For anyone curious, live police chase coverage was a Southern California pastime since the late 80's, but state and local law enforcement felt that the coverage and massive public interest was encouraging people to lead the police on these chances. For a number of years the local news outlets agreed to stop doing live chase coverage, but eventually they started doing it again to boost ratings.

As for the gay bar accident: The officer that arrested the bar owner wasn't even one of the officers that had been in the car. He showed up separately after the accident and cranked the situation up to 11 for no reason and arrested the bar owner. Wasn't even the CAR DRIVERS. Figure THAT ONE OUT. Dude's fired/resigned now, too, by the way, and he had MULTIPLE lawsuits against him during his 16 year tenure with the police force there, too.

Update for the gay bar/Bar: PM the couple who own the bar thankfully got the resisting arrest charge, the arresting officer resigned and was served for the damages, but unfortunately the couple is still fighting a misdemeanor assult charge because 'he hit the officer'
