into the top of it. Also, how to tie that slip knot. We at the power company used to call that a monkeys fist, though I know there is a different monkeys fist...
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival5 жыл бұрын
The adjustable knot is called the Farrimond Hitch and is taught in my video at the link below. The upright poles were just narrowed up at the top for the last inch or so, so that the end would slip into the grommet. Three VERY Useful Backwoods Knots kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWmrenmVor56l5I

Howdy, Matthew Hammer here. Could use something short for medical care/burns. Got in a bad propane leak explosion. My beard and hair saved my head from flash. In bad shape. Straight aloe vera works best but what if I were at elk camp a day from help?
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival5 жыл бұрын
Spruce pitch is wonderful for reducing pain and using on burns. Yes it can be messy but I personally would rather look a mess but be actively protecting my health in a case like that. Also the inner pith of fireweed (Chamaenerion angustifolium) is known as a traditional healer and treatment for burns. It is interesting that one of the first to grow and most prolific plants to repopulate a burned off area is fireweed which is also a traditional herb used for treating burns. Willow bark made into a decoction to drink or willow leaves can be chewed to also help alleviate pain in the same way that aspirin is used. Indeed aspirin was originally made from willow bark.

Hello Terry. Below are several of my videos you may enjoy watching. There are quite a few essential oils that are repellent in nature and can be quite effective though they require frequent re-application. Citronella, cedarwood and lemongrass are just a few that come to mind. One can mix the essential oils with alcohol, water or even witch hazel.
